Matteo is simply virtuousity personified. All the critics in the comment section spew their ignorance and jealousy with what they delusionally believe is a god given final authority have no idea of what they are talking about. Matteo is the total package, technical mastery, creative genius, inspiration, he breathes music, his spacing, timing, cadence and adventurous spirit effortlessly moves through idioms, genres and styles with grace and humility, not to mention that his original compositions are sheer genius. Sure there are other greats alive today, but comparrisons are pointless, because there is no single GOAT there are GOATS and Matteo lives among them.

I am a musical illiterate, ie don't read or have a real grasp of theory, but I know greatness when I hear it. I listen to the widest range of music imaginable, Eastern and Indian Classical music, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, European Classical, Jazz, Fusion, African traditional, Funk, Rock but I never waste my times on second rate hacks, which is why I recognize Matteo as one of the greats who has achieved a pinnacle of greatness that exists beyond legitimate objective criticism I only listen to musicians-musicians and don't give a damn about the delusional beliefs of the cattle-brained herd of popular consensus, for instance I don't particularly like Steve Vai ( Love Joe Satriani) or Van Halen because they are like orators, salesmen or preachers who speak fast pressurized speech with impressive finger acrobatics and florid flourishes of phrase, but at the end of the day have nothing to say worth hearing since they are speaking to their audience of primarily developmentally arrested juveniles. While I was gobsmacked and smitten when VH1 was released, I quickly lost interest because Van Halen's tone was atrocious and the subject matter of the lyrics was juvenile and the music quickly became one long tiresome teenage circle jerk. I absolutely hate michael jackson and when thriller was released, a friend who was completely smitten pressured me to listen and my response was that he was a gay pedophile with catchy hooks. I Love Hendrix, Page, Beck, Santana, McLaughlin, Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, but I also adore Stephanie Jones, Łukasz Kuropaczewski, Moran Wasser and don't let me get started on Flamenco or country greats or all the musicians who play a vast myriad of other instruments, bass, piano, drums, santoor, sitar, harp etc.,VM Bhatt who plays the instrument he designed, the Mohan Veena, a slide guitar great along with Jerry Douglas and Derek Trucks.

If you love Joe Satriani's work (I know I do), be more fair and you'll see there's still enough tunes by Steve that do not deserve your scathing remarks. For example, I don't think any true versatile connoisseur of good music would think Lotus Feet or Tender Surrender or even For the Love of God are not great and melodic pieces by Steve Vai. Same goes for Michael Jackson - I don't think anyone has proven he was a gay pedophile, not by a long shot. It's your own personal bias, which I understand. There are people we just seem compelled to hate, no matter what. I know I have them. That doesn't make us right or objective assessors of the truth. It's not only he can play like any other player, he improves the playing, makes it sharper, prettier, more complex and richer. I'm almost 60, saw and watched some of the very best but I never EVER witnessed anyone playing like this guy and he is just a kid twenty something now? where his limit will be? who the hell knows and don't forget the other two lads forming his trio, I think Riccardo Oliva on bass and I don't remember the drummer's name. However sometimes he is so perfect that doesn't even feel like you listen to a human playing guitar, it feels like some sort of machine and I don't really like that but hey, what the hell, give it to us Matteo, you are a real legend and I truly love this guy, he is like no other. However in terms of writing music there is another Italian guy who in my opinion is a way better composer, Daniele Gottardo. another musical wizard who will become a genius for sure. Aber es gibt viele, die so spielen können und auch noch Matteo mit seiner Spieltechnik einiges beibringen können, was er nicht kann. Allerdings muss ich auch zugestehen, dass nicht alle hervorragenden Gitarristen berühmt sind - deshalb kennst du die wohl nicht. Matteo ist außerdem kein Wunderkind - sehr viele Menschen können auf diesem Level spielen, wenn sie dazu gewillt sind, entsprechend viel zu üben. Das ist nicht wirklich außergewöhnlich, sondern lediglich ein hoher professioneller Level. Meistens staunen nur E-Gitarristen über Matteo - wer aber Musik studiert hat, für den ist das ein ganz normaler und erwartbarer Level, auf dem sich Matteo bewegt. Schon wirklich gut - aber erreichbar für viele Menschen, wenn sie das denn w i r k l i c h wollen.

Matteo’s high level of technique and musicianship has been rather the norm for the best of keyboard players for a very long time. It is so gratifying to see it now, finally, come to fruition in this young Italian musical wonder. I have been waiting a long time for a player like Matteo Mancuso to emerge.
You probably know about Eldar Djangirov, the child piano virtuoso from Kyrgyzstan. With many many efforts he finally took a stable position as a jazz pianist in the US. In addition to enormous talent, it takes many hours of daily work, and a bit of luck to be surrounded by the right people. Matteo is slowly working on the realization of the second CD, so we will soon talk about his legacy, believe me!

My point about Matteo is this: for many years we were told that what has been known to be true for the greatest of jazz pianists, namely a solid technical and musical foundation based in the classical repertoire was a good foundation to have, was a different matter for guitarists because the classical technique is so different from electric guitar technique. Take most of the great keyboard players (fill in the names here): most are classically trained. It was the expected background to have in the eras in which jazz was born and came of age. Matteo is the first guitarist that I know of who bridges all these styles on the guitar. That is great to witness. Classical technique and musicianship is not just about moving your fingers in a particular way. It is a way of defining and mastering-in short finding good, expressive solutions-to musical challenges. Matteo has done all of that. Quite an accomplishment. And yes, his legacy is already solid and lasting.

Ho assistito ad un concerto di Matteo e della sua band circa due mesi fa e, vi assicuro che il divertimento e il coinvolgimento, se vi piace il genere, non è mancato. Unbelievable ability. For me the Larry Carlton 335 solo is up there as one of the very best solos I've ever heard. He floats thru the chord changes with the most beautiful note choices and emotion. I don't think I've ever heard, in my 71 years, a solo to top this one..... and I've heard many, many great guitarists

