  • This walk takes in the two Munros Gairich & Sgurr Mor which are located to the south of Loch Quoich. A good day but low cloud restricted views.

    Gairich did the same thing to me last time. 100ft from the top and the clag rolled in.
    That's a cracking day out and a good route which avoids the rollercoaster along Loch Arkaig. 😆
    Thanks as always Charlie for a great video. 👍

      Hi David, That Loch Arkaig road is certainly a killer for travelling 🤣I don't think I've managed along it without being sick.
      We just didn't have enough air movement to get the thin cloud moving but a great day nonetheless. Cheers

    Brilliant Charlie love these Munro’s I did them via a night in Kinbreck bothy coming in from Glen Dessary I found it hard with a heavy pack going over the mountain pass / col to get to the bothy but had a great time I must say you guys a fit well done another great video

      Hi Andrew, We have also come at these two from Glen Dessary and got a right good soaking if I remember. The river also gave us a bit of bother as it was running high at the time.
      Its such a terrific area and remote once you get into Glen Kingie. Cheers

    Good stuff guys. A long walk out but enjoyable. Nice July pics with the summer greens.

      Andy, The walk out was longer than I remembered. Didn’t help that the tree folk were in mincing the track. Great day nonetheless. Cheers 👍

    Another big day Charlie for yourself and mike , enjoyed the footage very much. I have still to do both of them and its good to see I can do them together even if its a long day out. Thanks again Ally.

      Hi Ally, Always done them as a two, both from Glen Dessary and this route. A great day. Cheers 👍

    You always seem to be in such rich interesting terrain. Very much to my regret I do not have opportunity and health currently to do this route but I think your videos provide a rich resource for those evaluating a route to take on, and tick off points for route finding if they go ahead with it. Congratulations on the climb. JMO

    Good work out C&M. Glad weather improved as day went on. Think I’ll do Sgurr Mor from Glen Dessary if I can’t borrow a canoe to go across loch Quoich.
    Always good to get the backpacks off for a bit Charlie, I went up my last munro Fionn Bheinn without a pack, what a difference.
    Nice commentary again Charlie.👍

      Hi Frank, Keeping your feet on the ground via Glen Dessary is the way to go 👍 Scottish lochs are dangerous places 🛶🤣
      Getting the pack off during a walk is always an option we look for and on a hill like Fionn Bheinn there isn't a big advantage taking it providing conditions are right. Just got to remember an mark the GPS position, even on a clear day, to find them again. We lost an hour a few years back looking for our packs on a blue sky day 🤣. Take care, Charlie

    Super video and a great route. A big day with plenty of ascent. It’s a wonder we weren’t waving at each other across the loch, as the same day I was on Gleouraich and Spidean Mialach.

    Interesting route, shame that the views out west were not there today. What surprised me the most was the level of the water in Loch Quoich; looks half empty already, all the winter snow has melted and no doubt we will probably get another very dry summer with below average rainfall. As we get more and more dry summers, snowless winters and calm days, I think the Scottish government's renewable energy policy is going to end up in tatters !!

    • @charliemccartney7055
      @charliemccartney7055  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, From memory the loch has been low for many years and never seems to change. There isn't many streams/rivers in Scotland that don't have generators but I'm never sure if its for the estates or plugged back into the grid. They are running water out at the dam but that's likely to maintain the river and associated jobs. Its certainly looking like dry summers and nae snow winters for us going forward. Cheers

    that down and up is a huge addition to this long walk - (not got your knees) but a lovely route. the country seems very different to a few miles west. i was out at Sgurr na Ciche a couple of months after this was shot, and it seemed to be carved out of green cheese in comparison - i assume it gets a lot more rain there. wonderful video - cheers

      Hi Richard, Once a bit of Spring heat gets in the vegetation just takes off and the bucket loads of rain certainly helps. We've always preferred this route rather than from Glen Dessary as it takes out the river crossing, you also have the option of taking height early or walking in the track between the tops depending upon conditions. Just a super area... Cheers

    The walk along the path down from col at the NW of Squrr Mor along Glen Kingie is a damp affair with many burns coming off the hill. Great video. I appreciate anything of the Rough Bounds.

    A shame you didn't get the views at the summits but the clarity and stillness of the air gave you some great sights as it was. That distance combined with the ascent really makes it a big day. I was out at Carn Bhac the other day and bailed out before taking on Beinn Iutharn Mhor partly due to the weather (which immediately improved as soon as I committed myself) and partly to the long walk out. Wonderful video as always though! Thanks. Best wishes, Murdo

      At least, you'll have a good reason to get back into the area for BLM which is always worth a visit. Cheers

    Hi Charlie and Mike big days walking well planned walk do you and Mike pick a day and go for it, or do wait for weather window then go for it watching your videos for sometime now you seem to be lucky with the weather, looking forward for the next video.

    • @charliemccartney7055
      @charliemccartney7055  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Philip, The weather does drive a lot of our decision on location now, particularly as we have more opportunities for walking days through the week. If the weather is poor, we'll stay local and take our soaking close to home. We're close to completing another Munro round and that obviously influences decisions on targetted tops and length of the walking day. Cheers

  • @bennevis21
    @bennevis21 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did they blast the hillside behind where you started the walk?. Adding in the second Munro makes it a big day but it did seem a better route than the one I took from Loch Arkaig.

    • @charliemccartney7055
      @charliemccartney7055  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi bennevis, There was a landslide that close the road a few years back. Must have been scary as the boulders are massive.
      A great couple of tops to get but only completed the Loch Arkaig the once and prefer this route. Cheers
