@@TheRezro well that's more reasonable then the a few hundred meter/s speed limit for the space ship because it's some federation regulation for pilot's safety. Also in game lore.
It's not for everyone, but I really like Elite. It's sort of what I always wanted games from my childhood like X-Wing Fighter and Colony Wars to be. A massive open galaxy to explore or even conquer. Also, gotta get busy running Onionhead and Lave Brandy to afford a new Krait Phantom.
Rebel Galaxy now has a pre-sequel in the works that's focused on fighters. Looks pretty good, especially for $30. The guy uploaded an hour long video of pure gameplay.
Yeah, I want to really like Elite but I just can't. The main problem I have with it is the way combat and player interaction works. We have such a huge galaxy and play area, but players interaction and combat is always confined to a small spot. I loved Battlestar Galactica Online so much because combat could happen from huge distances with many ships and strategy involved. You'd have support ships playing Electronic Warfare, you'd have bigger ships drawing fire and shooting cannons, and you'd have fighters launching nukes or intercepting huge missiles. The scale was simply awesome and it was so much dynamic even with its flaws. Now in ED, although space is "huge" there, every player interaction is close quarters, like playing ArmA but only being able to get in combat with enemy players in a COD like environment. Every combat is a dogfight in ED, your maximum detection range is just a joke and even worse are the actual weapon firing ranges. I remember having my small fighter froze between some asteroids and behind enemy lines in Battlestar Galactica while relying intel to friendly units about an enemy group that started flaking them. I also could not lock the enemy ships or they'd get a warning, possibly spotting me. That felt so stealthy satisfying. Elite had so much potential for this depth and dynamic type of interaction, had it been different in its core. I just can't like this same "jump on top of ships" only type of combat we have, it's always the same thing and gets boring very quickly
@@ArcherAC3 There are so many other games where I can blow things to bits, I kinda ignore that aspect in Elite unless I am forced to. There is a lot more to that game than combat and PvP content, otherwise I wouldn't be playing. But well, if that's the only thing you are interested in in a game, Elite may not be what you are looking for.
My theory about sound in science fiction shows like Star Trek is that their sensors use light to detect vibrations in objects and simulate what sounds those vibrations would make if there was air.
Cool idea. You'd probably need coherent light, aka light emitted from your ship with known phase, and you wouldnt use visible light, you'd use microwaves or radio-waves. Added feature to this is if your ship is in stealth mode, you wont be able to hear anything, as transmitting microwaves isn't a very good way to stay stealthy.
I think I am done with Elite Dangerous. Until they add space-legs. I mean they are doing a great job keeping the game going, but playing since... I wanna say before fed/imp ships were a thing, it's just so boring now. I have explored, gone to Beagle Point and Colonia. I have mined, fully optimized Type-9 and made a good amount of credits. I transported passengers, probably the most profitable thing ever. I have gone one man army Python and overthrown entire systems into chaos. I have retired to a life of smuggling and minor combat in a Krait, my favorite ship so far. But I blown most of my credits on insurance from Thargoids and I am done. I don't know, great game, recommend people play it. But take some breaks after you achieve your goals. Get the ship you are going for, fly it around than play something else.
Why aren't you upvoted more? You are the only person in these comments that is leaving Elite because you truly and honestly did everything there is to do in it. No complaining, no bitching about the lack of space legs (we all want it) and you even said you had fun. It really bugs me that so many people leave negative reviews on the game and they only barely scratched the surface. It plays like a MMO; you have to work towards getting what you want, and I mean you'll have to WORK towards it. The fun comes from the reward and you'll feel accomplished for getting it. (Though, it'll probably help if Frontier stops trying to sell the game as an action game. >.>)
I’m just trying to get the Anaconda and join in huge battle between the Imperial and Federation then I’ll take a break till they add atmospheric landing or space legs. All I’m asking is not huge for space legs I’m not asking to walk in space station or planets but maybe walking inside your ship would really great.
@@haijin7484 Yeah, in terms of the stations, I am thinking like X4 Foundations. Not inside all the workings, but little stalls and motor ways, never really out of sight from your ship. That would be perfect for stations. Planets would be tough but ships would be easy to implement.
I’m excited to jump into this game now in 2019, given it a lot of thought and a lot of time to perfect/add certain qualities. I’ll take your word for it, there’s quite a lot to do and even more to work towards, but I’ll take note of your recommendations. And honestly your comment was spot on. Sounds like you’ve lived elite, and you’ve lived dangerously, and now after years of scouring the galaxy for violence and profit, you’re now somewhere in the universe patiently waiting for the next big event, or to die after a life time of adventure and hardship. Cheers, and wish me luck.
