not only his right hand but his tone is so warm and plays clean! sounds like he was playing for almost 50 years
His amazing technique alone would be a pinnacle achievement, but it is topped but a musicality and creativity that knows no bounds. Truly a great musician, and still very young. Easily my favorite guitarist these days.

I’ve met him few days in Montreux at Guitar Show exhibition .. well, what to say… he seems humble and kind person… it was nice to meet him… I hope through the years he will keep that humility ! 🙏 he’s truly gifted from God !

I'm from the famous 68 years, I know nearly each guitar player since that time. But the young Italian blows them up. His musical talent, his way of expressing himself is so exceptionally, so I can't find another words.

Yes. He's really so humble. Living in Italy I've already had the luck of watching him live nearby, in some nice and intimate context.
So humble and yet displaying all the ingredients that make a master of both instrument and music.

My interest in music spans across multiple genres but I would have to say that the harmonic sophistication of jazz interests me the most. It's not about it being a contest about what's the most complex. I just find it more interesting, more possibilities than the confines of blues rock pentatonic universe. I still love a lot of rock and blues music, definitely. It's about contrast and variation and new sounds. With that said, it seems that a lot of people who mainly love rock based music are more in awe of Matteo for his shredding/chops/lots of notes/fast component. Sure, that's impressive, especially his right-hand technique. However, for me it's how he *applies* his knowledge of music in general and his use of sophisticated jazz harmonics, etc. It's the *notes*, not how many of them there are. I think I would love this guy's playing even if he played with a pick and his technique was half of what it is, because what he would be playing would still be creative and compelling melodically and harmonically.
Nailed it. Of course I love "shredding" and technical playing, especially with such a novel approach to electric guitar soloing - but the man stands on the shoulders of giants also when it comes to phrasing, the confidence he has is just mindblowing.
Mancuso and Mateus Asato are already LEGENDS in my book - both are other-worldly in their own ways. So melodic. So HUMBLE. They BOTH bring joy to my world.

Well done. I grew up playing fingerstyle from classical and flamenco, but never thought to use it on electric with jazz, blues etc. until Matteo. A revelation. His right hand technique with thumb resting on lower strings is the picado one I learned from flamenco.

I was in a bad depression after my all time favorite guitarist, Jeff Beck, passed away early last year. Just did not care to listen to music anymore. About 3 months ago I discovered Matteo Mancuso. His wonderful guitar playing made me ❤ guitar driven music again. I would hope Jeff Beck would like his playing as well.

Bass guitarists might be able to apply same principle to a guitar, definitely open up a new realm, Beautiful and smooth vibrato as well, what a talent.
I don't know if there's something wrong with me, but when I hear this fellow Sicilian play his guitar, I cry because of how beautiful it sounds. I am just going to come right out with it, and say that Matteo is the very best guitarist I have ever heard in my 66 years of living.

Matteo ha semplicemente ricevuto il testimone da chi è venuto prima. Non è diverso dal migliorare l'atletica, il pattinaggio e altri sport. Ma ciò che è squisitamente unico è duplice: 1: l'applicazione della pennata per chitarra classica; & 2. avere un orecchio così creativo da cantare istintivamente nella melodia a differenza di chiunque altro.
My favorite right now is Mateo! I've heard a lot of criticism from guitar players, it's not just mathematical, sterile playing, I do hear the soul in his playing. It's so obvious that these people are seriously jealous 😁 and I get it, but his talent cannot be denied!
Yeah! Blew my mind, seeing his country/fusion on a Tele style instrument, and from then on I told everyone I knew about it.
I really believe this is the one dude that truly forms a new generation of players. And that is a huge thing. I've never seen anyone with the Right hand, but left hand as well. Fluent, fluid, liquid volcano.. he's a pioneer innovator. Love his playing amazing stuff..
It’s art so there isn’t really ‘the best’. It’s not a sport and thus a competition. That said, Matteo is a phenomenal player. His phrasing is extraordinary plus he’s a really nice young man too.
The thing with Mancuso's technique is that he can easily shift 2 gears faster than the fastest picker on earth
Matteo Mancuso is in a league of his own , a unique talent exactly like the alien Shawn Lane . The young Italian artist will be a legend .
Some of us have known about and seen him as the best guitar player for 8-10 years now. I've seen videos where he as 16 year old does the stuff he does now. About time the of you woke up and discovered him. Better late than never i guess.
Yes thank you. People need to know he was already a master in his mid teens. It's like he woke up one day and could just do what he does.
It's like when Shawn Lane came on the scene and blew everybody out of the water; no one could believe what they were seeing and hearing! Now Matteo is that guy wth the inimitable and flawless style playing super complicated Holdsworth-like riffs effortlessly! His electric guitar fingerpicking looks absolutely impossible yet it's impeccable!
I first saw him 4-5 years ago and immediately identified his technique as the greatest ever.
Matteo is the future for sure. So young with so much ability and character. 👍👍👍

