  • The Ring of Steall loops around the four Munros Sgurr a' Mhaim, Am Bodach, Stob Coire a' Chairn & An Gearanach which circle the Steall Waterfall flowing into Glen Nevis. A spectacular walk with stunning views all enjoyed in a settled weather day.

    As a student in the 1970s, the Mamores were the first Scottish hills I really got to know, mostly in winter and staying at Steall. A great video and thank you!

      Hi David, What a place to start your introduction to the Scottish hills... superb. I've stayed at Steall quite a few time through the 80's & 90's when we would have weekend club meets. The glen was quite quiet in these days which isn't the case now with many walking in to view the waterfall. Cheers, Charlie.

    Tried this ring twice in different winters from Steall Bothy, both times got blown back with horizontal snow. One time protecting frightened freshers, second time unable to progress far on hands and knees.

      Hi Geoffrey, Filming is always easier when you have two and you can grab footage on the fly without having to walk and retrieve the camera. Having someone to scale the landscape helps as the camera tends to flatten things making it less dramatic. Things just feel easier when your not fighting the elements. Cheers, Charlie

    Super video, Charlie, it was a great day yesterday and the good weather continues here today at home in Invermoriton. This route brings back many memories from the time we lived in Fort William and this is a magnificent circuit. Some things have obviously changed a lot since the old days when there was very little room for parking anywhere in the glen (there never needed to be). However the hills don't change and neither does the character of the route. All the best, Ian.

    • @charliemccartney7055
      @charliemccartney7055  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, Hope this good spell of weather continues and things warm up a bit. Glen Nevis is always busy and parking is certainly an issue particularly when the campervans drive to far and cause havoc. The Ben Nevis car park was bursting when we past early in the afternoon and campsite full. Good to see but the visitors since covid has exploded. Cheers, Charlie.

Once your up on The Mamores the ridges have the interest that drags you round and I’ve always enjoyed a visit as there’s so many tops packed close together. I’ve had a few good club meets in the Steall Hut back in the day and remember walking up the path in the dark after a few beers in town with big packs and the carry out under the arm. The bridge crossing was a bit interesting when the river was in spate…. happy days. Cheers, Charlie.

      Hi Gary, Just a couple of things... keep in mind the river crossing at Steall Bothy as it could be tricky if the days before have been heavy rain. The wire bridge is there but I've also seen it awkward to get over at the waterfall.
      In a normal winter crampons and ice axe are a possibility but the way things are going this year you'll be doing it in shorts and tee shirt. Have a great day and it would be a shame to do the round in poor weather conditions as its stunning. Cheers, Charlie
