  • Finally here! A 3.0 ship scale video. It contains all the flyable ships from 3.0, the fighters, the three main Thargoid variants, the SRV and a few real world examples to help show the scale. Enjoy!
    The cool Thargoid logo was from ArithonUK. Thanks hugely for that! www.elite-dange...

    E:D must've modeled the ships in current human scales, and scaled everything up by 10. The Diamondback cockpit for example should be the size of an Apache helicopter. No wonder there is no sense of scale to the game, what should be tiny single seat planes are actually the size of airliners.

    I wish the scale of the vessels was more apparent in the game. The asps, FDL, et al., feel like small lorry trucks at best, even on external camera - it stunned me to see an asp juxtaposed with a passenger jet in this clip.
    To be fair, the scale of the ships is marginally more apparent when you're planetside in an SRV next to one, so it seems likely space legs would increase the sense of perspective.

    This really hammers home Elite's scale problem. The cockpits of the biggest ships are proportionally identical to the cockpits of the smallest ships. If there was no direct comparison and I didn't know any better, I would assume that most of these ships were of comparable size.

    • @preferredimage
      @preferredimage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      From the outside for sure. we're so used to seeing windows on an aircraft meaning there's very little room behind the glass for people and cockpit. Inside the ship, less so. You can look around some of the cockpits and see how far away the door is, the upper or lower decks etc. and in VR this is increased vastly. If you only ever look forwards from the pilots seat, you are only getting one perspective. A good test is go outside and look at yourself in the chair, compared to how much glass there is.

    Ahh I didn't actually realize that the Beluga was the largest flyable ship, but I think that explains quite a bit, like getting snagged on the freaking station openings everywhere I go, and hitting every ship that comes within a football field of me.
    I guess that's to be expected of a cruise ship.

    it always fascinates me how big the cockpits are. when your in first person, it looks like the window is an arms length away, but then you go into camera suit and realize its as big as a house

    I think this video shows one of the key strengths of Star Citizen over Elite Dangerous (i own and enjoy both) and that is the sense of scale in the game. Because you cannot walk around the ship etc it is almost impossible to get a sense of the true size of your ship

    Great video as always !
    When I see the scale of a cap ship and a thargoid interceptor, I can't help but wonder how a small bug can destroy a big ship.
    And also, you should have added a spoiler on the spoiler of the T10 (If you know what I mean ;) )

      The big flowers have hulls nearly immune to conventional weaponry and are very agile. That and their design really help to give the impression they're an advanced alien species.

      i mean some of the comparatively small regular ships can take out a capital ship too if you know how. the thargoids have tech the in-game humans barely even understand and is much more powerful. back in the day computers with barely any computing power used to fill up entire buildings, but today you can get something with thousands of times more computing power in the palm of your hand. same principle, thargoids are just ahead in offensive technology.

    I never realized the ships were these big in-game when you put the little pilot next to each ship.. They always felt tiny. Like.. 1:50 in and I'm like "wow Adder is huge.. yet they're like little cockroach shits when you blow them up in space.."
    Also the little snek at the start is so cute omg.
