Upgrading them by internet bluetooth but also impounding them if you haven't paid your taxes, road tax, insurance and/or latest dentist bill. Tesla can immobilise your car upon demand. All it takes is for the police to get a direct link to Tesla to do it. THEN they will standardize all (or part) of the software included in EVERY car and will be able to do the same. No more playing around and stopping cars. The police will simply give an electronic order to YOUR vehicle and then as soon as you park it and take the key away, it will NEVER start again. All they have to do is follow the integrated GPS and come and put it on a recovery truck. Or immobilise it if it's in a safe place (like your garage) until all your outstanding bills have been paid ...... Do you use e-billing ? Sooner or later the Banks will be doing your accounts for you and paying your bills and you will ONLY have access to cash IF there is some left .... 1984 is here 🙂 WHY on earth do you think Elon Musk is insisting his car company is NOT a car company but a tech company. They pay VERY fast when they are losing more per day by having a machine shut off than the horrendously expensive lease plan they thought they could evade simply by not paying anymore .... (NO I wasn't going to send engineers out to dismantle it and take it back - THAT would have cost a hell of a lot. YES; I could shut down their machine 🙂 from thousands of miles away). When they phoned up to say it wasn't working anymore we asked them if they had paid ? NEVER tell them you can switch it off. Let them work it out. It usually only ever happened once after that. But someone that gets involved in an accident and they have no claim against the driver, who is not got insurance, my friends husband was killed by a un insured driver, and he had three young children
It is all about the money. Somebody has to pay when an uninsured driver causes damage or injury. In simple terms government is funded by taxes, insurance payouts by premiums. Is it fair that those that don't pay are also exempt from any accountability? Can't afford insurance, buy a bicycle.

imagine if you were on vacation and when you come back you find out that your car has been scrapped because you forgot to pay road tax .