Technique/virtuosity aside, I love Matteo's tone and sense of melody. A great musician can take you on an exciting journey each and every time he plays, and that is what Matteo does. To tell a beautiful story without words, for me that is one of the true measures of a great musician, beyond simply virtuosity and tech prowess, which even a blind man can see he's got in spades. Not jumping on any bandwagon, i really like the guy. I've played 40 years, and his skill level for such a young age is incredible. What differentiates the true greats, is that we are still playing thier songs decades after they were released. Take say cliffs of Dover. Millions copy it, only 1 guy wrote it. Hendrix songs - 60years old (all released by age of 27!) I really like matteo, if he can produce great albums he will join the legends in time. Skill alone doesnt do this.
He has his whole adult life ahead of him to write music. I agree, he hasn't written anything truly groundbreaking, but lately his note selection and creativity has increased. When he finally finds his unique message to the world it will be so much fun to experience.
@bcp5296d I agree, and we need new guitarists to come through. He does have his adult life ahead of him to do this, but when I look at george harrison, hendrix, clapton, page, beck, EVH, Joe walsh etc all those guys they were younger than matteo when they were churning out classics.. hendrix had already passed by matteos current age. but maybe now he is a full pro and in the right circles he will flourish. I am rooting for him to make it truly big.
@@steved1099 Clapton was a hack for most of his career, and a blatant racist for a good part of his life. The difference is that Matteo conquered the instrument at a level they could never dream of (minus hendrix and borderline EVH) at such a young age. He will hopefully find his voice
I'm very impressed with this kid! I've been playing for 40 years and could never hope to have his gift of speed and accuracy! I do play classical guitar and would love to hear him play some of the classics from composers like Tarrega or Barrios👍🏻

Guitar is very very hard to become any good at. Millions and millions of people play and practise their whole life and could not even play one of the songs shown here. How can anyone deny he is amazing. To say his playing is souless or another 7 year old youtuber will come along tomorrow just shows ignorance from non guitar players.
I'm not sure there's any other player as versatile, or as good as Matteo.I was a teen when Van Halen surfaced & We All know Edward was Great, game changing to put it mildly. Hendrix & Clapton were & Are great players. EJ, Andy Wood, Joe Bona area are All Great! Matteo is on another level...& to be solo young.I 'am personally looking forward to hearing from him for a long time to come!

MM took the guitar to another level, so said Al DiMeola and S. Vai. Some may not like him, but without a doubt this guy has an impressive ability to play the electric guitar with his fingers, as if he were playing an acoustic guitar and he does it with a cleanliness and skill that will blow your mind.
Es amüsiert mich immer, wenn ich weltbekannte E-Gitarristen so staunen sehe über Matteos Fähigkeiten. Für einen klassischen Gitarristen, der Musik studiert hat und dabei zu den Besten gehörte, ist dieser Level von Matteo nicht ungewöhnlich, ganz im Gegenteil, dieser Level ist einfach erwartbar für einen Musiker, der gut übt. Mir gefällt Matteo auch sehr gut - aber Al di Meola und Steve Vai haben eben noch viele andere Gitarristen nicht gehört, die aus dem klassischen Bereich kommen und ebenfalls mit den Fingern E-Gitarre spielen und die das mindestens auf dem Level beherrschen wie Matteo. Auf einer E-Gitarre so schnell zu spielen ist sogar noch wesentlich leichter als auf einer Konzertgitarre, da die Saitenlage viel tiefer liegt und gewisse musikalische Formen wie z. B. kontrapunktisches Spiel auf der E-Gitarre kaum praktiziert wird. Außer von klassischen Gitarristen, die auch E-Gitarre spielen. Von Matteo habe ich Kontrapunktisches noch nie gehört. Muss aber auch nicht sein - er hat einfach einen anderen Musikstil.

I'm tired of people trying to find any faults in Matteo's playing. Just stop it will you? It just makes you ridiculous and proves you don't understand anything of music. If Matteo is the Hero of our Heroes there must be a reason don't you think? And if anybody can't see that then it means you are still too immature musically speaking. What makes Matteo the God is not only his technique, that is amazing, but his musicality, the choice of every single note he plays even at high speed. He indeed has his own style, I could recognize him in any blind test because of his style. Just learn from a living legend instead of criticizing because of your huge ego.
Yes. I started at 6 on music school on France but my true I started when I was 14 too, the theory came and got me hooked only when I was 35. It was since I saw EVH with Eruption and his own style, different from everyone else, he wanted to evolve on the guitar. Today, I'm 61.

The most impressive with him is not the fact that he can reproduce all these great songs, but he can also improvise or even compose in these specifics styles. And I don't mean play rock chops over a blues or country tune, that's no polyvalence at all. He has the sound and the vocabulary in any style he plays. The only other player that versatile (in my opinion) was Riche Kotzen at the beginning of his carreer (now he's older and have nothing to prove). Now as a conclusion, a good joke: in a fairly old interview, Malmsteen said that if he wanted to, he could play any style, even Jazz... I understand what he meant: he's a great user of the minor melodic scale, often called "jazz" melodic scale, so he must have thought "I can play the scale, I can play Jazz, more is more..." and all that kinds of nonsenses he used to say at the time. I know, alcohol is a terrible substance 😂

The good news is that the influence and playing technique of MM is slowly conquering the world and this is proof. Name is Pham Cong Minh. It's hard to imagine that one day somebody's gonna come along that's better than Matteo, maybe in 100 years 😂.. As far as skill set is concerned he's the best I've ever heard .. It's not even fair ... what's even more amazing is he's not wicked like an Allan Holdsworth who was absolutely amazing but I always sensed something dark With Allan.. His song "Peril Premonition" is some of the most vicious guitar playing I've ever heard .. it's spellbinding and just mean spirited to the point that he would've gotten burned at the stake back in tha day when they didn't play that 😂 .. Matteo is even more skilled and versatile(If you can believe that)🤔 but he seems like a good kid.. I hope he stays that way .. The world definitely doesn't need another Jerk Musician !!!

