How is a sworn private company any different than a police lot? More likely the guys for profit will have MORE attention to the lot and they’re sworn to store the car under penalty too
@@davidh8228 Many years ago, i worked for a company who had a Mobile Exhibition Unit, basically a modified 22 foot caravan with drop sides towed by a hired Land Rover Discovery. We used to store it, because we were owned by the County Council, in the covered bay at the County Police Head Quarters where they also kept various other Police Vehicles. even then, on weekend someone stole the ladders off the top of it and the spare tyre
The problem here is that they used to do just that, but the cars would regularly turn up again and again and again involved in different crimes with different owners. And a lot of people in Britain seem to like driving without proper registration, license and insurance on the vehicles, and they found it much cheaper to not pay for any of that and, if caught and the vehicle seized, then they'd just go to the police auction and pick up another car on the dirt cheap. Maybe even the car they originally lost. So rather than go through this endless cycle forever, now its either be registered, licensed and insured properly, or else find your card heading for the scrap yard so the cops no longer see the same vehicles involved in multiple different crimes over the years.
In the United States, used car parts and restoring cars is big business. Seems pretty stupid that they just crush cars. I go to a "pull a part" junkyard and when I need a part, I can go to a place and get a working windshield wiper motor or a fender or door in the exact color of my car or engine part or even something as silly as a set of fuses. The yard gets their money, I pay 10% what a new part cost and when the cars finally are crushed, they have no seats, no doors and many less parts that are now being well used keeping other cars on the road. I suppose this it the stupidity seen all over England like their recycling business where the yards get paid by the government and they literally ship the un-recycled plastic to India.
The scrap yards where I live in Ontario, Canada, we do the same thing. Vehicles are stripped of any usable parts, which are sold. Any thing left over will be crushed. We have a huge steel plant that they go to, so that everything is recycled ♽. I hope you have a great day Jack.🙂⚘️.
Usefull parts are stripped out, the rest gets crushed. The benefit of crushing is in easier to transport to recycling facility instead of taking up space in a junkyard or impound. Also reduces/prevents a chance of people creating cars with fake VINs,... Also in most of the Europe, cars are subjected to anual roadworthiness and safety checks. There are rare cases when using used parts makes financial sense, and even less cases where using used parts is safe (old tires with still legal amount of tread). So unlike the USA, where you can drive an unsafe/dangerous and unroadworthy vehicles, that is much harder in European countries.
Also in the US, if the car is still intact and operable, the impound company can legally sell it at auction to used car dealers who can then resell it. It seems such a waste go crush a perfectly good vehicle.
The U.K is Small. It can fit inside 11 separate U.S. States. The cost to create an after sale policy, procedure, market ECT... Is not cost effective in a smaller country. Also vehicle prices are already much less there than in the U.S.
Many of these very old cars are unroadworthy, so the authorities do not want the cars to be returned to the roads anyway. As stated by the scrapper, the commercially valuable parts are recovered for resale. The rest of the car is of little value and is scrapped. British car registration rules require annual mechanical safety inspections, so what would pass muster in many parts of America would instantly fail in the UK. The British have higher standards.

That is by design. I don't know about there, but here in the U.S. they did this whole "cash for clunkers" campaign where they would buy you junk old car for more than it was worth. It was all a scheme to get older affordable cars off the road and force people to take on payments for newer cars in order to "revitalize" the auto industry. Now they build garbage cars to ensure that by the time you have it paid off, you will buy a new one. Along with making it harder to repair anything on your own.
I don't wonder their economy is suffering. To distroy anything that jas value is wasteful in the extreme. Then they talk about high sheriffs of the Court running into people who simply CAN'T pay their debt...is it for lack of a car?? I hate the way people deem those that can't afford to pay vehicle tax or have insurance dangerous drivers, If anything most are more cautious drivers as they don't want to draw attention to their situation and try to avoid being pulled over, Alot of that problem is caused by our Politicians having such high of fees just to use your vehicle, Maybe if registration (what we call vehicle tax in my Country) wasn't so expensive more could afford to pay it and wouldn't try skipping it. See this is how the system is, They hit you were it hurts most and you can't do anything about it but blindly comply or you loose your vehicle..Next they'll be trying to tax you just for walking or biking, even might try to charge a tax on the air we breathe, Oh they think up some BS reasoning behind it you can bet they'll try it, It's all a money game with them. Everything in life DON'T have to be taxed and Government don't need a cut in on everything.
In my experience, an awfully high percentage of traffic crashes involve some variety of vad registration/license/insurance. So much that it doesn't suggest they are more careful drivers, but that there's a reason for the lack of meeting legal requirements.