Sounds like you've had a lonely experience. One man army? How about an army? But yeah, I agree. So many games these days seem not to have an end, so I think it's important to define your own end.
It’s in a pretty good state now. Mining and exploration were some of the weakest gameplay features, and now they’ve been greatly strengthened. Apparently this upcoming season is going to overhaul power-play, introduce large scale multiplayer options like fleet carriers, Introduce atmospheric worlds etc.
almost, i got bored after half an hour, only actual real gameplay difference is clicking on planets to discover them and mining rockets/charges ... im not bashing or anything, i enjoyed the game for over 2000 hours.
I'm glad you mix it up with games every once in a while. I got started watching your videos through kerbal. Love everything you do. Thanks for the education and entertainment!
Just wanna say, you make some of the best space stuff Scott. Always interesting, always enthusiastic, it brings pleasant memories of wanting to go to space as a kid and keeps that over the moon space ecstaticism within me alive.
Guess I am going to have to setup my HOTAS again so I can get back out and explore a bit more now that this update has been released. Looking forward to it actually. Thanks Scott.
Space legs won't happen for a very long time. Without any gameplay to go with it it will get stale really fast and people like you would complain again. It's so hard to please everyone!
People like me?? Blimey. I was an original backer and have spent over 1,000 hours in the game. I'm not complaining I'm just saying that I'm waiting for a feature that was promised years ago.
yep. just look at x4 foundations, the walking around bits are super limited and small. but it gives the world and the game so much that you can walk around in parts and look at the scale of things and get more perspective. really enriches it. absolutely the feature I want the most, walking around ship interiors and making the ship a home.
Try playing it in VR it's gorgeous, the experience is incomparable to the flat screen :D. I bought the VR set only because i saw elite and i was blown away. Best VR experience so far.
My first VR experience was trying Elite Alpha 0.3 on a Rift DK1 that Frontier themselves were demoing at a UK games expo. It hooked me onto ED (of course!) and VR in general. Elite is way better in VR- because you're IN the cockpit!
looking forward to Zuckerberg's VR set which is rumored to come out in 2-3 months and cost just about $200 and not require a smartphone... Then I will be into it.
@@aaalllfff Hate tu burst your bubble, but Oculus Quest is going to cost 400$, and it's going to support Oculus Go/Gear VR grade software (bit better graphics), so no PC connectivity. Unless you are talking about Oculus Go which costs about 200$, and is already out for some time now - no PC connectivity there also. If you got a decent/powerful PC I suggest you try getting a WMR headset like Lenovo Explorer. You can get pretty awesome deals on it right now, and from personal experience I can tell you it's great entry level PC VR. Side note: for E:D the best WMR would be Samsung Odyssey because it has oled screen = the black of the sky is superb (other WMR's have led screens so blacks are actually okay-grayish).
@@q23main thanks a lot for your detailed answer! I haven't been following VR technology in a while and now thanks to your answer I realize I can get a WMR headset for just about those $200 I was aiming at! And we're not even talking about a stand-alone "fake VR" set, but a fully fledged, PC connected, Steam compatible VR set! Amazing! So I just ran the Microsoft compatibility tool to check if my system specs are compatible with WMR and all tests passed! Great! :) But I am still wondering... how those costly VR sets like the HTC Vive compare to WMR headsets? I mean, does a WMR device actually offers the same VR features, at such a lower price point? Or is there a catch? I am not interested in a graphics quality comparison or FOV level comparison as I assume HTC Vive might still be better at that... but I am more interested in trying to understand whether or not WMR visors offer FULL VR (e.g. full room tracking). If so, how is it possible that FULL VR systems like HTC Vive require monstrous PC builds and WMR devices don't? Can't really wrap my mind about that...! Anyway... thanks again for taking the time to wake me up! :) Now I know It won't take long before I will be diving into breathtaking virtual spaces ;)
You didn't even mentioned the Orrery View of the Systems. (Or i missed it.) For me although it is pretty basic, one of the coolest features of the Update.
I’m extremely glad this appeared on my TH-cam notifications.....it reminds me I have enemy((ies)) the later is much more probable) other than myself!! I really appreciate helping me focus on that.