Both are equally good, I was speaking to the difference in their vibes ... Allan was more mysterious and enigmatic while Matteo seems like a good kid that the world seems to not have corrupted yet😝..Stay tuned .. I think Matteo is more versatile but I could be wrong .. Its not only about overkill technic/speed, but soul and harmonic rules too. I think about Ed Bickert, Lenny Breau and Danny Gatton. It's a different style and sound. Hard to copy these guitarist.
Ja, Matteo ist wirklich ein toller Kollege, ich mag ihn und sein Spiel gefällt mir sehr gut. A b e r der Titel des Videos ist dennoch übertrieben, denn a l l e s kann er nicht. Das ist aber auch kein Makel. Es gibt da einige Spieltechniken aus dem Flamenco, die habe ich noch nie bei ihm gesehen bzw. gehört - und die man selbstverständlich auch auf der E-Gitarre und Konzertgitarre spielen kann. Auch das Speedpicking ist nicht so seine Sache - er ist zwar sehr schnell, doch das Tempo erzeugt er in Kombination mit vielen Aufschlägen und Abziehern in der linken Hand. Am Anfang des Videos habe ich ihn das erste Mal überhaupt ein ganz kurzes Stück im Speedpicking mit drei Fingern spielen sehen - aber das war nur auf der h- und e-Saite. Denn die Technik, die er dafür anwendet, ist ungünstig für die E-Gitarre. Sie lässt sich nicht günstig anwenden, wenn es über mehrere Saiten geht in der rechten Hand, da wird es dann aufgrund der Kompression leicht unsauber. Deshalb spielt er auch fast immer mit dem Haargummi am 1. Bund. Das alles ließe sich aber vermeiden, wenn er seine Technik für schnelle Läufe umstellt bzw. erweitert und seine Abdämpftechnik weiter ausbaut. Und wenn wir dann den Bereich der Klassik noch hinzunehmen, gibt es haufenweise Stücke, die Matteo nicht spielen kann - nehmen wir doch mal die Chaconne von Bach als Beispiel oder Stücke mit viel Polyphonie von Bach. Da sind dann noch ganz andere Qualitäten gefragt als auf der E-Gitarre. Das alles ist aber kein Makel - es gibt kaum jemanden, der wirklich in allen drei Bereichen, der Klassik, dem Flamenco und der E-Gitarre s e h r weit gekommen ist. Die meisten Leuten sind nur auf einem Gebiet fit - auch das ist kein Makel, es reicht vollkommen aus. Ich vermisse es nicht, dass Joe Satriani kein klassisches Stück spielt - er macht es eben auf der E-Gitarre toll. Nur: Es ist schon sehr praktisch, wenn man die verschiedenen Gitarrensparten sehr gut kennt - und in ihnen auch spielerisch sehr weit gekommen ist. Man kann so viel von einem auf das andere übertragen und es damit erweitern. Gerade auch bei der E-Gitarre lassen sich hervorragend einige Flamenco-Techniken einbringen. Die sind sehr perkussiv und passen wie angegossen in die Rock-Musik. Mit einem Plektrum lässt sich dieser Attack nicht erreichen. Und das Spiel mit den Fingern auf der E-Gitarre bringt viele Vorteile. Es gibt z. B. keinen Spieler mit Plektrum, der Triolen oder Quintolen im Speedpicking spielen kann. Mit den Fingern hingegen ist das für einen geübten Spieler ziemlich leicht. Das Speedpicking mit dem Plektrum ähnelt ja sehr einer Zitterbewegung - und die lässt einfach nur geradzahlige Rhythmen bei hohem Tempo zu, weil man da keinerlei Triolenakzent dabei erzeugen kann, geschweige denn Quintolen. Wenn es an Arpeggien geht, ist es das gleiche - da ist ein Plektrumspieler einem Fingerspieler hoffnungslos unterlegen im Tempo und der Präzision. Auch bei Akkorden ist ein Fingerspieler vielseitiger, weil er Akkorde mit der rechten Hand ganz leicht nach Belieben gestalten kann - er muss nicht zwingend nur Saiten anspielen, die direkt nebeneinander liegen, sondern kann auch Saiten auslassen - da eröffnen sich vollkommen neue Klangwelten, die auch die E-Gitarre sehr bereichern. Auch das perkussive Anschlagen von z. B. 4 oder 5 Saiten lässt sich mit den Fingern viel leichter präziser ausführen als mit einem Plektrum. Das gleiche ist bei Oktaven - mit den Fingern der rechten Hand sind die ganz leicht zu spielen - und wenn man die obere Oktave davon z. B. noch in schnellen Triolen dazuspielen will, geht das auch sehr leicht. Das gibt einen sehr virtuosen Klangeffekt - mit dem Plektrum wäre das unspielbar. Aber nun zu Matteo zurück: Kompositorisch ist noch nicht so viel los bei ihm - denn wenn man die Stücke anhört, stellt man fest, dass nach einer Weile fast alles gleich klingt, sobald es schnell wird. Meine Einwände, die sich n u r auf den Titel des Videos beziehen, sollen jetzt aber nicht den Eindruck erwecken, als wollte ich die Fähigkeiten von Matteo kleinreden. Ich halte wirklich sehr viel von ihm, er gehört auf jeden Fall mit zu den großen Könnern und sein Spiel gefällt mir sehr gut - aber den Gitarristen, der wirklich a l l e Stücke spielen kann, den gibt es nicht! Deshalb habe ich auch auf den Titel des Videos reagiert - denn der ist gar zu provokant, um das unwidersprochen so stehen zu lassen. In der Musik lernt man nie aus, man kann sich nur immer weiterentwickeln. Und so sehr ich Matteo schätze, weiß ich auch, dass es sehr viele Kollegen gibt, weltbekannte und Leute, die kaum jemand kennt, nur von youtube vielleicht und teilweise nicht einmal daher, die über ebensolche Fähigkeiten verfügen wie Matteo bzw. vielleicht woanders ihre Stärken haben. Es wird nur nicht jeder bekannt - d a s ist einer der Unterschiede zwischen vielen Weltklasse-Gitarristen. Viele Gitarristen haben ihre eigene Handschrift - viele sind ausgezeichnet, und dass es solch eine Vielfalt gibt, ist doch wunderschön. Jeder ist im Idealfall ein Individuum und unverwechselbar - auch auf dem Instrument! Es macht immer wieder viel Spaß, mit Kollegen zusammenzuspielen, die ihren eigenen Stil haben, und den haben sie unter anderem, weil sie sehr unterschiedlich angefangen haben mit dem Instrument. Obwohl auch ich Fingerspieler bin wie Matteo, so klingen meine Stücke bzw. Improvisationen ganz anders als seine - weil ich eine ganz andere Spieltechnik mit der rechten Hand bei schnellen Läufen auf der E-Gitarre verwende. Und das ist wirklich reines Speedpicking ohne Aufschläge oder Abzieher, so wie man es z. B. von Yngwie Malmsteen kennt, gewiss nicht langsamer, sondern durchaus noch schneller, wenn es erforderlich ist. Ich finde es toll von Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa und auch Al di Meola, dass sie Matteo so selbstlos eine Bühne geben und ihm helfen, bekannt zu werden. Und sie leben damit vor, was auch ich sehr schön finde - wenn wir Musiker uns alle als eine große Familie betrachten, welche die Gnade schätzen, dieses Talent bekommen zu haben, diese wahrlich spirituelle Tiefe genießen zu können, in die uns die Musik führt und jeden Tag dankbar sein können für dieses Glück - und zusammen spielen können!

