So glad you mentioned the What If fusions. I literally bought a Gamecube and this game just to play with those Fusions. Fun fact, the What If Fusions and Absorptions from this game dont appear anywhere else in Dragon Ball media (to my knowledge) except Tiencha, who i believe is called Yamhan in Dokkan Battle. One small thing you didn't mention was there was a special version of Budokai 2 Exclusive to Japan on PS2 called Dragon Ball Z2V. It was an unsaveable version of Budokai 2 with all skills and characters unlocked. It had some additional content. Frieza had 3 costumes: Majin Frieza (from the Budokai 2 Story) Cooler Kurieza 1st Form (Frieza's Son) who would be in his final form if you used the Frieza's Spaceship capsule. Cell had a Majin costume as well.
Budokai 2 is the game friends argue over who controls Goku and who controls the other losers in story mode, Budokai 2's story mode is better with 2 people taking turns controlling a character each, and taking turns playing Goku each stage.
The Budokai series came out so rapidly as a kid I just didn't even have the time/money to keep up. By the time I had money to get Budokai 2, Budokai 3 came out. The real underdog is Infinite World though. So much GT content for the series.
Budokai 2 is thee game that comes to mind when I think about Budukai or Tenkaichi. I didn't play all of them but Budokai 2's gameplay was my favorite for sure. It was different in an interesting and fun way. I remember beating Kid Buu as Goku with his teleport Kamehameha wave. It felt amazing.
I don't think it's a bad sequel. I just absolutely *HATED* how it looked at the time compared to Budokai 1. Gave it a chance years later and noticed how it improved certain gameplay elements, had a couple neat game modes and all but Budokai 3 sort of makes it obsolete.
I'm glad B2 is getting some recognition, even if it's 2 decades after its release. It wasn't really good, but it still had a lot of good ideas that had potential, like the story mode. Also, I'm surprised you didn't talk about B2v2, nowdays it even has a fan-made english translation! PS: DBSZ having *no* split-screen vs mode makes you already realize how sh*tty that game is gonna be.
Thanks for stopping by ❤️ I'll have to check that out, I wasnt aware of it. Regarding the lack of split-screen mode: yeah it absolutely sucks. Only time will tell if the game delivers on the hype that it's building. Perhaps the gameplay demo we'll get to see soon will shed some light on it's current state.
Definitely wasn’t my favorite DBZ game from back then, but I have memories with it just like every other ps2 dbz game. BT2 is my favorite, but I do remember grinding this specific game all day with my cousin.
Something that I always wondered about the Budokai Series on the PS2 is the difference between the version : - EU Versions had japanese vocals on the intro song and had japanese dub as well - US Versions had instrumental intro songs and only english dub , I get it that they wanted to appeal to the US audience but damn it's seems harsh to remove everything that is not "english" in the game
This had just come out when I went to the store to buy the first one and was definitely my most played growing up (I still play it). It’s ridiculous and non canon but a ton of fun and very replayable
I think the board game concept was unique. If they would have stuck with that but just made the storyline more accurate and maybe add in a few more playable characters it would have been a popular game. For example Raditz should have been the only villain to defeat on the first stage especially since it’s an introduction stage so it wouldn’t be too overwhelming. Then they should of featured Nappa and the sibamen in stage 2 then once you defeat them then Vegeta appears on the stage and they do a mini animation on the board game of him blowing Nappa up then your objective turns into defeating Vegeta before you move to the Namek stage 3. But personally this game was a favorite of mine
It's a fun gimmick, but it should have been a side area, like the world tournament. For a numbered title, it was a bad idea to replace the story mode with this.
Same man on if Sparking Zero doesn't have the world tournament mode!!! Been playing since Budokai 1 on GameCube and vs mode/world tournament is what keeps the game going for me for a long time. I'm not an online gamer so I'm hoping there's at least vs mode, and tournament
It's a god damn mess. Trying to unlock skills.characters, Getting money. Without Internet? good luck knowing what to do to get anything lmao . Too bad I'm an adult with few free hours.
The internet had been in people's homes for almost a decade when Budokai 2 came out though lol. Even if someone was so unfortunate to not have it, public libraries already did.