I hope you always make videos about space games. It's nice to see a true nerd pointing out the science behind everything.. and that's one of the things I've loved about Elite since Frontier, y'know. Sure I'm flying around enjoying the bleeps and clicks and engine noises and views, being a space tourist, but also a lot of the things I learn about Elite are real things (I learned the term AU as a teenager from Frontier, the classifications of stars, felt the size of solar systems (more keenly in Dangerous), learned their names, and today the names of the galactic regions.) I can be exploring a rocky planet around a pulsar in the Inner Orion Spur, and who knows? It might be out there. Humans might go there some day. This is my galaxy, and this is how it feels to fly around it in a super advanced spaceship at 1 to 1 scale.. or as near as we can manage in a game right now. It's hard to really relate how it feels to fly to the edge of the galaxy, watching huge nebulae approaching, get a sense of how far you are from earth, and having no more stars ahead. And sure, cockpit feel is nice and pew pew is fun too.
This is such a massive improvement in exploration! Previous system was really unsatisfying not only because it was tedious, but also because you had no reason to actually *look* at the planet closely: all you want is to scan that bright dot and go forth. This made admiring all the beauty of the planets a waste of your time. But now it's different, and i am so glad. Probably even enough to start playing again.
Thank you for this video, Scott. Nice to see internet spaceships once in a while! Nice change of features, a mixed bag but in a good way. While annoying slightly that things are changing/changed since you put a lot of effort into something, it should make things more interesting. It will be cool to "relearn" some things to do in Dangerous.
It's crazy how this game is almost a decade old, but looks amazing in VR on my 4090. I slept on cockpit games in general until I tried one in VR, and it's a total game changer. Enough to go and buy a HOTAS too. And now I've been practically living in this game the last couple weeks, fine tuning my Vulture into a bounty hunting machine.
They have set up a character custumization: Holo-me it just says "for future funcionality" or Something like that, so i belive it is planned. But then agian a Market ED targets is desktop vr. And that is hard to do right
@@Lolgamerfreak Its not planned. Its not coming. The ships arent even to scale and some use modules too big to even fit inside the ship (Sidewinder and Vehicle bays). Its been five years. ITs not happening.
My brother just got me into it on PS4 and it's pretty great. You can do whatever you want and succeed and it's great. For example I'm making my fortune flying passengers all over. I didn't realize quite how big everything is until I saw how far people might want to go lol.
I'm not worried about the explosions having sound, in large part because some flavour text explains it away as just an audible translation of sensor data, added standard to every cockpit in part because pilots used to go insane from the silence of space and fly into stars.
It's a mess. It takes a lot of learning to get into that game plus if you want to build amazing ships with cool features you basically have to learn how to code. So not a very user friendly game, That's for sure.
Drakey Fenix in reality, a lot can be done with timer blocks... it’s about as complex as any other game would be if it gives you this freedom. Just imagine - you can create cool setups with timer blocks for opening things - and the devs decided to put a - make it do whatever you want - block as well.
The new mining and exploration mechanics are amazing, nevermind all the new phenomena and stuff to find! lol, Scott... Missing all the fissures because of the T9's offset hardpoints... THE STRUGGLE IS REAL.😂 I'm so happy that they added the feature I wanted to the FSS scanner; the option to have the FSS mapped to an analog axis in absolute mode instead of relative. (So you can literally have a 1:1 tuner dial on your control panel)
I just feel frustrated that in order to fully experience the new mining mechanics, we *need* to field a wide array of different hardpoints and internals, as well as that darn pulse wave scanner. It's like they didn't think at all to augment or alter existing modules, but just add new ones for every new mechanic. But that's Esoteric Design, for you.
@@KiithnarasAshaa as far as i can see this for maximum efficency mining including all types you need at least two ships ... a dedicated propector/lazorbitch in a smaller nimble ship and hauler with massive cargo and refinery space in one of the big ships. The big ships are way to sluggish to reliably hit the nodes an fractures on quick rotating roids (not to mention the hardpoint offset struggle).
What do you think is the best way to map your new controls for this?and do you have a remap makeup for yourself for everything or just kept it the same, thanks for your help
For those looking for space legs. Try No Man's Sky if you haven't already. It has a lot of things I wish were in Elite. Another option for those that are bored, play Avorion. I didn't even know it existed until a couple of weeks ago. Reminds me a lot of the original Elite except you get to build your own ships, very underrated game...
Elite is just kinda a hollow game to me. Then again, the last time I played it was before planet surfaces... There's not a whole lot of interesting stuff to it after like 20 hours imHo. I mainly did bounty hunting and the ai was just a bit weird... it kinda detracted from the fun. That all being said, it's a very good EXPERIENCE. It's very sharp, but also kinda empty, while also having a lot of slightly out-of-place generated ships and stations. It's great that they're still updating it! The biggest issue I have though is that they've split up features behind paywalls, such as planet surfaces.
