- As crime continues to climb across the city, the number of crime fighters continues to fall. “The police department now is spread thin trying to deal with a number of issues that are significant,” said local law enforcement expert and former FBI agent, Tyrone Powers.

The issue is the support. People don't want to do a job that a mistake can land them in jail or cause a riot. You gonna have to start paying the little officers you have more money and get back to 90s form policing. The Mayor cares more about racial issues then facing the real issues.
The riots are only caused by race hustling activist, when there's an opportunity scream racism and dumb black people follow along. Al Sharpton nor Ben crump will not come there because 12 people got shot in 12 hours or so. No white man involved. You people love Sharpton, but you only are valuable to him under the right set of circumstances. LMAO.

Harassment, sexual harassment, bullying, discrimination, micromanagement, etc. from supervisors to officers is one of many issues inside the department .

I left that hellhole a decade ago due to the corruption. I tried to fight it from inside and just got so stressed I cashed out my pension and walked away from policing altogether; best thing i ever did. Policies and command has changed, but what goes on never has and never will because of political influence. As long as commissioners come and go with the changing of mayors nothing can change. As a commissioner you are torn in multiple directions. Your personal beliefs of what is right and what the mayors office wants. Everyone wants crime reduced but it cant be done in the short term with hugs and smiles. In a world of liberal politics hugs for thugs doesn’t work. Lines will certainly get crossed.
Not worth it. My husband makes 79k starting pay WITHOUT overtime or holidays and NO RISK OF BEING SHOT.

I applied to BPD about 2 years ago. Due to family issues and a death in the family everything was placed on hold. They held my application for 2 years. Just recently I was able to attend the physical abilities or "fitness test" to begin the process. I drove 400 miles, stayed overnight in a hotel and attended the test the following morning and passed all their requirements. Two days after returning home, a detective called and asked me to fill out a new application since the one on file "expired". I did so diligently duplicating everything on the first application. Two more days pass and I receive a "permanent disqualification" email. So in short these assholes knew there was something in my background they didn't like or they didn't notice it until after I went through all that bullshit. However I checked their immediate dis qualifiers posted and none apply to me. Thanks for wasting all my time and money assholes! The worst law enforcement agency in U.S history has the balls to be judgemental. These hypocrites don't want to lower the bar a millimeter so they dis qualify 9 out of 10 applicants and due to law enforcement's reputation over the last few years no one wants to do the job. Then they actually have the nerve to bitch when they can't recruit or retain officers!
I applied took the test passed the test and filled out another application for them to say they regret to inform me but due to personal history I don’t meet their expectations… I didn’t even get an interview nor did I do the physical test

People will go voluntarily to search for an academy.
It's a desire to be a police officer, you can't force someone to become a police officer.
Recruiting can be a good tactic, but most of all people will go on there to find information to become a police officer
I passed everything but the color blind test…..I even went thru the oral interview board…..they took me to the unmarked cars to help my colorblind deficiencies, to no avail…..I was disqualified but understood why…..if a call came out with a certain description I’d be a liability….it was a true disappointment though, I really wanted to be a police officer
I don’t feel sorry for any law enforcement agencies. They were picky as hell in the 80 , 90 , early & mid 2000s , if u sneezed the wrong way u were disqualified. Now all of them are begging 😊.

The problem is "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink it" there are already LOTS of programs out there for them. I personally volunteered at BARCS animal shelter in Baltimore city, served my time in the Marine Corps and got a paid apprenticeship. I could go on forever about all the opportunities, below are some, but the people you and me see on these street corners DON'T WANT IT they'd rather sell drugs. Urban black culture is a big problem but you can't say that because it automatically labels you as racist. There's food pantries, boys and girls club, big brother big sister, housing rehabilitation training, make less than 40k a year quality for pell grant and go to Baltimore city community college 100% for free, church community outreach, nursing homes that need volunteers and provide free training, study for CDL permit pass the test and get a job driving buses, many paid apprenticeship programs, etc.
