'We already know consumers want a new arena of healthcare'
Ahead of Longevity Investors Conference, Andrea Maier talks industry standards, building out clinical practice and longevity matchmaking.
The Longevity Investors Conference (LIC) is set to return to the stunning Swiss town of Gstaad from 24th to 27th September, drawing an exclusive gathering of investors, scientists and entrepreneurs. This fifth edition promises an extended agenda packed with keynotes, panels and numerous networking opportunities. With a focus on cutting-edge innovations in healthspan, biotech and rejuvenation technologies, LIC aims to drive collaboration and spark dialogue between industry pioneers. Attendees will have the chance to engage with world-renowned longevity experts and dive deep into the latest scientific advancements shaping the future of healthy aging.
This year’s LIC stands out not only for its impressive lineup of speakers but also for its immersive experience, blending thought-provoking sessions with ample opportunities for relationship-building. From informal networking lunches to intimate evening receptions, the event fosters a unique atmosphere where participants can exchange insights, explore investment opportunities, and discuss emerging trends. With a growing emphasis on topics like AI applications in biohacking and the evolving longevity economy, LIC is poised to be a cornerstone event for the global longevity community, accelerating innovation and investment in the sector.
Longevity is very much focused on prevention, being, of course, far better than cure! One of the keenly-anticipated presentations speaks to this: Longevity Clinics: The Next Frontier in Preventive Care, which will be presented by Professors Andrea Maier and Evelyne Bischof. We sat down with Oon Chiew Seng Professor in Medicine, Healthy Ageing and Dementia Research at National University of Singapore and Co-Director Centre for Healthy Longevity, Andrea B Maier to discuss the conference and more.

Metformin, despite early promise, has not really extended life. Berberine might. Lots of phony berberine on the market though. I suspect Biphosphinates may be helping because bone wasting releases a lot of lead we breathed in from auto exhaust decades ago. Low level lead has been shown to likely cause 412,000 American deaths a year. That was in The Lancet Public Health in 2018. If that is true, it will be more effective in places where there was greater exposure. GLP-1 inhibitors are great at reducing fructose in the brain. And the fructose is one of the drivers of dementia. Only small amounts of fructose get to the brain via the blood...somehow the brain is converting glucose to fructose when glucose is high.

SGLT2i has good data from UK biobank and ITP. GLP-1 is just caloric restriction. Nir has been peddling metformin for years on weak evidence. Doesn't look like it's working for him.

Probably true but metformin (which has been around long time) works partly via increasing AMPK and so does Chinese herb (gynema) which has been around hundreds of years and Berberine (also been around on herb firm long time).

The idea that ONLY patentable drugs and drugs still on patent have utility; that the only drug that has any positive effect on longevity will come from a company in the drug cartel. His company only produces drugs that are patentable and make him money. His advice has some fundamental bias.

If it's possible to reattach nerves below the cervical spine, then theoretically, it could be feasible to reattach them within the cranial cavity. This raises the question: why not replace the brain entirely, or even partially? Since both bodies remain viable, this would imply that if the brains were 'wired together,' both could sustain life, even when disconnected from one body temporarily, like a headless chicken. But would these two neural signals conflict with each other? The signals from the spinal cord and below don't carry personality traits, correct? They are more like generic signals. Therefore, if we could determine how to repair and replace brain tissue without losing these vital signals, the process would be much easier instead of reataching many different types of body instead just 1 or 2 inside the head.

For example, one can live longer but might get long covid, or be infertile from all the endocrine disruptors in the environment, or tissue damage from all the plastics in the food, air, water, etc... Or living longer but with less nutritious food because of soil nutrient depletion, or living longer with more extreme weather and AMOC collapse. or longevity and civilization collapse?

For many of us (Me) currently enjoying great health on a very low>no carb diet, any positive news involving saturated fats is always a bonus. When I eat, I am simply fueling my body with complete, nutritionally dense foods. So my curiosity was how does C15 arrive at my doorstep using the fatty foods I currently eat as fuel...since I feel so good. I think the research is still too early on C15 for it to now be needing supplementation to a mega dosing level. Every new biological revelation doesn't need to be monetized or get it's own million dollar IPO. And I don't necessarily want to live FOREVER! If I am this healthy up to the point of my death, that's good with me. EAT...MEAT...REPEAT...!