I totally agree with you! But Elite Dangerous is a game in constant developement. According to Frontier there are planned 10 years of development and updates. And in my opinion Frontier is doing a great job. There's a lot of nice new stuff to do since the last time you have played. I think you must consider play again, the chances of you enjoy are great!
they fucked up hard by putting the planet surfaces behind a paywall for existing players but not new ones - transparent ploy to get me to spend more on a 'sunk cost'
Apart from the planetary landing expansion, all other content in ED has been free. Its a bit harsh to accuse it of using pay walls. For example this update is free and adds a massive amount to the game. Considering the game has been out for several years and only had 1 DLC which is very cheap to buy now, and virtually given away if you buy the game from scratch. Its pretty hard to make a case for paywalls. You would probably get more value for money of you gave I another go. Its a very different game than a few years ago. Everything looks better, there is more to do, its easier to progress. Good luck.
Speaking as someone who was so fed up with the state of the game a year ago, told off the developers and the community in a grandly offensive fashion and quit, I can assure you that a year ago the game would have been barely recognizable to someone who quit in the first year. This update is "Almost" enough to bring me back, but I want to see what the next season brings first, and this update changes/adds a serious amount of content. Splitting content is just going to happen to this game, sadly. Their ambitions are high and their budget is, compared to their ambitions, very low. It's just an economic fact that they're going to have to release certain pieces of content as expansions to keep funding the seasons. Cosmetic microtransactions aren't enough. I don't mean EA or Activision "Not enough" either. It's a niche game, they don't have hundreds of thousand of people jumping on every new skin that hits the market.
Game is different in many, many ways now opposed to Y1. It's been 3 years. Also a "paywall" is a horrible way to look at any situation. Like saying you can't understand why magazines or newspapers "paywall" people before they can read their news. Transactions for desired goods have and always will be a part of life. They didn't "paywall" landings, you simply don't value planetary landings at the prices they offer, which goes towards bettering the game (been as low as $10 sometimes).
what about the gas in the cockpit? does the wave of an explotion in space propagate but does not vibrate until they hit the cockpit which has gas for the pilot to breath? A more realistic question, if a grenade explode outside of the ISS do the astronauts ear it once the waves hit the bulkhead of the ISS in which there is oxygen since astronauts need to breath?
I assume it's an auditory simulation. If a sound hits a new medium all at once, like a shockwave hitting the cockpit, it produces a frequency too high for humans to hear.
There's nothing in the vacuum of space to propagate the sound waves. You need a medium for the sound wave to travel through. Upshot, no the astronauts wouldn't hear anything, except particles hitting the space station.
When an explosive goes off the explosive material is turned into gas and expands rapidly. This expansion pushes air away from the explosion and that's what creates the wave which we hear as sound and feel as pressure. If their is no air there is nothing to push and so there is no wave which means no sound. However if you're close enough to a big enough space explosion the actual cloud of gasified explosive could potentially hit your ship and shake the walls which would then shake the air which makes a wave that you can hear. I don't know if its actually possible to be close enough to a big enough explosion to do this with out being too close to survive. For you're ISS example i think the only way for the astronauts to really "hear" the explosion would be if the grenade was right against the ISS and then you would just be blowing a hole in the ship.
@@Valen-vl5ds Agree-ed, if very close you would most likely hear something. Further out, the sphere of gas would rapidly loose air pressure as the volume / size increased. Secondly, the speed of sound would probably be faster than the the sphere of air could expand, the sound wave would probably bounce around loosing its energy.
You guys are aware space has a density of 1 hydrogen atom per cubic centimeter right? It's not a real vaccum that doesn't exist. Large explosions nearby can VERY WELL be heard. Especially since it's literally gas expanding.
Funny story - space is really big, and light has this funky inverse-square relationship of intensity to distance. Ships do have headlights, but one needs to be relatively close for them to really have any noticeable effect.
@@KiithnarasAshaa Yeah, but if it even vaguely obeys real-world physics, the power output of a ship capable of interstellar travel is going to be so high it should be easily visible for several lightyears. Plus the actual engine thrust alone... That's going to be very bright indeed...