As someone who "grew up" (from age 13 to 16) with Budokai 2, I can safely say it's a great sequel that was just overshadowed by budokai 3 existing and not being included in the HD collection. Arguably due to dragon rush we can argue budokai 2 is the best of the 3 gameplay but Budokai 3 has far more content, though the exclusive Budokai 2 content is iconic. Ngl the most overlooked game is infinite world, it's basically Budokai 3 but with good gameplay (Aka no dragon rush).
Budokai 2 was my very first PS2 game and also my second game after Dragon Ball GT Final Bout. The amount of time i gave this game is just insane and my cousin who was older than me was so happy i bought it and played the hell out of it too good times
I actually liked it more than Budokai 3, cause there’s no teleport spam or dragon rush. Flying around the world I found more tedious than the board game, and loved the replay-ability of fun wishes, different characters interacting and unlocking. I also liked the strategy aspect of the board game, which you won’t need unless playing on Hard.
Yeah, I love the teleporting spams. It's very useful in the tournament stuff because it's not as easy to get knocked out of the ring like in the 2nd game.
budakai 2 was weird but it was fun as a kid with the story mode having the little game board style it only lost steam when budakai 3 came out, i really wanted to replay budakai 2 with the remaster they made but it only had budakai 1 and 3
I will most definitely cover Kakarot and im realllly looking forward to it, as I've never played it. I think I'm in for a treat. Next vid released will be Gundam coverage!
I might be the rare breed that has played budokai the most out of all of the budokai/budokai tenkaichi game (though, it might be second to tenkaichi 3, hard to say). I think it's such a charming game with incredible replay value even today that gets way too much hate!!
Kid Buu was a pain in the ass to beat, even on very easy mode. I think he was way too advanced for this game, with the number of combos he had, with many of the other characters didn't have. That's why it was easier in the next game, because everyone had more combo's. As for the storymode, they tried something new and unique with the board game and I liked that, the problem is that you have to fight the same characters over and over again until they lose their lives, it definitely gets boring after a while. Aside from the storymode, it's definitely a better game than the previous 1. I loved the made up Buu absorptions and dance Fusions. I wish we got that in the 3rd game. Also, did anyone else notice that the Fusion wears off a lot faster in Budokai 3? I don't get why they did that. 😂
I believe Kid Buu's difficulty is actually static, so he's locked to the highest difficulty, regardless of what you have the game set too. He's a bitch to get past no matter what lol
Overlooked. I think this game beats Budokai 1 in every regard outside of Story Mode (and that Mr. Satan mode). Even with that said, I love the open-ended story of Budokai 2. It gives major replay value and an identity unique from the first game. My only real gripes are that some characters play pretty much the exact same (eg. Goku & Gohan have the same cancels) and that the version we got in the West was not as complete as the Japanese version
Budokai 2 is overshadowed by the story of 1 and the expanded 3. It just doesn't stand out. The Tenkaichi series (I don't know how well Sparking Zero will do), have far more memorability due to their specific traits: - Tenkaichi 1 being the very first major Dragon Ball 3D fighter with a massive roster and pretty amazing features for its time. - Tenkaichi 2 offering a great story mode - Tenkaichi 3 with the best on launch roster and the gold standard for Dragon Ball Z games - Ultimate Tenkaichi being a complete disgrace that just carries the name but lacks all the things that make Tenkaichi good to begin with and rejected by fans. However, it is the first step for creating your own OC which Xenoverse would improve upon Budokai 2 added the Boo Saga and its characters but that's not a big jump like Budokai would do and also it has no major flaws which makes it popular or niche due to its massive issues like with Dragon Ball Final Bout, Ultimate Battle 22 or the dark age of dragon ball games like Ultimate Tenkaichi, Battle of Z or Kinect.
This is a really good video took me back to some really good times on the PS2 I got this game from a yard sale when I was a kid play the hell out of it then when I was a teenager my parents had a yard sale so I put some of my old games in it and a young kid bought the Budokai 2
It was alright. The story mode with the boards was cool but to much of it was for unlocks. Wish they let us use thoset boards for custom random play modes and not just story .i rmemeber having budokai 2 and then tenkaichi 2 and it was night and day difrence how amazing tenkaichi 2 was
I got this game for Christmas in 2003 when I was 15. First these games really looked after you Americans we didn't get English dubbed budokai 1 or a holographic cover for budokai 2 in Australia. Second I was really disappointed in the story mode at first when you compare the story mode in the first game to this you can see why it was disappointing at first but after a while it grew on me and I came to love it. I believe the reason this game was not in the budokai hd collection was solely due to how people reacted to story mode.
