Truly can’t believe how much this little album has changed our lives. In honor of 25 years, we are thrilled to announce TWO new releases out on October 18th -
The first, is LP1 reimagined by 10 different artists, of whom we are great admirers.
The second, is LP1 completely remastered from the original DAT tapes (which we actually found only a few months ago after searching for them for over a decade…) pressed on a double LP with an entirely new packaging.

I used to think 1:35 - 2:15 was way too needlessly long and repetitive, but it hit me why this is arguably the most meaningful part of the whole song. Eventually, YOU begin to zone out from the song and reminisce about your life. You get lost in your own daydream of heartache/what could have been. It suddenly becomes your story

+Spencer L They've influenced a lot of bands, in particular in the emo scene. You can hear elements of them throughout modern rock which is part of why. Because even if you don't listen to bands like Brand New and Far you probably have heard people influenced by them hence why they have that familiarity.
To me, this song represents the raw emotion of a relationship that was never meant to last. Two souls with pure intentions fall in love, but they are too young and naive to keep their promises, which leads to the relationship's demise. They say their goodbyes, embarking on separate life journeys never to meet again.

I was there for hers. We worked on our cars together. we sat on the carpet and played video games until it was time to see the sun setting. We cooked together. We had a love that means more than two people "in love", we just innately had love. And that will never fade. This week has been rough, and all our friends are here for us. she stopped by last night to pick up some of her things. if feels like she never left. We both feel like that. I instinctively held her hands in front of me, pulled her in, and put my chin on her head. But I wasn't happy. for years. We tried so hard, constantly patching holes in this half- sunken ship.

We were together for six years and midway through it we always had some conversations about "how long it will go? and why do we have this kind of doubt", in the end the finish was the best for both sides. We kept in touch and we're clearly better now. Not gonna lie, the friendship we had does not exist anymore, but we care about each other and there's no hard feelings between the two of us. Just like the song states, some things were never meant and I guess we were never meant (even though we tried hard to make it happen).

I find interesting to compare the thoughts people have about youth and teenagers nowadays to this. For me, being young isn't about living fast, being drunk every weekend and having sex with everything that moves. For me being young is about falling in love, being heartbroken, living adventures with your friends, thinking your life choices, having a shitty job so you can afford a t-shirt from your favorite band. Being young is like suffering with your friends and enjoying every second of it, because at the end of the day you realize that you can only be young once
I agree man. I may have gotten drunk most weekends, among other things, but i never felt thats what it was all about. I hiked and did all kinds of shit too, this song kinda grounds you in that way. This song is timeless. It's relatable but not because of being cliche. It's sincerity is evident. It makes me nostalgic for a depressing time (which is kind of the opposite of what nostalgia is).
I always think of the moments right before I met the person I dated. I think of my life and how I was. Then the first moments of meeting and getting to know them. (All portrayed here). I barely knew anything about them. But there was this unwavering hope. That person becomes why you get up in the morning. And then I think about whatever that person is to me now. Luigis Blood yeah there’s a very specific mood and a lot of imagery in this video that i don’t think translates as well elsewhere. it’s a specific season after the harvest but before it gets too cold. those shots of the corn field mean so many different things at once. it’s not just young love fading. it’s that feeling that nothing was ever really alive, or dead. just sleeping. like you.
It’s not just that it’s fall, they’ve got that everywhere, it’s a dozen other things. A bunch of cultural shorthand I haven’t heard from people in small towns elsewhere. You get a bit of it in like rural PA and upstate NY but it’s not the same.

I always found the instrumental on this oddly hypnotizing, maybe it’s the swinging between time or the way the strumming and the drumming kinda combat each other. But I think that’s one of the key factors that make this band so good
It reminds me a little of the ending to God Only Knows. These pretty, intertwining melodic lines that play off one another, and a fascinating time signature that you can't quite put your finger on. It just draws you in deeper and deeper.

I've loved the album for a second now, and I like the fact that the video's concept is simple and understated. There are plenty of artsy-fartsy music videos out there to go around. To me, the beauty of American Football's music is its intrinsic adolescence; and I appreciate the fact that 20 years later, as grown men, they didn't try to turn it into something it wasn't.

The beauty in this track is the simple complexity. It's a simple song about the feelings of love, but complex in meanings. Love can come to us with different results. One of the best break-up songs to this day. The lyrics, the music, the video...if you've ever had your heart broken, I really feel like you can relate to this song.
The fact that this video answers questions that people have been asking for 14 years to themselves as they stared blankly through their squinted tears at the album art as they listened to this song over their soft whimpering exhales is just... I can't even explain it.
The best break up song ever finally has a music video. They should make for the rest of the songs on the album as well, specially "Stay Home" and "For Sure"

This album was the soundtrack of my divorce. "Never Meant" is definitely their masterpiece and it's nice to see it get a video with the deluxe edition release. Though my favorite AF song is "The Summer Ends" and I would love to see that get a video!

The house featured in this video and its LP1 cover went up for sale. Plans were to demolish and build apartments.
However...the band American Football itself bought it as of May-ish 2023. No word on if they're going to rework and remodel this beautiful dilapidated house, but I imagine they'll do something amazing with it. They intend to keep the outside looking the same.

You know, I honestly think this is the best song of all time. Most people would say Bohemian Rhapsody or A Day In The Life but I say it is this. This is music in its purest form, sending a message so deeply painful, with lyrics that perfectly capture the human nature, the love, and the eventual end of it. Not to mention, the instrumental is magnificent, exploding as Kinsella softly says "I just think it's best/'Cause you can't miss what you forget". It is so crushingly sincere, emotional and relatable, encapsulating in a little over 4 minutes the most important thing in this world: love.
This song will always have a soft place in my heart and it stands as a timeless classic.

I got into American Football right before the start of my senior year of high school. I ended up listening to them during that whole year and throughout college; I even visited the house on the cover a few times since I attended UIUC. I know it's kind of dramatic to say, but I don't know what my life would have been like without these tracks. There's something about them that just clicked so well with that period in my life that it's now impossible for me to go back and separate the music from my memories and emotions of the time.
This video shows in the best way possible the love story, the feelings and the memories that this song has always carried with it