Those engines are bright in x-rays, not visible light. Most minerals absorb x-rays instead of reflecting them, so your rocket flashlight can't work very well. Actually, they can't be too bright, otherwise they'd melt the engine and overheat the ship. (This is one of the challenges facing nuclear rocket engineers in real life. Sure, nuclear gives you awesome thrust *and* exhaust velocity, but how do you keep all that energy to itself?) A proper engine won't look bright unless you're standing in the exhaust.
Funny thing about Newtonian Physics Bobcat, light disperses in relation to the distance traveled. Also, someone suggested the light from the engines should be enough to light up the planet a little, but they failed to realize that engines, especially main thrust engines are only used for major course corrections or deceleration/acceleration burns. Maneuvering thrusters typically only use gas and not rocket engine type thrust as there doesn't need to be that much force to alter your direction in the small increments required to movement around a planet. Oh and contrary to movies, while flying in your spaceship, your engines are not on all the time. They only ignite for the burns that are required and then shut back off.
As far as I understand Elite ships are not driven by fusion torches at all. They are powered by some kind of fusion but the thrusters are not pure fusion plasma or anything. I mean you fire your main engine inside habitable space ports. I suspect they're loosely modeled on ion thrusters or something.
I really like ED, and I recently bought a hotas to play it, but it still needs more things to do. I mean, more planets to land, space legs, EVA. It would be cool if, instead of just scanning an abandoned spaceship, if you could EVA and board it to scavenge, or maybe have a few fights with some alien or pirates.
Hi Scott how’s the update going for you on PC as loads of people on the PS4 format are having severe problems with lag crashes and save data/their account been corrupted etc. It’s stopped a lot of CMDRS playing and giving up on the game
This is my favorite VR game where you can spend hours and do many things and relax. Many people didnt get it what is ED about and always crying loud about content and EVA and space legs and i feel sorry for them because this game is not about all those things its different than other games. This new features are really cool i did test them on beta server alot and i cant wait.
Well i dont feel it that way. I take it more like space fly sim than MMORPG or something. I fly DCS and there is basically nothing to do except flying and i love it as well. Every game is grinding sim pretty much. I would love to see strong and complex economy like in EVE online but its very complicated and it wont happen here. I dont know what you want different in terms of grind and reward ?.
This game would be something for me if I could heavily customize my spaceship interior and exterior by earning lots of money finding cool and rare stuff in the universe and trade it or use it to build engines and weapons etc.
Ecci Ecci besides the interior and exterior visual customization ( its there but it costs real world money, very little of it mind you) everything else you just said sums up what you do in elite
Simple question for people playing this atm: Are the big ships still locked behind percentage bars which take ages to fill? I got all the small and medium ships i wanted, hit the mentioned gameplay wall and uninstalled. Hence my question. I would love to start playing again, but i dont have hours upon hours each week to unlock a big ship eventually.
There’s only a handful of ships locked behind faction ranks - notably the Federal Corvette and Imperial Cutter, but anyone can buy the Anaconda, Beluga, Type-9 and Type 10 defender. I haven’t unlocked the faction ships, I’m more interested in taking the Asp & Anaconda and tuning them up with engineers.
I've been waiting for mining overhaul. There are two good ways for space mining to be; either "zone out and mine everything" and even though the stuff you got wasn't that valuable the volume of it and lack of effort made it worthwhile, or "make it complex but very lucrative". Before, mining was too complex to zone out to, but not lucrative enough for the time you needed to spend to target the good stuff. (Running passenger missions was _way_ better both in effort and in monetary return.) I'm hoping to find it more fun now. The other reason I stopped playing was that grinding materials for upgrades took waaaay too long. Seems like they might have made at least the planetary stuff a bit easier.
I started playing this game just weeks ago cause of your videos. I fell in love instantly. EVE had gotten boring to me. I I had no idea this big release was even coming up.
@@guilleratcon4357 they're very similar. EVE is based on the earlier games in the Elite series so a lot of mechanics are similar or reminiscent, however there's way more player interaction in EVE and there are many more mechanics in place for that. E:D has a lot more to do with exploration, although the combat is still quite fun and engaging and PVP is still allowed just as much as in EVE. There's no player driven market in Elite, most flying is manual and having a joystick helps a lot...
One major difference is that Elite has a solo play mode which is exactly the same as open play except with no other players, and a private group mode, and progress carries over between all of them.