Budokai 2 was a good step up from the first game, and the unique story mode puts it over a lot of other games for me. Way better than just recycling the same story of the last 20 years.
Honestly, I think the excuse of "The Story Mode doesn't feel like a proper Fighting Game" to not include Budokai 2 on the PS3/Xbox360 Port Compilation was just the excuse given to game journalist and something happen behind the scenes that lead to the game not being included
i don’t see how there’s multiple people that all of a sudden like the second budokai. no one liked this game from release until about a year ago. (i’m going to compare it to the first game because obviously 3 is the best). the dragon world is terrible, it try’s to hard to be unique that it completely misses the mark. why make the story a “what if” in a sense? the intro isn’t as iconic as the first game. the game still has a “damage limiter”, instead of allowing for max damage combos. the way you unlock things in dragon world is stupid. they didn’t put enough effort into the side mode like they did with legend of hercule. it’s a lot of things wrong with this game.
@@LegendsForever206 no world tournament, the gameplay is sped up too much, the cutscenes have a weird hesitation after each character speaks, the intro isn’t as iconic as B3, dragon mission has lame “missions”, the side content isn’t there, infinite world isn’t the best. if you remove the cutscenes no one cares about that game as much as yall say yall do.
Personally i believe this was a great sequel it was way better gameplay wise and everything else looked gorgeous. Yes it didnt have the story mode everyone wanted but hey it was loaded with everything else
Anyone able to beat this story be my guest After 6 weeks in the uk finally finding a dragon ball game in Asda (Walmart basically) so 4 weeks in I’ve worked my back out I’ve dropped (at 11 boys lol) a 3x2 slab on my thumb and it exploded. Finally two weeks left, man gets his birthday money. Away he goes buys he’s budokai 3 get home and it’s 2 in the box Some pale faced MOFO is still out there with MY budokai 3 I however hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed 2. And CRAS-------
The WORST offender of the game is how unlocks were handled being tied to a story mode that WASN'T fun to replay over and over again. But mechanically, it IS better than 1 and 3. And you can fight me on that. The QTEs in Budokai 3 are stupid and luck based. Which fighting games do you play that have a rock paper scissor system that youd actually consider GOOD?!....Think about how bullshit that is for ONE second and you'd realize that Budokai 3 commits some mortal sins in the competitive world, which is why there isn't and never was a serious scene around it. 2 at LEAST didn't have any luck based mechanics in the fights. Not to mention that dumb aura burn mode. Resource management in a fighting game can make or break it, and anime fighters can definitely miss that mark.
Budokai 2 had no Dragon Rush and final moves that last 20 minutes as Budokai 3 ones, to in my opinion in some regards Budokai 2 is better than Budokai 3.
Although Budokai 2 is a game I don't re-visit often, the experience is unique. Because it doesn't follow the same story path we seen dozens of times by now, and give fan service with "What ifs," it's a memorable game. I wish there were more like this and built upon the formula. I liked the chess-like dynamic of storymode. However, I don't know if it has much repeatability, especially since Budokai 3 was done so well (not to much infinity world).
With respect, First 10 seconds he said that sparking zero is looking to be the "best DBZ game ever"... Bruh.. -_- chill .. TRUE fans and gamers were hype the first 2 months... That's it . Y'all gonna play sparking zero, and suddenly have an urge to hop back on your emulator to play Tenkaichi 3, (even though Tenkaichi 2 is better). Imo, budokai 1 and 3 are the best skill based wise, no button mashing to be seen besides clashing.
I mean you COULD be right, but I know a lot of life long fans that are super hyped. The more and more gets revealed, the more it looks like this is going to be a true revitalization of the Tenkaichi series. Only time will tell!
@@JarboeGaming I believe u, I'm just along the other mass of people that gave up when DBZ games weren't skill based anymore. Raging blast one didn't have enough combos, raging blast 2 you could button mash and combos would happen, burst limit was great skill based (was like a remake of budokai 1 content wise, with the engine of infinite world) , XenoVerse 1 and 2 required no TRUE dedicated skill, and fighterZ was looking good until me and my buddies seen all the cheapness we could do and then it got old. and Battle of Z and kakorot doesn't even have pvp.. so I hope sparking Zero is good, but that love that developers had for their video games is long gone.