@@fontanajazz Den Thomas Blug kenne ich auch - er ist auch ein sehr guter Gitarrist und es wundert mich natürlich nicht, dass er Matteo auch toll findet. Wer würde sich nicht über ihn freuen und hätte Lust, mit ihm mal zusammen auf einer Session zu spielen? ;-) Ich würde Matteo auch gerne mal mit Guthrie Govan zusammen spielen sehen. Da gibt es - außer der Spieltechnik der rechten Hand - sehr viele musikalische Gemeinsamkeiten bei denen. TH-cam ist schon ein tolles Medium. Immer wieder entdecke ich per Zufall neue, ganz famose Gitarristen aus aller Welt - die meisten haben allerdings keinen großen Namen, spielen aber dennoch auf Weltklasseniveau. Steve Vai hatte einst in einem Video ausführlicher darüber gesprochen, dass er da einige Kollegen hat, die eben auch exzellent spielen und die auch bekannt sind, aber dennoch nicht mit einem Lastwagen inklusive Roadmanagern durch die USA fahren können, um ihr vollständiges eigenes Equipment mitzunehmen. Die haben dann halt einfach nur ihre Gitarre und ein höchstens mittelgroßes Pedalboard dabei, wenn ihnen vor Ort dann die Amps zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Es ist im Laufe der Jahrzehnte eine sehr große Kluft entstanden - entweder man ist sehr berühmt (aber nur ganz wenige sind es) oder sehr unbekannt. Es hat nichts mehr mit dem Können zu tun - es wirkt viel Glück bzw. Schicksal dabei mit, als Musiker groß herauszukommen. Andi Timmons zum Beispiel ist zwar durchaus bekannt - er ist aber trotzdem etwas unterbewertet. Ich finde ihn ausgezeichnet, weil er auch mit seinen Kompositionsfähigkeiten so toll herausragt.
@@fontanajazz Der Algorithmus von youtube hat mich gerade an ein ganz neues Video von Matteo geführt - es ist ein sehr interessantes Interview, bei dem er natürlich auch viel Gitarre spielt. Dort wird er auch gefragt, an was er gerade denn übt. Und da kommt, wie es der Zufall will, auch das vor, was ich in meinem Anfangskommentar bereits beschrieben habe: Das Spiel mit 3 Fingern beim Speedpicking. Über eine bis zwei Saiten ist das noch relativ leicht machbar, aber wenn es über mehrere Saiten geht, wird es schwierig auf der E-Gitarre - zumindest mit der Fingertechnik, die er anwendet. Und er ist noch dabei, einen Vierer-Rhythmus auf 3 Finger aufteilen zu lernen - und zwar auf hohem Tempo. Bei Triolen kann man das sofort - beim Vierer-Rhythmus will das aber auch erst einmal geübt sein. Da ich allerdings eine andere 3-Finger-Technik in der rechten Hand verwende, die das alles sehr erleichtert, hätte ich ihm am liebsten ins Video hineingerufen "mach es doch so". Es ist eine Technik, die nur von ganz wenigen klassischen Gitarristen gespielt wird, ich schätze, dass unter 50000 höchstens einer dabei ist, der sie verwendet. Aber genau diese Spieltechnik wäre es, mit der alles viel leichter wird und er vor allem auf seinen Haargummi am 1. Bund verzichten kann. Denn durch die Spieltechnik, die er jetzt erst so richtig lernt, entstehen bei der E-Gitarre durch die Kompression sehr leicht Nebengeräusche beim Saitenwechsel - einfach durch das pure loslassen der Saite. Bei der Konzertgitarre oder Flamencogitarre entsteht dieses Problem nicht - dort kann man diese Technik schon sehr vorteilhaft anwenden. Mit der Technik - es sind auch drei Finger - die ich anwende beim Speedpicking, kann man die Saite, die man verlässt, aber zeitgleich abdämpfen sobald man die neue Saite anspielt. Dann entsteht kein Nebengeräusch und vor allem könnte er mit dieser Technik auf seinen Haargumme am 1. Bund verzichten - denn man sollte ja nicht außer Acht lassen, dass der die Kompositionsmöglichkeiten sehr einschränkt, da keine leere Saite benutzt werden kann. Vielleicht lerne ich Matteo ja mal in einem Italien-Urlaub zufällig persönlich kennen - dann erkläre ich es ihm. ;-)) Die meisten klassischen Gitarristen sind äußerst konservativ und autoritätsgläubig. Das hat dazu geführt, dass die spieltechnische Entwicklung in dieser Sparte seit ca. 100 Jahren fast stehengeblieben ist. Nur einzelne Gitarristen, eben jene, die nicht nur das nachmachen, was ihnen ihre Autoritäten einst gesagt haben, und die noch selber denken können und natürlich aber zeitlebens ihre Augen und Ohren offen hatten für Anregung von außen, machen einige Dinge ganz anders als 99,99999% der klassischen Gitarristen. Das fängt schon mit der Haltung an, bei der viele klassische Gitarristen im Laufe der Jahre Beschwerden bekommen, weil sie keinerlei Gefühl für ihren eigenen Körper haben, keine Ahnung von Ergonomie und auch kein medizinisches Wissen über den Aspekt der Haltung. Dabei ist das sogar medizinisch-wissenschaftlich alles schon gründlich untersucht worden - und dabei kam heraus, dass die traditionelle Haltung auf dem linken Bein die ungesündeste Haltung ist, die man einnehmen kann. Wer ein Gefühl für seinen Körper hat, merkt das sowieso auch selbst - aber die meisten hören nicht mehr auf sich, sie sind stumpf geworden sich selbst gegenüber. Und so geht das mit vielen anderen Dingen dann weiter. Die meisten klassischen Gitarristen spielen schnelle Läufe auch nicht mit 3 Fingern, sondern nur mit 2. Dabei ist man natürlich längst nicht so schnell wie mit 3 Fingern - aber weil es die Autoritäten nicht gemacht haben mangels Fantasie, machen sie es halt auch nicht. Und genau deshalb es gibt kaum klassische Gitarristen, die im Speedpicking lange Läufe spielen können. Sie retten sich zumeist mit Tricks über einen langen Lauf, in dem sie viele Aufschläge oder Abzieher mit einflechten. Oder sie meiden Stücke mit sehr schnellen Läufen... Yes, his technique is incredible. Matteo will need to develop his own individual style and write his own compositions if he wishes to 'make it' as one of the greats, such as Holdsworth or Metheny to name just two.
As soon as you comes up with one really world class composition / song / piece of music (with - or without virtuosity) I will have respect for him. In two days we will have the next senseless 7 year old virtuoso from China- this goes on and on and on- What is the purpose of that?
When I read through all the comments, I think I have identified the real problem in the pointless pro and con discussion. Some are his fans, they "idolize" his supposed uniqueness and designate other opinions as blasphemy, others are simply bothered by the hype surrounding him. I keep my fingers crossed for Matteo Mancuso that he is not crushed by his followers.