@@mscheese000 I was asking precisely that, if it has an open market and player driven world which are things that I absolutely love about eve. Thanks :)
Unfortunately, the new Asteroid mining requires four additional module types (Pulse Wave Scanner, Abrasion Blaster, Subsurface Missiles, and Seismic Charges) on top of at least collector and prospector limpets as well as a detailed surface scanner, sufficient cargo to hold all of your limpets, and separate controls for all of these modules. For me to be engaged and interested in the new mining mechanics, I would *require* the following from Frontier: - The function of the Pulse Wave Scanner incorporated into the Detailed Surface Scanner. You aren't going to be able to effectively use the new mining mechanics without a DSS anyway, so needing an extra module to scan for hot asteroids is more complicated than necessary. - The three mining weapons could be combined into a single module with multiple modes, e.g. Explosive Mining Multitool. The heads-down display could cycle the EMM between its various modes, especially since the heads-down display is, I feel, woefully under-utilized. - Existing mining lasers should be able to perform everything that the EMM could do, albiet at less efficiency or with more player skill required. For instance, the default mining laser mode could be configured for Subsurface Rupture, heating pockets and rupturing the minerals out in small clouds, but the yields won't be as much as if one used an EMM in Subsurface Blast mode. - The scan mode for minerals (via Pulse Wave Scanner or incorporated in the DSS) needs a configurable option to select the types of minerals you're looking for, rather than just any mineral at all. Asteroids can and should have mixed compositions, but finding an asteroid with a higher-than-average concentration of a desired mineral should be something players can do without having to go P-limpet every single orange or not-orange asteroid. - Fracturable asteroids need to be significantly more common, any asteroid over a certain size/mass, and with an average distribution of one every 20km or so. I responded with these points on the Beta feedback forum, but it was, naturally, ignored by most other players and, consequently, development staff. (Also a single type of Drone Bay module [sizes 1,3,5,7, grades E-A] to replace existing limpet controllers with its own internal Limpet storage and multiple potential Controller modules - larger bays could fit more controllers and limpets - would be a very welcome addition for mining and other activities.) Other than that, Chapter 4 looks pretty fantastic : )
Not to mention why can't limpets re-dock to refuel ... they are basiccly worthless (money wise) and are only useless bloat to the gameplay mechanic. You could bring like 20 of them in case some of them gest destroyed and field with the biggest bay 6 at a time.
@@DonTekNO well, I would be fine with re-docking limpets if nothing else were changed with them. My main two contentions are that they take such significant cargo space and that synthesis for them is absurdly expensive (synthesis in general could use a balance pass, to be honest). The drone bay concept resolves both of these points; it gives them their own separate storage, and synthesis would restore half or all of that storage, making the recovery of certain limpet modes unnecessary, and others only marginally beneficial - I wouldn't say no at that point, but I wouldn't feel punished if they weren't.
I really really wish they'd just implement the motion control into elite, so I can use my hands to manipulate the displays, rather than the million of buttons I require currently

It is hysterical watching the difference in game play between Scott here and the guys over at Node who came upon and slaughtered a funeral procession.
And then they never touched the game again lmao.
I'm assuming they're 12 year olds?
My theory about sound in science fiction shows like Star Trek is that their sensors use light to detect vibrations in objects and simulate what sounds those vibrations would make if there was air.
I dig it.
@@yorkshire_tea_innit8097 So similar to using active sonar in a submarine. Cool.
I'm almost inclined to start playing again.
Almost...
It’s in a pretty good state now. Mining and exploration were some of the weakest gameplay features, and now they’ve been greatly strengthened.
Apparently this upcoming season is going to overhaul power-play, introduce large scale multiplayer options like fleet carriers, Introduce atmospheric worlds etc.
almost, i got bored after half an hour, only actual real gameplay difference is clicking on planets to discover them and mining rockets/charges ...
im not bashing or anything, i enjoyed the game for over 2000 hours.
don't save yourself the shitfest and get X4 foundations.
@@Choice777 and never expect to be able to land on planets because "X4 is a space empire simulation". No thanks.
I'm glad you mix it up with games every once in a while. I got started watching your videos through kerbal. Love everything you do. Thanks for the education and entertainment!
Being able to listen to the lore in a playlist is actually really awesome.
I have been playing about a month and loving every minute of it!
Didnt knew this game
Thanks Scott :p

get X4 foundations or no mans sky.
@@Choice777 What? Neither of those games support VR, and elite is by far one of the best VR experiences available.

I just bought this game today on sale. I'm super excited, and I have a oculus rift that I can use as well. Soon as I get a joystick
I'm still waiting for atmospheric landings and space legs.
*Elite Feet.

Have you looked at the latest Stellaris update? I always miss your streams on the game, so I don't know. If you have, how do you feel about it?
