- I have had a lot of questions about how we fertilize and what we use for fertilizer. Here is a quick video that shows you how we do it at our house.

Brilliant and Life Changing! I fertilized using this 5 gallon bucket method today and it is so much easier than mixing in the small watering can. Makes fertilizing much more quicker and efficient. I will definitely step up my fertilizing with this method. Thank you for sharing your tips! 🇨🇦
You are welcome. I am glad this helps with time saving :)
Awesome video!!!!! I love the idea of the 5 gallon bucket. I have a 1 gallon container - my neighbors must think I'm crazy... I spend more time walking back-and-forth from the different areas of my garden to the water spout - this would definitely help me..... thank you so much!!!!
I am glad this will help. Time saver :)
I love the tall stones surrounded by the purple grass! It looks great with bubblegum.
Thank you :)
Such a helpful video for me, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
That was a lot of really good information! Thank you 😊
You are so welcome!
Your videos are always so informative. Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!
This was extremely helpful! Thanks for sharing! 🌸
Glad it was helpful!
I loved this video. It answered the questions I had about fertilizing. I've been using a five gallon bucket also. I also have a Gorilla cart. So I put the bucket in the cart , put the fertilizer in the bucket, and fill it with water. Then I pulled the cart which is much easier than carrying that heavy bucket. It was the most complete fertilizing video I've seen. Thank you!

I love how you guys demonstrated how to fertilize the supertunias. I do it this way too. Can you do a future video of when you stop fertilizing for the year thank you
You kidding right ;) But seriously, if you watch the Fall garden center tours towards the end you will see Supertunias that have not been fertilized and you can tell.
I will have to buy this.
I already use Proven Winners continuous release fertilizer.
Yes, this is a great addition to the fertilizer regime. The iron used in this fertilizer is great even when your plants are really struggling.
Very helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Your Welcome.
Really helpful to watch you go through the process. Watering appropriately (with or without fertilizer) is something I struggle with.
Keeping up with it is key
Love your videos Heidi! 😊
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this great explanation! My petunias thank you as well :D
You are welcome. thx for watching
Beautiful petunias!🌸🌸🌸🌸
Thanks for visiting
Very helpful thank you 🙏🏻
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks so much for this video. We have had a very wet June and July and the petunias haven’t been as pretty as usual.
Same here! That is why I am loading them up with feed now.
Very helpful video! Would you consider doing a similar video for your perennials and hydrangeas? Thank you
Great suggestion!
Thank you for your videos-I always learn something new!
I came back from vacation and my supertunia bubblegums were crazy leggy and huge because of all the rain. I chopped them back pretty hard, so they look like foot long leggy sticks with a few leaves. Will they grow back, or have I killed them? Zone 7b Virginia.
There is a good chance they will grow back. Make sure to fertilize them as well weekly.
Thank you for this detailed step by step demo of how to fertilize:) Appreciate you taking the time to do this for us. I love the use of a 5 gallon bucket! Sadly we can't get PW fertilizer or any Espoma products here in ON, CA :(
I am sorry to hear that. Glad the tip helped.
I like the three columns of stone in the garden bed too! Where did you purchase them?
That's a good question. We got them 15 years ago or more. I am not sure where they came from.
Thank you! Can I use this on my Boston fern or is it only for flowering plants?
Yes you can!
Hi there! I was inspired by your backyard lined up with sunpatiens and I planted a lot of them last year.
It was not successful-plants did not grow big and there were not much flowers as yours. I read online instruction saying sunpatiens do not need much fertilizer so I did not fertilize at all. I wonder whether this is the prob. How would you fertilize sunpatiens please?
I do not fertilize Sunpatiens. Make sure they get lots of water and full sun.
Heidi, what kind of grass is that behind the bubble gum? They’re beautiful
Rubrum grass. Thank you for asking!

When you water overhead on the Aquapot, does it go into the reservoir with the other water and sit there or does it drain out somewhere?
It does go into the reservoir.
Do you recommend fertilizing in the morning or in the evening, does it even matter? I usually fertilize in the evening after the sun has gone down.
We did it at night in the video. I really do not think it matters, as long as it gets done :)
I didn’t know you could double feed supertunias when they yellow. Do you ever cut your supertunias back mid season?
Yes, i do trim them back if i absolutely need to. I try to keep up on the feed though that why they dont need a trim.
The change in colour could also be in reaction to your water. What is the ph? Is it more acidic, or more base?
No it is not a reaction to my water. It is the type of iron they use. It is different than other fertilizers.
Did I understand you to say you plant the 10” pot in the ground? Or did you take the plant out of the pot?
Yes, there is is 10" pot in the ground. Here is a quick video that shows you what we do. th-cam.com/video/gVrVIFCPyRM/w-d-xo.html
I wouldve gave them some iron tone as well :)
Yes we could do that. This fertilizer has great iron in it and perked them right up.
Do you ever use it on your hydrangeas?
Yes you can. I would recommend slow release as a first line of feeding. But if you feel that they need a burst of feed you can use water soluble. I would do this if you see yellowing leaves.
@@gardencrossings Thank you!
Jacks is just as good
I am sure it is good, but not as good in my opinion. Proven Winners uses a better iron that can easily be taken up by 'bound up' plants. That other fertilizers cant do.
I thought plant food and fertilizer were two different things.
They are the same, there are just different formulas for different things.
@@gardencrossings Ok. Was wondering bc I've heard other gardening TH-camrs say they fertilize maybe twice a year, but feed plants 1 to 2 times a week. Trying to make sure I'm using the right stuff. Thanks!
Many annoying ads in the starting
I am sorry. I am not sure why TH-cam does that. We do not get paid by youtube so I wish it wouldn't do that.
Girl, you are talking about everything here. For instance, you talking that this fertilizer color and / or so on......but you never say what fertilizer to use. Like, for instance, 10-10-10 or 5-8-5 or which?????
We are looking to find out what is best to use and not how the guy is mixing it in bucket. Everybody knows how to mix solutions....
Think about next time...
In the video it is showing the fertilizer we use and in the description below the video there is a link.
here it is for reference.