Matteo is simply virtuousity personified. All the critics in the comment section spew their ignorance and jealousy with what they delusionally believe is a god given final authority have no idea of what they are talking about.
Matteo is the total package, technical mastery, creative genius, inspiration, he breathes music, his spacing, timing, cadence and adventurous spirit effortlessly moves through idioms, genres and styles with grace and humility, not to mention that his original compositions are sheer genius. Sure there are other greats alive today, but comparrisons are pointless, because there is no single GOAT there are GOATS and Matteo lives among them.

I love music and spend most of my days listening to all forms and idioms, that inspire me to play and expand my oeuvre. I am a musical illiterate, ie don't read or have a real grasp of theory, but I know greatness when I hear it.
I listen to the widest range of music imaginable, Eastern and Indian Classical music, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, European Classical, Jazz, Fusion, African traditional, Funk, Rock but I never waste my times on second rate hacks, which is why I recognize Matteo as one of the greats who has achieved a pinnacle of greatness that exists beyond legitimate objective criticism
I only listen to musicians-musicians and don't give a damn about the delusional beliefs of the cattle-brained herd of popular consensus, for instance I don't particularly like Steve Vai ( Love Joe Satriani) or Van Halen because they are like orators, salesmen or preachers who speak fast pressurized speech with impressive finger acrobatics and florid flourishes of phrase, but at the end of the day have nothing to say worth hearing since they are speaking to their audience of primarily developmentally arrested juveniles.
While I was gobsmacked and smitten when VH1 was released, I quickly lost interest because Van Halen's tone was atrocious and the subject matter of the lyrics was juvenile and the music quickly became one long tiresome teenage circle jerk. I absolutely hate michael jackson and when thriller was released, a friend who was completely smitten pressured me to listen and my response was that he was a gay pedophile with catchy hooks.
I Love Hendrix, Page, Beck, Santana, McLaughlin, Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, but I also adore Stephanie Jones, Łukasz Kuropaczewski, Moran Wasser and don't let me get started on Flamenco or country greats or all the musicians who play a vast myriad of other instruments, bass, piano, drums, santoor, sitar, harp etc.,VM Bhatt who plays the instrument he designed, the Mohan Veena, a slide guitar great along with Jerry Douglas and Derek Trucks.

If you love Joe Satriani's work (I know I do), be more fair and you'll see there's still enough tunes by Steve that do not deserve your scathing remarks. For example, I don't think any true versatile connoisseur of good music would think Lotus Feet or Tender Surrender or even For the Love of God are not great and melodic pieces by Steve Vai.
Same goes for Michael Jackson - I don't think anyone has proven he was a gay pedophile, not by a long shot. It's your own personal bias, which I understand. There are people we just seem compelled to hate, no matter what. I know I have them. That doesn't make us right or objective assessors of the truth. It's not only he can play like any other player, he improves the playing, makes it sharper, prettier, more complex and richer. I'm almost 60, saw and watched some of the very best but I never EVER witnessed anyone playing like this guy and he is just a kid twenty something now? where his limit will be? who the hell knows and don't forget the other two lads forming his trio, I think Riccardo Oliva on bass and I don't remember the drummer's name. However sometimes he is so perfect that doesn't even feel like you listen to a human playing guitar, it feels like some sort of machine and I don't really like that but hey, what the hell, give it to us Matteo, you are a real legend and I truly love this guy, he is like no other. However in terms of writing music there is another Italian guy who in my opinion is a way better composer, Daniele Gottardo. another musical wizard who will become a genius for sure. Aber es gibt viele, die so spielen können und auch noch Matteo mit seiner Spieltechnik einiges beibringen können, was er nicht kann. Allerdings muss ich auch zugestehen, dass nicht alle hervorragenden Gitarristen berühmt sind - deshalb kennst du die wohl nicht. Matteo ist außerdem kein Wunderkind - sehr viele Menschen können auf diesem Level spielen, wenn sie dazu gewillt sind, entsprechend viel zu üben. Das ist nicht wirklich außergewöhnlich, sondern lediglich ein hoher professioneller Level. Meistens staunen nur E-Gitarristen über Matteo - wer aber Musik studiert hat, für den ist das ein ganz normaler und erwartbarer Level, auf dem sich Matteo bewegt. Schon wirklich gut - aber erreichbar für viele Menschen, wenn sie das denn w i r k l i c h wollen.

Matteo is the true poster boy for the soundness of developing a true and complete technical foundation with a traditional classical guitar technique as the cornerstone for it all. Matteo’s high level of technique and musicianship has been rather the norm for the best of keyboard players for a very long time. It is so gratifying to see it now, finally, come to fruition in this young Italian musical wonder. I have been waiting a long time for a player like Matteo Mancuso to emerge.
You probably know about Eldar Djangirov, the child piano virtuoso from Kyrgyzstan. With many many efforts he finally took a stable position as a jazz pianist in the US. In addition to enormous talent, it takes many hours of daily work, and a bit of luck to be surrounded by the right people. Matteo is slowly working on the realization of the second CD, so we will soon talk about his legacy, believe me!

My point about Matteo is this: for many years we were told that what has been known to be true for the greatest of jazz pianists, namely a solid technical and musical foundation based in the classical repertoire was a good foundation to have, was a different matter for guitarists because the classical technique is so different from electric guitar technique. Take most of the great keyboard players (fill in the names here): most are classically trained. It was the expected background to have in the eras in which jazz was born and came of age.
Matteo is the first guitarist that I know of who bridges all these styles on the guitar. That is great to witness. Classical technique and musicianship is not just about moving your fingers in a particular way. It is a way of defining and mastering-in short finding good, expressive solutions-to musical challenges. Matteo has done all of that. Quite an accomplishment.
And yes, his legacy is already solid and lasting.
Video bellissimo. Seguo Matteo da molti anni e conosco tutti i brani riportati. Ma è stata una mezz'ora di puro piacere. Ho assistito ad un concerto di Matteo e della sua band circa due mesi fa e, vi assicuro che il divertimento e il coinvolgimento, se vi piace il genere, non è mancato. Tra l'altro, prima del concerto, ha cenato con il suo entourage ad un tavolo vicino al nostro, e si è visto chiaramente che anche come persona è estremamente affabile e modesta. Merita ogni applauso e successo che il mondo vorrà riservargli.