You can see archived streams on his twitch channel, he has few hours with new expansion already.
Great! :)
But I am still wondering... how those costly VR sets like the HTC Vive compare to WMR headsets? I mean, does a WMR device actually offers the same VR features, at such a lower price point? Or is there a catch? I am not interested in a graphics quality comparison or FOV level comparison as I assume HTC Vive might still be better at that... but I am more interested in trying to understand whether or not WMR visors offer FULL VR (e.g. full room tracking). If so, how is it possible that FULL VR systems like HTC Vive require monstrous PC builds and WMR devices don't? Can't really wrap my mind about that...! Anyway... thanks again for taking the time to wake me up! :) Now I know It won't take long before I will be diving into breathtaking virtual spaces ;)
alfiozzz just got a windows mixed reality set for only $300 CAD works pretty well especially for the price
Right before you mentioned the sound I was thinking that asteroid popping was really well done.
I miss your elite videos. Thanks for shaking my hand at the expo in the uk last year.
I don't play _Elite,_ and I probably never will, but I love these videos! Can't get enough!
don't feel bad, Scott - I've spent a ton on cosmetics in the game to support FDev and the advancement of the game. This update seems pretty great.

Okay, that's badass.
You didn't even mentioned the Orrery View of the Systems. (Or i missed it.)
For me although it is pretty basic, one of the coolest features of the Update.
My internet was gone for 6 months and you do this elite... HELL YAH!
I've certainly had my money's worth of enjoyment from ED, it's just quite relaxing for me to roam around doing a bit of this and that.
I’m extremely glad this appeared on my TH-cam notifications.....it reminds me I have enemy((ies)) the later is much more probable) other than myself!! I really appreciate helping me focus on that.
I would play this if it were a non war game & if it were on Apple....other that that no way!!
You ROCK!
The sound design is the best in the genre.
I hope you always make videos about space games. It's nice to see a true nerd pointing out the science behind everything.. and that's one of the things I've loved about Elite since Frontier, y'know. Sure I'm flying around enjoying the bleeps and clicks and engine noises and views, being a space tourist, but also a lot of the things I learn about Elite are real things (I learned the term AU as a teenager from Frontier, the classifications of stars, felt the size of solar systems (more keenly in Dangerous), learned their names, and today the names of the galactic regions.)
I can be exploring a rocky planet around a pulsar in the Inner Orion Spur, and who knows?
It's actually really excellent
Thank you for this video, Scott. Nice to see internet spaceships once in a while!
Nice change of features, a mixed bag but in a good way. While annoying slightly that things are changing/changed since you put a lot of effort into something, it should make things more interesting. It will be cool to "relearn" some things to do in Dangerous.
I just started playing. Looking forward to going through all of your videos.
If we ever launch Voyager 3 we should put David Bowie songs on it
Nah man I hate David Bowie's music, humanity has much better to offer.
@Dante S Not only the classics, but even amongst modern music there is much better out there than David Bowie.
Pantera.
Or what about some queen? I’m sure even the aliens would have to appreciate some Freddie mercury.
We should put Despacito on it.
I love your space news vids, but it’s always fun to see you zipping around in a sci-fi rig 💜
This is very informative and sincere. Congratulations.

Love watching your videos Scott. Keep it up!

The space sounds are simulated by the ship from sensor data and piped into the cockpit to inrease pilot awareness.
Ive had my Anaconda waiting in ship bay with explore fitting for this new update!
The day I can get out of my vehicle and walk around as a person is the day I get into ED.
I dont even want anything to DO on foot. I just want to walk around the space station/planets to feel like im actually a pilot and not a ship.
They have set up a character custumization: Holo-me it just says "for future funcionality" or Something like that, so i belive it is planned. But then agian a Market ED targets is desktop vr. And that is hard to do right

I don't know, I heard of its release. It's out drm free too on GOG.
My brother just got me into it on PS4 and it's pretty great. You can do whatever you want and succeed and it's great. For example I'm making my fortune flying passengers all over. I didn't realize quite how big everything is until I saw how far people might want to go lol.
Made a break from Elite in 2016 and never played since. Now is the Time to come back :D
Very looking forward to it. The tensions are tearing me apart. xD
Nice end-of-video music Mr Manley! : p
I'm not worried about the explosions having sound, in large part because some flavour text explains it away as just an audible translation of sensor data, added standard to every cockpit in part because pilots used to go insane from the silence of space and fly into stars.
Have you ever tried playing Space Engineers? I think its something that would be right up your alley.
