The description of her fears in the nightmare forest. Being immortal. Everyone dying. Being a divination wizard. But not being able to stop time killing everyone. Fuck. Me.
1:58:04 theres lots of painful moments but this was what broke me, that despite how much of a powerful wizard Aelwyn is she is still TERRIFIED of her father so much as lifting his hand around her, she's literally an abjuration wizard and she still shrinks in his presence.😢
I really like that we got a forgiveness arc with aelwyn but adaine still got to murder her dad and have everyone be super happy for her. I feel like a lot of stories go too hard on the forgive and forget angle when they do stuff about abuse and toxic people. I love a good complicated relationship with nuanced themes of empathy and redemption, but I also love the sheer childlike joy of a man who treated you like shit all your life being punched so hard he dies while everyone cheers
It's because Aelwyn was a child raised by genuinely fucked up adults and Angwyn was one of said fucked up adults. Being raised in a bad environment and not having the power or life stability to change that doesn't make you a bad person, and so Aelwyn truly did deserve a second chance to be a person outside of the bubble she lived in. Angwyn could just kinda not be so much of a loyalist that he'd KILL HIS OWN CHILD, but he chose death.
Aelwyn essentially responded to the same circumstances as Adaine in a different way. Angwyn and Arianwen made a choice, Aelwyn and Adaine were just trying to survive. Throughout their childhood, Aelwyn unfortunately learned that self-preservation came at the cost of her sister but if she was in a better situation, she likely would have treated Adaine differently. She deserves a chance to prove herself. Angwyn and Arianwen did this to them, and can die in a fire 😊😊

This might be a bit morbid but the scene in which Adaine killed her father is so awesome. The emotional build up to her all the way to her using the fist, perfectly saving that 4 for the save. That entire small battle is so cinematic, like just imagine the spell being activated from her father, the counter, the dispell the lightning bolt, the 20 foot sprint and the fucking punch of all punches. Just the slo-mo shots of it happening playing out in my head, it was such an amazingly cool and badass moment to have happened and especially in the medium that it did happen. Man. Dnd freakin rules
tbh it’s exactly what the spell was made for, which makes it all the sweeter. Like, Brennan gave Adaine the spell b/c she kept trying to punch her sister with her -2 strength all through freshman year, and I think Ayda says something like “you have a lot of rage in you that I think you’d like to physically act on” when she gives the spell. To one-shot her father? Her abuser and a big source of her rage after coming to terms with the fact that Aelywn was abused too, just in a different way? Honestly you’re so right, the scene is so cinematic and poetic-the way that Adaine specifically uses a divination skill to be able to one-shot her dad… okay, I’m just rambling now, this is all obvious but she’s my favorite character and I just love the scene.
It also works out narratively because if you remember when she talks to her parents about her first battle in the series she gets reprimanded by her father I believe specifically because she used her hands and not her magic
Whenever I picture that scene I always picture Adaine saying "Guess what, bitch!" when she activates the spell and then saying "I'm strong now." right as she punches him in the face and sends him flying. There was this one scene that i had sworn happed where we actually see the memories of them as kids and Aelwyn almost being nice and shit but thinking about it again Im pretty sure that was a fanfic
This relationship means so much to me. I was the older sister in a cruel, dysfunctional family. I was six when I was taken in by my aunt and my sister was a baby. It was a reverse dynamic because she was their baby and I was the outcast. I was terrified to say or do the wrong thing for fear of being kicked out. My sister didn’t have such fears. Because she was bonded more to our aunt, she was much more brave than me. She stood up to their cruelty and they actually listened to her. To this day, I’m still terrified of them.
I just sort of realized something about them. When Aelwyn and Adaine are talking in the hot tub, after Adaine frees her mind, there was a moment when if Aelwyn had been more vulnerable, and willing to address their shared trauma, Aelwyn may not have left. What happened was Adaine cast hideous laughter on her. Now... Kalina might have terrified her into leaving all the same, but I have eno doubt in my mind it was an easier choice because of how Adaine couldn't allow herself to be vulnerable.
hey i jsut need you to know this comes on autoplay a lot and i always realize around the time in the tower where aelwyns forgetting conversations and uhh , then i just sort of weep. so you have emotionally devastated me like five separate times
It's probably a modified Globe of Invulnerability spell, which specifically doesn't allow spells to pass through the barrier unless they're extremely strong, but it -can- be dispelled using Dispel Magic.

@@kuno3336 I think you find out who a person is from what they do when they have the power to do whatever they want. I think Arianwen probably really believed that she would stick up for Adaine if she could but she just couldn't because of Angwyn and that was what was stopping her. But when she had the power to choose if she stood with Adaine or not, she just pushed right through and continued rationalizing her horrible behavior and telling herself it was the right thing to do. I think the exchange at 1:48:22 really shows that at this late stage she STILL believes she's on the right side, and that she's done everything right as a parent, and that the loving thing to do is to convince Adaine to join them, and that any means necessary to do that are valid. Her words on their surface really do seem sympathetic even then, and she might even believe them, but her actions when she was given the power to make choices really show who she is. Contrast that with Aelwyn who was verbally cruel and belittling to Adaine and always deferred to their parents at Adaine's expense... but when given the power to either help Adaine or desert her, she chose to have her back, even at her own expense.
Not sure if it's canon, but I believe if you visit the wiki it's stated that a few things were retconned inbetween seasons, including the potential redemption for anguine Abernant. Which tbh makes sense, some things are bound to change to fit the narratives the player create with Brennan.

1:24:08 she's back
Thanks for putting this together, I thoroughly enjoyed it
24:21 Love this bit so much
He deserves an Oscar
Finally, the main and best character gets her own movie
There was this one scene that i had sworn happed where we actually see the memories of them as kids and Aelwyn almost being nice and shit but thinking about it again Im pretty sure that was a fanfic
1:58:21 it's this moment, when Aelwyn casts Detect Thoughts on Adaine. Maybe someone also used it in a fanfic, idk, but it's canon
The intro feels so downton Abbey. I felt like I was watching a Wilde play
1:53:45 that line is so powerful.
this is the bit I was looking for
I just sort of realized something about them.
She didn’t actually cast it though, she clarified and told Brennan it was a joke.
Adaine and Fabian now have the same STR stat
20:58 her delivery I can't
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
I really love this part too idk why 34:44
hey i jsut need you to know this comes on autoplay a lot and i always realize around the time in the tower where aelwyns forgetting conversations and uhh , then i just sort of weep. so you have emotionally devastated me like five separate times

God i love adaine. What a beautiful character

back here after the FHJY announcement, manifesting more abernant sisters shenanigans
Wait she dispelled the orb from inside the orb he said prevented magic? Granted he allowed Message, but he specifically said it blocked her magic.
It's probably a modified Globe of Invulnerability spell, which specifically doesn't allow spells to pass through the barrier unless they're extremely strong, but it -can- be dispelled using Dispel Magic.
1:29:41
Adaine and Aelwyn argue once again
could anyone help me out and name the song that starts at 1:21:54? i've been poring over the d20 music spreadsheets and can't figure out which one it is
If you haven't found it yet, it's Kvikkjokk by Ström
Anyone else find it a little weird how mom flipped? She seemed sympathetic in S1, and went full villain in S2
I always saw it as her trying to manipulate Adaine instead of really caring about her
@@liv_jwd fair enough. I saw it as "I care, but dad is in charge"
1:57:40 baby moment :,,,,,,((((
24:25 is funny
Where is the last part from post-season two? And huge kudos for putting all these moments together!
Thanks! The last bit it's from their one shot College Visit
@@liv_jwd thank you! :)