Unbelievable ability. For me the Larry Carlton 335 solo is up there as one of the very best solos I've ever heard. He floats thru the chord changes with the most beautiful note choices and emotion. I don't think I've ever heard, in my 71 years, a solo to top this one..... and I've heard many, many great guitarists

Technique/virtuosity aside, I love Matteo's tone and sense of melody. A great musician can take you on an exciting journey each and every time he plays, and that is what Matteo does. To tell a beautiful story without words, for me that is one of the true measures of a great musician, beyond simply virtuosity and tech prowess, which even a blind man can see he's got in spades. Not jumping on any bandwagon, i really like the guy. I've played 40 years, and his skill level for such a young age is incredible. What differentiates the true greats, is that we are still playing thier songs decades after they were released. Take say cliffs of Dover. Millions copy it, only 1 guy wrote it. Hendrix songs - 60years old (all released by age of 27!) I really like matteo, if he can produce great albums he will join the legends in time. Skill alone doesnt do this.
He has his whole adult life ahead of him to write music. I agree, he hasn't written anything truly groundbreaking, but lately his note selection and creativity has increased. When he finally finds his unique message to the world it will be so much fun to experience.
@bcp5296d I agree, and we need new guitarists to come through. He does have his adult life ahead of him to do this, but when I look at george harrison, hendrix, clapton, page, beck, EVH, Joe walsh etc all those guys they were younger than matteo when they were churning out classics.. hendrix had already passed by matteos current age. but maybe now he is a full pro and in the right circles he will flourish. I am rooting for him to make it truly big.
@@steved1099 Clapton was a hack for most of his career, and a blatant racist for a good part of his life. The difference is that Matteo conquered the instrument at a level they could never dream of (minus hendrix and borderline EVH) at such a young age. He will hopefully find his voice

Guitar is very very hard to become any good at. Millions and millions of people play and practise their whole life and could not even play one of the songs shown here. How can anyone deny he is amazing. To say his playing is souless or another 7 year old youtuber will come along tomorrow just shows ignorance from non guitar players.

I'm not sure there's any other player as versatile, or as good as Matteo.I was a teen when Van Halen surfaced & We All know Edward was Great, game changing to put it mildly. Hendrix & Clapton were & Are great players. EJ, Andy Wood, Joe Bona area are All Great! Matteo is on another level...& to be solo young.I 'am personally looking forward to hearing from him for a long time to come!

MM took the guitar to another level, so said Al DiMeola and S. Vai. Some may not like him, but without a doubt this guy has an impressive ability to play the electric guitar with his fingers, as if he were playing an acoustic guitar and he does it with a cleanliness and skill that will blow your mind.
Es amüsiert mich immer, wenn ich weltbekannte E-Gitarristen so staunen sehe über Matteos Fähigkeiten. Für einen klassischen Gitarristen, der Musik studiert hat und dabei zu den Besten gehörte, ist dieser Level von Matteo nicht ungewöhnlich, ganz im Gegenteil, dieser Level ist einfach erwartbar für einen Musiker, der gut übt.
Mir gefällt Matteo auch sehr gut - aber Al di Meola und Steve Vai haben eben noch viele andere Gitarristen nicht gehört, die aus dem klassischen Bereich kommen und ebenfalls mit den Fingern E-Gitarre spielen und die das mindestens auf dem Level beherrschen wie Matteo. Auf einer E-Gitarre so schnell zu spielen ist sogar noch wesentlich leichter als auf einer Konzertgitarre, da die Saitenlage viel tiefer liegt und gewisse musikalische Formen wie z. B. kontrapunktisches Spiel auf der E-Gitarre kaum praktiziert wird. Außer von klassischen Gitarristen, die auch E-Gitarre spielen. Von Matteo habe ich Kontrapunktisches noch nie gehört. Muss aber auch nicht sein - er hat einfach einen anderen Musikstil.

What makes Matteo the God is not only his technique, that is amazing, but his musicality, the choice of every single note he plays even at high speed. Die meisten schweren Stücke, die es gibt, kann er nicht spielen. Das ist auch keine Schande, sondern ganz normal. Es gibt keinen Gitarristen auf diesem Planeten, der auch nur annähernd alle schwierigen Stücke spielen kann. Der Titel im Video ist einfach dumm - er fordert es geradezu heraus, dass man ihm widerspricht, weil er nicht haltbar ist.

The most impressive with him is not the fact that he can reproduce all these great songs, but he can also improvise or even compose in these specifics styles.
And I don't mean play rock chops over a blues or country tune, that's no polyvalence at all. He has the sound and the vocabulary in any style he plays. The only other player that versatile (in my opinion) was Riche Kotzen at the beginning of his carreer (now he's older and have nothing to prove).
Now as a conclusion, a good joke: in a fairly old interview, Malmsteen said that if he wanted to, he could play any style, even Jazz... I understand what he meant: he's a great user of the minor melodic scale, often called "jazz" melodic scale, so he must have thought "I can play the scale, I can play Jazz, more is more..." and all that kinds of nonsenses he used to say at the time. I know, alcohol is a terrible substance 😂

It's hard to imagine that one day somebody's gonna come along that's better than Matteo, maybe in 100 years 😂.. As far as skill set is concerned he's the best I've ever heard .. It's not even fair ... what's even more amazing is he's not wicked like an Allan Holdsworth who was absolutely amazing but I always sensed something dark With Allan.. His song "Peril Premonition" is some of the most vicious guitar playing I've ever heard .. it's spellbinding and just mean spirited to the point that he would've gotten burned at the stake back in tha day when they didn't play that 😂 .. Matteo is even more skilled and versatile(If you can believe that)🤔 but he seems like a good kid.. I hope he stays that way .. The world definitely doesn't need another Jerk Musician !!!

Both are equally good, I was speaking to the difference in their vibes ... Allan was more mysterious and enigmatic while Matteo seems like a good kid that the world seems to not have corrupted yet😝..Stay tuned .. I think Matteo is more versatile but I could be wrong .. Josh Meader is phenomenal as well but Matteo is smh... just different !!!