I'm really excited for Mateus to see what material he releases. That first album hit me like a John Mcglaughlin or Al Di Meola album. Just complete mastery over the intsrument.

something in the air in the past 5 years. I've also nearly abandoned the pick altogether and started developing my fingerstyle technique in recent years without being aware that Matteo existed and was doing the same thing (only better, obviously)
Randy Rhoads was the last young gutair prodigy that was light years ahead as a player and (more so) in his songwriting abilities .Randy played his acoustic parts in his compositions like all classical guitar players .but this guy has taken it to a whole new level .

Early days to say if he'll create anything truly epic musically. Technically, one of the best to date though, no doubt about it.
This guy is the real deal, I have followed the world’s best guitarist for 55 years and he is by far the best guitarist I have ever heard in my life and there is no comparison.

Maurizio Solieri, Dodi Battaglia, Pino Daniele, Franco Cerri, Andrea Braido: Italy is the country of guitar. And Steve Vai, Al Di Meola, Rick Beato, Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, John Frusciante, Bonamassa, Jon Bon Jovi and many more...all people with italian roots. So, no surprise.

Vai nailed it IMO. There are so many players who can play lightening fast these days, but it's not clean and they are just repeating patterns. With Matteo, his playing is masterfully clean and every note is played with intention, feel and touch.

the new worlds greatest guitarist is someone that no one as ever herd of, not even most guitarists. I miss the days were our guitar hero's was writing the best music and everyone knew who they was
The best guitar players for me are the ones that create iconic memorable leads and riffs that become the lexicon of our music.
I was thinking the same. You don't need to be a virtuoso, you need to find the right hidden chords and notes for unforgettable music.

You mean just like Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Hendricks, Van Halen etc. They were young when they did what they did.
What I'm saying here is that, there are genius virtuosos, and then there are genius writers, my music professor told me once, "all the virtuoso artists would give their right hand to be able to write like the icons do". Which is quite a weird and incorrect opinion since a good player does not mean a good composer. Certainly Beethoven is not the best piano or violin player in history altough he was amongst the best composers fir both instruments. Genial outstanding players frequently never composed, Yehudi Menuhin to quote just one. Only in modern guitar and frequently rock there is that silly tendence to mix composing and playing with the absurd result that very bad players are considered very good guitarists because they compose beautiful solos or riffs. Being a virtuoso and mastering the instrument is what means being a great player. The rest is subjective useless opinions, generally by non musicians.

We certainly need more of that talented guitarist to continue keeping "guitar" in the forefront. It's almost as if he tapped in to universe and is able to channel any spirit of any great guitarist from the past, present and future :)
I have a vague memory of learning a Mateo Carcassi piece about 20 years back with and instruction for using all 4 fingers to repeat pick the same sting much like this Mateo seems to do, it was too awkward so i just used the same finger to pick the string 😂

He’s created his own style and technique. Like Jeff Beck, his individual style can only be truly played well, by him. Matteo is going to go down as one of the goats.

Sumándose son magnificas( ¿ como puede lograr tanta rapidez y claridad utilizando los dedos de la mano derecha ? - recuerdo q Jeff beck tampoco usaba pua - además puede tocar cualquier estilo( jazz blues etc) me he fijado en los bonitos acordes q emplea y en las progresiones de escalas . Siempre consigue algo bonito armonica y melodicamente lo q le diferencia por ko de cualquier otro guitarrista-,y solo tiene 26 años!!! .Desde q lo descubrí en you tube estoy conmocionad.,guau!!!!! Que bueno es el chaval!!! El dijo q jimi hendrix le influyó, pero su estilo nada tiene,q ver con hendrix . Tiene técnica, profundidad y lirismo. Y solo suena a él .no. se el modelo de guitarra que utiliza, pero es muy chulas y suena muy bien

New techniques are cool but are they “musical”? If they are then they are deserving of the accolades and hype! Just my opinion.
You know they say that you can't really determine who the best guitar player is which is true, but if you ask guitarists, most of them would agree that it is either Guthrie Govan or Matteo Mancuso.