@@elicapri6918 I'm actually playing through Raging Blast now and I agree, it looks pretty (way better than Xenoverse), but just lacks the depth of Tenkaichi. I'm new to the world of Dragon Ball coverage, but will be going through a lot of those older titles in the coming months. Hope you stop by again to make sure im not spouting off some BS ❤️
Long story short it is a bad sequel the whole board game story mode was so dumb they tried way to hard to make this game unique that it misses the mark.
For the people out there that hate on Budokai 2, they have to keep in mind that their favorite recommended Budokai 3 couldn't exist without it, as literally everything started with Budokai 2, since Budokai 1 felt really barebones and sort of archaic in comparison.
I hate when collections omit a game in the series. Like the Budokai Collection omitting this, the Naruto collection omitting Revolution and Generations, or the Batman Arkham collection omitting Origins. I'm playing these collections to check out these series. I want to play everything in the series! The Master Chief Collection did it right.

We need a dragon ball super budakai 4 game that plays just like dragon ball z budokai 3
Budokai 2 had no Dragon Rush and final moves that last 20 minutes as Budokai 3 ones, to in my opinion in some regards Budokai 2 is better than Budokai 3.
I could definitely see this. Budokai 3 may seem more polished, but Infinite world is peak Budokai imo.
10:49 I took offence to that as I am a budokai 3 enjoyer
It was overlooked. It has been and always will be the best budokai
Nah, that's Budokai 3 in a lot of ways. 😂
I like budokai 2 more than 3 simply becuz i hate the dragon rush mode in 3 and i also love the models and colors on 2 more
I played a bunch as a kid so I think it’s a pretty good title. Until I saw BT3 came out. Sheeeshhhhh
Budokai 2 was the shit. It’s Story was better too. This is a hill I’ll die on.
A number of the DB games have the what if stuff.
Most DB games have what ifs shoot Xenoverse is a big what if so stop trying to make Budokai 2 look good cause it isn’t.
Thought this was the best one lmfao atleast to me I ran this disc to the graveyard 😭 I think this is the first game I 100 percent complete.
Budokai 2 would be my favorite if Budokai 3 never existed
I feel like Budokai 2 was very underrated.
Overlooked.
Budokai 3 literally came out the following year.
And improved on so much, except for a few things.
Sparking Zero won't have Couchplay?? Boi. Why. I know it looks amazing but come on man. It's a Dbz Fighter.. ITS A TENKAICHI GAME!
@@JarboeGaming OF COURSE! Don't be fooled by my debates 😂 you earned a new sub!
Sparking zero not having split screen is dumb. Me and my cousen was looking forward to that 😑
Was that confirmed?
@@jasonone8726 seems so yeah
@MrSkullMerchant How exactly would 2 player work without a split screen? That makes no sense.
@@jasonone8726 dont ask me, im just saying what iv seen
Long story short it is a bad sequel the whole board game story mode was so dumb they tried way to hard to make this game unique that it misses the mark.
I did a video a few months back about my feelings on this game. I wasn't nice about it 😂
I'll have to check it out, thanks for stopping by!
@@JarboeGaming awesome video!
Def overlooked
Worst story mode imo
Neither
I think this game had a nice run
Sold units
So im not too sure why this a topic?
No. End of question
Over looked.
That game was lit
OR was it neither and just a good game 🤷🏾♂️
For the people out there that hate on Budokai 2, they have to keep in mind that their favorite recommended Budokai 3 couldn't exist without it, as literally everything started with Budokai 2, since Budokai 1 felt really barebones and sort of archaic in comparison.
I hate when collections omit a game in the series. Like the Budokai Collection omitting this, the Naruto collection omitting Revolution and Generations, or the Batman Arkham collection omitting Origins. I'm playing these collections to check out these series. I want to play everything in the series! The Master Chief Collection did it right.
Soarking Zero is already a let down. How they completely removed blood once again is agonizing.
Blood was never expected to be in it. 😂
Budokai 2 and tenkaichi 3 ifykyk. If you dont know, then you don't get to debate why the dbz fighting games have been in a decline