Ja, Matteo ist wirklich ein toller Kollege, ich mag ihn und sein Spiel gefällt mir sehr gut. A b e r der Titel des Videos ist dennoch übertrieben, denn a l l e s kann er nicht. Das ist aber auch kein Makel. Es gibt da einige Spieltechniken aus dem Flamenco, die habe ich noch nie bei ihm gesehen bzw. gehört - und die man selbstverständlich auch auf der E-Gitarre und Konzertgitarre spielen kann. Auch das Speedpicking ist nicht so seine Sache - er ist zwar sehr schnell, doch das Tempo erzeugt er in Kombination mit vielen Aufschlägen und Abziehern in der linken Hand. Am Anfang des Videos habe ich ihn das erste Mal überhaupt ein ganz kurzes Stück im Speedpicking mit drei Fingern spielen sehen - aber das war nur auf der h- und e-Saite. Denn die Technik, die er dafür anwendet, ist ungünstig für die E-Gitarre. Sie lässt sich nicht günstig anwenden, wenn es über mehrere Saiten geht in der rechten Hand, da wird es dann aufgrund der Kompression leicht unsauber. Deshalb spielt er auch fast immer mit dem Haargummi am 1. Bund. Das alles ließe sich aber vermeiden, wenn er seine Technik für schnelle Läufe umstellt bzw. erweitert und seine Abdämpftechnik weiter ausbaut.
Und wenn wir dann den Bereich der Klassik noch hinzunehmen, gibt es haufenweise Stücke, die Matteo nicht spielen kann - nehmen wir doch mal die Chaconne von Bach als Beispiel oder Stücke mit viel Polyphonie von Bach. Da sind dann noch ganz andere Qualitäten gefragt als auf der E-Gitarre. Das alles ist aber kein Makel - es gibt kaum jemanden, der wirklich in allen drei Bereichen, der Klassik, dem Flamenco und der E-Gitarre s e h r weit gekommen ist. Die meisten Leuten sind nur auf einem Gebiet fit - auch das ist kein Makel, es reicht vollkommen aus. Ich vermisse es nicht, dass Joe Satriani kein klassisches Stück spielt - er macht es eben auf der E-Gitarre toll. Nur: Es ist schon sehr praktisch, wenn man die verschiedenen Gitarrensparten sehr gut kennt - und in ihnen auch spielerisch sehr weit gekommen ist. Man kann so viel von einem auf das andere übertragen und es damit erweitern. Gerade auch bei der E-Gitarre lassen sich hervorragend einige Flamenco-Techniken einbringen. Die sind sehr perkussiv und passen wie angegossen in die Rock-Musik. Mit einem Plektrum lässt sich dieser Attack nicht erreichen. Und das Spiel mit den Fingern auf der E-Gitarre bringt viele Vorteile. Es gibt z. B. keinen Spieler mit Plektrum, der Triolen oder Quintolen im Speedpicking spielen kann. Mit den Fingern hingegen ist das für einen geübten Spieler ziemlich leicht. Das Speedpicking mit dem Plektrum ähnelt ja sehr einer Zitterbewegung - und die lässt einfach nur geradzahlige Rhythmen bei hohem Tempo zu, weil man da keinerlei Triolenakzent dabei erzeugen kann, geschweige denn Quintolen. Wenn es an Arpeggien geht, ist es das gleiche - da ist ein Plektrumspieler einem Fingerspieler hoffnungslos unterlegen im Tempo und der Präzision. Auch bei Akkorden ist ein Fingerspieler vielseitiger, weil er Akkorde mit der rechten Hand ganz leicht nach Belieben gestalten kann - er muss nicht zwingend nur Saiten anspielen, die direkt nebeneinander liegen, sondern kann auch Saiten auslassen - da eröffnen sich vollkommen neue Klangwelten, die auch die E-Gitarre sehr bereichern. Auch das perkussive Anschlagen von z. B. 4 oder 5 Saiten lässt sich mit den Fingern viel leichter präziser ausführen als mit einem Plektrum. Das gleiche ist bei Oktaven - mit den Fingern der rechten Hand sind die ganz leicht zu spielen - und wenn man die obere Oktave davon z. B. noch in schnellen Triolen dazuspielen will, geht das auch sehr leicht. Das gibt einen sehr virtuosen Klangeffekt - mit dem Plektrum wäre das unspielbar.
Aber nun zu Matteo zurück: Kompositorisch ist noch nicht so viel los bei ihm - denn wenn man die Stücke anhört, stellt man fest, dass nach einer Weile fast alles gleich klingt, sobald es schnell wird.
Meine Einwände, die sich n u r auf den Titel des Videos beziehen, sollen jetzt aber nicht den Eindruck erwecken, als wollte ich die Fähigkeiten von Matteo kleinreden. Ich halte wirklich sehr viel von ihm, er gehört auf jeden Fall mit zu den großen Könnern und sein Spiel gefällt mir sehr gut - aber den Gitarristen, der wirklich a l l e Stücke spielen kann, den gibt es nicht! Deshalb habe ich auch auf den Titel des Videos reagiert - denn der ist gar zu provokant, um das unwidersprochen so stehen zu lassen. In der Musik lernt man nie aus, man kann sich nur immer weiterentwickeln. Und so sehr ich Matteo schätze, weiß ich auch, dass es sehr viele Kollegen gibt, weltbekannte und Leute, die kaum jemand kennt, nur von youtube vielleicht und teilweise nicht einmal daher, die über ebensolche Fähigkeiten verfügen wie Matteo bzw. vielleicht woanders ihre Stärken haben. Es wird nur nicht jeder bekannt - d a s ist einer der Unterschiede zwischen vielen Weltklasse-Gitarristen. Viele Gitarristen haben ihre eigene Handschrift - viele sind ausgezeichnet, und dass es solch eine Vielfalt gibt, ist doch wunderschön. Jeder ist im Idealfall ein Individuum und unverwechselbar - auch auf dem Instrument! Es macht immer wieder viel Spaß, mit Kollegen zusammenzuspielen, die ihren eigenen Stil haben, und den haben sie unter anderem, weil sie sehr unterschiedlich angefangen haben mit dem Instrument. Obwohl auch ich Fingerspieler bin wie Matteo, so klingen meine Stücke bzw. Improvisationen ganz anders als seine - weil ich eine ganz andere Spieltechnik mit der rechten Hand bei schnellen Läufen auf der E-Gitarre verwende. Und das ist wirklich reines Speedpicking ohne Aufschläge oder Abzieher, so wie man es z. B. von Yngwie Malmsteen kennt, gewiss nicht langsamer, sondern durchaus noch schneller, wenn es erforderlich ist.
Ich finde es toll von Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa und auch Al di Meola, dass sie Matteo so selbstlos eine Bühne geben und ihm helfen, bekannt zu werden. Und sie leben damit vor, was auch ich sehr schön finde - wenn wir Musiker uns alle als eine große Familie betrachten, welche die Gnade schätzen, dieses Talent bekommen zu haben, diese wahrlich spirituelle Tiefe genießen zu können, in die uns die Musik führt und jeden Tag dankbar sein können für dieses Glück - und zusammen spielen können!

