    Laura, how does it feel to be a part of so many people's' daily morning ritual?! Kind of scary? Haha. Thank you for this one. I need to add fertilization to my routine! SAD is a real thing to me and more than 2 days inside is way too much.... don't even have to go to the gym now either... saving monies all the way around... home grown veggies and fruits much better than store bought...got my love of gardening from my mom and grandmother, and glad to say both my girls now enjoy it as well.... pass it on...

    i am using up the old fertilizers i've had in my stash, and completely switching to espoma and proven winners products.. when i started using the Biotone in my garden, it became a game-changer... it is rare that i lose a plant these days during the initial planting phase, and i'm now a loyal customer... PW plants have proven their quality to me time and time again, as well.. and even tho i can't get them as often as i'd like, i purchase them when i see them and even order online (gotta have some limoncellos!) so feel like their products will be the same high quality (and i trust your advice!) ... you have taught me so much more about gardening in general; not just about plants, but maintenance and care of them as well... thanks for the video!!

      KinGyo Haven I think there are lots of us Canadians on here so I hope she responds but I use liquid Promix Root Booster like she uses Biotone and it’s been amazing. It has similar properties but isn’t organic unfortunately. It says it has a high phosphorus formula with 2 hormones to prevent transplant shock and promote root growth. It’s sold at Canadian Tire but it was the local greenhouses that recommend it to me. Not terribly expensive, lasts a while. Needs to be reapplied though until plant is established

I was going to fertilize every 2 weeks but sounds like I should do monthly! I’m having problems with bloom end rot and have used several home made remedies. Over 1 week I tried from the refrigerator, First plain milk, freeze dried milk, and egg shell powder and lastly egg shells. I also use root boost which is a liquid starter fertlizer sold here in our greenhouses on everything now, including my annuals. It’s made a big difference and it’s because of your use of the bio tone that I did that. I feel like the sound of the bag is therapeutic to me now, cause Im so used to hearing it when you are planting all your beautiful things! Question: for perennials, shrubs, and/or roses, I know you fertilize early in the spring and then should do once over the season, and I thought that time was best done in June?? Should we be fertilizing all the things again now? Thank you!

    Laura, you are so inspiring! My plants look better than ever this season because I have learned so much from your videos. I have a couple of questions: Is it possible to use too much fertilizer and if so how would I know? What would over fertilized plants look like? How do I keep my container annuals looking good all summer? As we are getting into the hot, hot, humid time of the season my flowers tend to “poop out”. Should I be cutting them back? What should I do? Does your advice for weekly feeding of annuals apply to blooming perennials (like coral bells)? Thanks so much. Keep up the good work!

    • @GrowingInTheCity
      @GrowingInTheCity 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Organic fertilizers need to be broken down by microbes and other life in your soil, so its pretty difficult to "burn" plants with organic granular fertilizers. I usually scale down from what the directions suggest, especially since i fertilize regularly throughout the spring/summer. Good luck with heat - its hot here too!

    I'm a beginner in Atlanta, (zone 7, hot & humid through the summer). Most of my flowers are in containers and the potting soil I am using says it contains a fertilizer in it that feeds for 6 months. Do I need to fertilize on top of this? I'm afraid of burning my plants. Thanks for all your great advice. I love your channel and my new hobby!!

    • @GrowingInTheCity
      @GrowingInTheCity 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats and welcome to the gardening fam! 🌱 I'd be skeptical about a 6 mo claim on a fertilizer. I think you can certainly add a low NPK organic fertilizer without worrying about burning your plants, like a 3-3-3 or a 2-4-2. I talk about this more in depth if you're interested in watching: th-cam.com/video/GfJk8XJYbH8/w-d-xo.html

    I hope this question isn't out of place in the comments for this video (I'm not sure where else to post it). I was pulling weeds the other day and realized that, as a new gardener, I have no idea if there is a proper way or time to pull weeds if doing it by hand. You've mentioned you do it weekly -- do you wait for them to reach a particular size, do you use any hand tools, dig the taproots out (if present) or only tear the foliage off above soil-level for those with deep roots? Thanks so much, I really enjoy your channel! :)

    • @GrowingInTheCity

      Not sure the exact ingredients on the garden tone, but if there's a manure (or "gauno"), maybe she's attracted to the smell in the same way some dogs eat other dogs...you know...What I'd recommend is working the fertilizer into the top couple inches of soil, and watering immediately after spreading. Both ideas should help reduce the smell. #GoHuskies

    When you put out your galvanized planter planting video I loved it so much I basically went out immediately and bought almost all the same plants and planted my own large galvanized planter that I have in my backyard. Mine still looks almost exactly the same as it did the day I planted it sadly while yours is giant and lush. I live in Western Oregon and it definitely shows me the difference in growing seasons where we have had basically no sun and are continuing to have daily rain the entire time. I see all these videos from people who live in more sunny climates who already have so many things blooming in their yard. My flower garden is only the beginning stages of putting on growth and not many flowers...that all starts to happen in July here and then sadly comes to a fast close sometime in September when the overcast and rain come back. I've definitely learned more from your channel channel about incorporating fall and winter interest. I am makingan effort to do that this year since we have such a short growing season in Portland.

    I just can’t believe you’re still fertilizing everything individually! That has got to be exhausting! This year I upgraded to a fertilizer injector that I can use through the drip system, and it has made a huge difference. It’s so much easier and it actually gets done! Once a week I go dump the right amount of water soluble fertilizer into the injector tank, and it gets mixed in and delivered with the next drip cycle or two. As the tank empties, it reverts to plain water, and I don’t have to mess with it again until the next week.

      Jake Jones I use a Chapin system with quick connects attached so it’s easy to move from zone to zone if necessary, but there are many different styles and functions to meet any need. It’s absolutely a game changer to be able to fertilize so easily. It took about half an hour to read the directions and get it set up. www.amazon.com/dp/B07HR72KZB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_m1V5EbPV0BF3M