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL.😂
I'm so happy that they added the feature I wanted to the FSS scanner; the option to have the FSS mapped to an analog axis in absolute mode instead of relative.
Dude - I just love the voice.
Have you tried the X4: Foundations, it looks like a pretty cool game.
Yep, takes a long time to make a video
im missing a story mode getting you into the game. but im really happy i picked it up and i want to get a htc vive now
what about the gas in the cockpit? does the wave of an explotion in space propagate but does not vibrate until they hit the cockpit which has gas for the pilot to breath?
Beyond Dangerous Chapter 4 Elite... Time to dust of my hotas, rift and diamondback.

for light sources in Elite Dangerous wouldn't the fusion torches on the back of almost every ship in the game provide enough light?
I actually rather love th fact that I'm no-one in ED. It's always interesting to read the news lol x
It’s been great, but I haven’t logged into my PS4.
What? Planets are finally dark on the night side? Omg, Frontier, FINALLY!!! OK, i forgive you for the other stuff. For a while.
A like for mentioning Voyager 2! Cheers!!!

Scott do you have a good keyboard layout for elite dangerous
Haven't played ED for a long time, is it finally possible to change the hud colors ingame?
Only by hacks.
What do you think of the most recent No Man's Sky updates? Have you played it recently?
Is it better or is it just another type of game? I'm noob at EVE
For me to be engaged and interested in the new mining mechanics, I would *require* the following from Frontier:
- The function of the Pulse Wave Scanner incorporated into the Detailed Surface Scanner.
(Also a single type of Drone Bay module [sizes 1,3,5,7, grades E-A] to replace existing limpet controllers with its own internal Limpet storage and multiple potential Controller modules - larger bays could fit more controllers and limpets - would be a very welcome addition for mining and other activities.)
Other than that, Chapter 4 looks pretty fantastic : )
Says: "I'm flying a Lakon Type-9" and does not say HEAVY .....
HERESY!!!
I really really wish they'd just implement the motion control into elite, so I can use my hands to manipulate the displays, rather than the million of buttons I require currently
I recently started playing Stellaris thanks to you! XD Don't get me hooked on another game, man...
2:51 Scott BURNS ED and SC for having non Newtonian physics in their game. So good, too.
To ED and SC. HEY! Get your shit together! Newtonian physics is life. If I get re-entry effects at slower than mach 22, I'm not happy.
Boys..... VR makes this game worth playing ❤️👍🏻
How fast will that Zorgon Pterson Mamba do the Kessel run?
How do I apply the beyond patch ? I recently bought the base game and horizon .. thanks
So, how am I supposed to buy Elite Dangerous in 2018? I'm kinda confused, I was looking at Steam, if I buy the base game, do I get the chapter 4? Do I get the feature of landing on planets, or do I have to buy the season pass?
Thank you for any responses
It’s on sale right now, get the bundle with Horizons.
@@scottmanley Okay, thank you :)
I don't like the grind of Elite, but damn if it isn't fun as hell to be the first to discover a planet/star system and actually also be the first to land on and visit the planets you just discovered.
So just don't grind then. Why complain about your own choice? Have a problem with it just don't make it.
@@wylie2835 well most games like that require a grind to progress
No they don't. Most games have a global currency that gets everything. In elite thats credits. Stupid people just choose to do a single thing rather than play the entire game like it was designed.
@@wylie2835 so elite dangerous has NO grind?
@@Droplifter bought the game and I love it. I guess if your goal is to aquire something specific it can be a grind, but if you just relax and listen to some podcasts it's pretty great. I had 46 hours clocked the first 4 days i owned it. (school was out for break lol)
Scott (or anyone who plays) How does flying it compare to no man's sky ? Is a mouse and keyboard viable?
Well, I know that the ore rich asteroids would spread out across the belt, but wouldn't there still be sections of the belt that, at least for a time, were more densely packed with ore than others? I'm thinking just by virtue of variants in the distribution.
Hey, you were in the system of my faction!
I’d love to go back to this but the two things they updated were the ones I didn’t really do.
"You won't be Han Solo, you'll be that guy in the corner" Haha nice! :)
and if you can't fly safe, fly dangerous.
I think I'm gonna buy a new mining ship. It's been ages since I was a miner and looking at the changes... It's a good time to get back into it.
If you wanna enjoy this game, honestly, just play in VR. I did, I lived in this game, it was amazing, until I got bored. I may just jump into VR Elite again. It has certainly piqued my interest.