@@fontanajazz Den Thomas Blug kenne ich auch - er ist auch ein sehr guter Gitarrist und es wundert mich natürlich nicht, dass er Matteo auch toll findet. Wer würde sich nicht über ihn freuen und hätte Lust, mit ihm mal zusammen auf einer Session zu spielen? ;-) Ich würde Matteo auch gerne mal mit Guthrie Govan zusammen spielen sehen. Da gibt es - außer der Spieltechnik der rechten Hand - sehr viele musikalische Gemeinsamkeiten bei denen.
TH-cam ist schon ein tolles Medium. Immer wieder entdecke ich per Zufall neue, ganz famose Gitarristen aus aller Welt - die meisten haben allerdings keinen großen Namen, spielen aber dennoch auf Weltklasseniveau. Steve Vai hatte einst in einem Video ausführlicher darüber gesprochen, dass er da einige Kollegen hat, die eben auch exzellent spielen und die auch bekannt sind, aber dennoch nicht mit einem Lastwagen inklusive Roadmanagern durch die USA fahren können, um ihr vollständiges eigenes Equipment mitzunehmen. Die haben dann halt einfach nur ihre Gitarre und ein höchstens mittelgroßes Pedalboard dabei, wenn ihnen vor Ort dann die Amps zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Es ist im Laufe der Jahrzehnte eine sehr große Kluft entstanden - entweder man ist sehr berühmt (aber nur ganz wenige sind es) oder sehr unbekannt. Es hat nichts mehr mit dem Können zu tun - es wirkt viel Glück bzw. Schicksal dabei mit, als Musiker groß herauszukommen. Andi Timmons zum Beispiel ist zwar durchaus bekannt - er ist aber trotzdem etwas unterbewertet. Ich finde ihn ausgezeichnet, weil er auch mit seinen Kompositionsfähigkeiten so toll herausragt.

@@fontanajazz Der Algorithmus von youtube hat mich gerade an ein ganz neues Video von Matteo geführt - es ist ein sehr interessantes Interview, bei dem er natürlich auch viel Gitarre spielt. Dort wird er auch gefragt, an was er gerade denn übt. Und da kommt, wie es der Zufall will, auch das vor, was ich in meinem Anfangskommentar bereits beschrieben habe: Das Spiel mit 3 Fingern beim Speedpicking. Über eine bis zwei Saiten ist das noch relativ leicht machbar, aber wenn es über mehrere Saiten geht, wird es schwierig auf der E-Gitarre - zumindest mit der Fingertechnik, die er anwendet. Und er ist noch dabei, einen Vierer-Rhythmus auf 3 Finger aufteilen zu lernen - und zwar auf hohem Tempo. Bei Triolen kann man das sofort - beim Vierer-Rhythmus will das aber auch erst einmal geübt sein. Da ich allerdings eine andere 3-Finger-Technik in der rechten Hand verwende, die das alles sehr erleichtert, hätte ich ihm am liebsten ins Video hineingerufen "mach es doch so". Es ist eine Technik, die nur von ganz wenigen klassischen Gitarristen gespielt wird, ich schätze, dass unter 50000 höchstens einer dabei ist, der sie verwendet.
Aber genau diese Spieltechnik wäre es, mit der alles viel leichter wird und er vor allem auf seinen Haargummi am 1. Bund verzichten kann. Denn durch die Spieltechnik, die er jetzt erst so richtig lernt, entstehen bei der E-Gitarre durch die Kompression sehr leicht Nebengeräusche beim Saitenwechsel - einfach durch das pure loslassen der Saite. Bei der Konzertgitarre oder Flamencogitarre entsteht dieses Problem nicht - dort kann man diese Technik schon sehr vorteilhaft anwenden. Mit der Technik - es sind auch drei Finger - die ich anwende beim Speedpicking, kann man die Saite, die man verlässt, aber zeitgleich abdämpfen sobald man die neue Saite anspielt. Dann entsteht kein Nebengeräusch und vor allem könnte er mit dieser Technik auf seinen Haargumme am 1. Bund verzichten - denn man sollte ja nicht außer Acht lassen, dass der die Kompositionsmöglichkeiten sehr einschränkt, da keine leere Saite benutzt werden kann. Vielleicht lerne ich Matteo ja mal in einem Italien-Urlaub zufällig persönlich kennen - dann erkläre ich es ihm. ;-))
Die meisten klassischen Gitarristen sind äußerst konservativ und autoritätsgläubig. Das hat dazu geführt, dass die spieltechnische Entwicklung in dieser Sparte seit ca. 100 Jahren fast stehengeblieben ist. Nur einzelne Gitarristen, eben jene, die nicht nur das nachmachen, was ihnen ihre Autoritäten einst gesagt haben, und die noch selber denken können und natürlich aber zeitlebens ihre Augen und Ohren offen hatten für Anregung von außen, machen einige Dinge ganz anders als 99,99999% der klassischen Gitarristen. Das fängt schon mit der Haltung an, bei der viele klassische Gitarristen im Laufe der Jahre Beschwerden bekommen, weil sie keinerlei Gefühl für ihren eigenen Körper haben, keine Ahnung von Ergonomie und auch kein medizinisches Wissen über den Aspekt der Haltung. Dabei ist das sogar medizinisch-wissenschaftlich alles schon gründlich untersucht worden - und dabei kam heraus, dass die traditionelle Haltung auf dem linken Bein die ungesündeste Haltung ist, die man einnehmen kann. Wer ein Gefühl für seinen Körper hat, merkt das sowieso auch selbst - aber die meisten hören nicht mehr auf sich, sie sind stumpf geworden sich selbst gegenüber. Und so geht das mit vielen anderen Dingen dann weiter. Die meisten klassischen Gitarristen spielen schnelle Läufe auch nicht mit 3 Fingern, sondern nur mit 2. Dabei ist man natürlich längst nicht so schnell wie mit 3 Fingern - aber weil es die Autoritäten nicht gemacht haben mangels Fantasie, machen sie es halt auch nicht. Und genau deshalb es gibt kaum klassische Gitarristen, die im Speedpicking lange Läufe spielen können. Sie retten sich zumeist mit Tricks über einen langen Lauf, in dem sie viele Aufschläge oder Abzieher mit einflechten. Oder sie meiden Stücke mit sehr schnellen Läufen...

Yes, his technique is incredible. Matteo will need to develop his own individual style and write his own compositions if he wishes to 'make it' as one of the greats, such as Holdsworth or Metheny to name just two.

When I read through all the comments, I think I have identified the real problem in the pointless pro and con discussion. Some are his fans, they "idolize" his supposed uniqueness and designate other opinions as blasphemy, others are simply bothered by the hype surrounding him. I keep my fingers crossed for Matteo Mancuso that he is not crushed by his followers.
