  • XPRIZE founder Peter Diamandis on the biggest prize the world has ever seen - and why a successful outcome will mean we’ll all be winners.
On Wednesday, we reported on a new global competition announced at Global Healthspan Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. XPRIZE Healthspan aims to incentivize the development and testing of therapeutics to improve healthy aging, and it comes with an enormous encouragement - $101 million in prize money. The winning team will need to successfully develops a therapeutic that restores muscle, cognition and immune function by 20 years in older adults, and be able to demonstrate the results in a treatment period of one year or less.
Straight after the XPRIZE launch we were able to sit down with its founder Peter Diamandis and find out more about XPRIZE Healthspan’s evolution, how success will be measured and how he hopes it will break the mold in more ways than one.

They should provide funding for aging researchers, not just a prize at the end.

It is a little bit like that. Not one Team gets all the money at the end. Multiple Teams get supported, and there are stages. I guess the first stage every team gets 1 million. But obviously they have to show something before they get the funding.

If this can be accomplished in the next 20 years it would be beyond belief.

What’s the point of living if you’re going to be gone after just 80 years? We have to live forever if we’re going to be living to the distant future.

Peter is a futurenaut :) 🌠 Seeking longevity personally, as well as collectively.
It is like being an astronaut personally, and supporting human spaceflight collectively.

Any technologies that could increase longivity for 1 year, it is a great gift for human.

Think another 300 to 600 years on top of that 83 yr avg lifespan.

This decade...the next decade...the soonest the better this is all about.
This fantastic objective to solve aging could not have been envisaged at any other time before in human history.
Don't listen to all the denialist who accuse you being a coward,an egoist because you don't cope with aging.
Fuck senescence, fuck the nursing homes and all the old age diseases.
Something like this can't be trivial.
    It concern us all.
Whether we like it or not,

I just don't really think the future of humanity is a bunch of people wearing diapers in nursing homes, which is kind of where we're headed, unless something changes.

@mattalex8701 I fundamentally agree with everything you've just said I'm more than confident That affordable therapeutic interventions age reversal trials will be available at least in the next 10 15 years scientists like David a Sinclair and many others have to work out the kinks finishing touches and then cellular reprogramming and epigenetic reprogramming trials can begin on humans

I just don't think the peak of human civilization is shitting ourselves in diapers, and I'd rather not end up like that either.

It will not be cheap how will people age 65 to 80 afford that because it will probably cost millions or hundreds of thousands

    • @louiscomadena3230
      @louiscomadena3230 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@lucasbaatje4138 That's yet to be determined and what you are saying right now is just an option His friend Harvard professor & scientist Molecular Biologist Center of Aging Research has confirmed that the age reversal treatments will be the cost of groceries

The health costs for society in that age group and beyond are enormous..it will save massive amounts of money. Also costs will be drastically reduced over time

Sadly most Americans would not be willing to follow any regimen that required giving up donuts and beer even if it added healthy years to their life.

Unless you stay 20 years old forever, then all the donuts and beer in the world don't have any effect ;)