@@nancyaguirre2307so you hold the belief that government should steal your property because you didn't purchase the pieces of paper that they require you to purchase from them? Seems a bit odd, no? If I start a racket that requires you to pay me to ensure that you are safe to walk in public, then you fail to pay walking fee, I can come steal your footwear for the sake of public safety? 14 days, and I'll sell them to the highest bidder. All for public safety ofcourse. Just remember, if you pat me, you will be safe, and if you don't I will take everything you own, for the sake of safety. Get the picture yet?
@@arnold8746"pieces of paper" like a driving licence and car insurance?
Get a life.
Canadian here. I completely agree. Had a truck stolen. Cost $500 to re vin, new plates and cops called us on a Friday saying it was at the pound, went to go pick it up and they wouldn’t release it. Had to pay $750 in impound/storage fees on the following Monday. And that’s before we even knew if the truck was still road worthy… “you’ve been violated already so we’re gunna bend you over once more just because we can”
@@colehagglund4259 Were you insured for theft? If so, your insurance would have paid the $500 and the $750; if not, why should the rest of us pay for you?
Raise the punishment for these offences to much higher figures that would possiblity quell the offences sumwhat
42:00 why do these guys NOT WEAR SEAT belts?
destroying people property bexause its parked. what a joke law
What a waste of money to crush a good car why the Goverment dont auction them off that what most countries do
You are test driving a car with all your stuff in it? For how long?🙄
Seems a huge waste crushing cars, why not sell them too wreckers for parts? There's 3rd world nations buying up cars here in Australia just to ship home as parts...it's that bad we can't get basic parts for anything over 5yrs old...
They're stripped for saleable spare parts - how many times do they have to repeat that?
You can most certainly secure new and used parts for a 20 year old Volkswagen Golf in Australia. 🇩🇪 🇦🇺
I don't wonder their economy is suffering. To distroy anything that jas value is wasteful in the extreme.
Then they talk about high sheriffs of the Court running into people who simply CAN'T pay their debt...is it for lack of a car??
I'm not happy with America's systems right now, but we do better then that.
14 days is crazy , 30 days would be fair. Most people prob lose their cars to this place. Lots of $$ being made here.
Wouldn't really fancy that job TBH.
Why is it . Towies . After seeing what they see. Dont wear seatbelts
Not very interesting.
love this wish the states did this
I hate the way people deem those that can't afford to pay vehicle tax or have insurance dangerous drivers, If anything most are more cautious drivers as they don't want to draw attention to their situation and try to avoid being pulled over, Alot of that problem is caused by our Politicians having such high of fees just to use your vehicle, Maybe if registration (what we call vehicle tax in my Country) wasn't so expensive more could afford to pay it and wouldn't try skipping it.
They ARE "dangerous drivers" by definition - why should everyone else pay because they don't want to?
@@John-G Not all are, Some are just folks working a job and having bills that they have to pay catch up on them, It happens, We're not perfect and we don't need lumped into a category that we ain't, Just cause someone missed a insurance payment or didn't renew that stupid plate sticker don't make them a danger, There's a diffrence from wreckless driving and just driving with this-that illegal cause of the unfairly high costs tacked on with it. Maybe if they didn't charge such high fees people could always afford to buy a stupid little sticker to slap on their back plate every year but in my State the cost is outrageous, Frankly they could just have it where you could fill out a form online to reregister yearly FREE but if they insist on charging for it there's no need it should be bout $150.00 :O.
@@PolizeiPaul Sorry, but ALL are, no exceptions - not for the tax / registration side which makes little or no difference to anyone else (apart from the taxpayers) but for the insurance side.
If you hit someone and you're not insured then IF they have full insurance and can claim on their own insurance all they lose is their no claims bonus. If they don't and all they have is Third Party or Third Party, Fire and Theft, though, then they have to pay for the damage YOU've caused, which could mean anything from losing their car to losing their job if they need it for work, to paying their own medical bills - if they can afford to. They're "folks working a job", trying to play "catch up" and make ends meet too, and you've just stopped that happening.
How much of a danger do you want them to be?
Listen, it is hard for EVERYONE. NO ONE WANTS TO PAY. But we do it anyways because that's the safe and legal thing. If I get in an accident with an uninsured driver, MY insurance has to pay. How is that fair to me??
Growing number of immigrants.
Why aren't the cats auctioned off
You painted your front door the wrong colour so we are going have to impound your car.
I was tp scared to become a coppa , so now i steal peoples cars
Why the face diapers
Want a tissue?
Why not aution cars off . Help homeless or people who need help
Many of these very old cars are unroadworthy, so the authorities do not want the cars to be returned to the roads anyway. As stated by the scrapper, the commercially valuable parts are recovered for resale. The rest of the car is of little value and is scrapped.
How does auctioning off old shitty cars help homeless people?
First we take all the nice parts out, for what use, making money off of other people's misery
who cares
Seems pretty ridiculous that his car gets stolen due to no fault of his own but yet he has to pay the towing and storage fees otherwise his car will be crushed
I'm sure he can contest it by some means.
If he's insured, as he should be, the insurance will pay.

This looks far too close to extortion to be comfortable with.
Thank goodness I only need to endure American extortion.
This show is terrible. If anyone can point me in the right direction for some better television shows..it would be much appreciated
How come unclaimed cars are not auctioned off
In the US they would be. Consider that the UK has far less space. It's actually more advantageous not to have those cars on the road. Plus then people have to buy new cars. It's also a way to get junkers off the road.
I don’t agree with auctioning the property of others….unless used in serious crimes I think confiscation is wrong…
I agree with laws like insurance although insurance companies and their rates have become ridiculous….licensure, inspections etc are all reasonable and well justified
@@AreaCode757 At the same time they can only hold them for so long. In the US they are auctioned. In the UK they get crushed.
Because the crimnals will simply repurchase the vehicle at al low price, and commit more crimes.
Because they may not be roadworthy.
