Short answer: It is correct. BMW assembled them this way. See: th-cam.com/video/nexhnERJVNg/w-d-xo.html @ 3:31 Long answer: Measuring clearance at the valve stem is not an absolute requirement for this SOHC design and many others...paying respect to the lifter arm ratio. However, it is customary (ie. technique) for OHV engines where routine access to the cam lobes is typically limited to non-existent.
BMW's service data is the clearance between the valve top and the rocker arm.It is never between the rocker arm and the camshaft. You're showing a video of the manufacturing process, which is not correct. This is because the manufacturing process and the maintenance process are often different, and it is nonsense to talk about the assembly of a new car without wear and strain problems and the maintenance of those aged parts in the same breath. A special filler gauge should have been used during factory assembly.
yo since we got the same car i need some help please, my car started to hesitate when i press the gass slightly, and will notice that it will go way to slow when you first press the whole pedal down, could you please tell me from what that problem is ?? thanks alot man
Try looking/listening for air leaks downstream of the air flow meter (rubber boot, IAC hose, plastic fittings). Unmetered air can produce that symptom. Could be other problems though too.
Valve claerance is 0,30 mm on the valve stam and cold engine. Camshaft removal is only possible bij removing the head. With a special tool you can press down the rockerarms and remove the cam forwards out the head.
Nice video mate ! Actually thinking of buying an e34 535i since a few months.. you did each valve adjustment in a special order right ? Thanks, Pierre Edit : Do more e34 vids if you can !
Sadly soon all gas cars will be banned in EU and USA! In France they have a new banning law for ICE cars called SCHLABOUBVE and in Switzerland the HESCHLAVVO law! In Scandinavian countries soon there will be a so called SMORVERBIDEN law. In Germany from 2027 the new BABVVO and TEBBVO laws by the green peoples party will bann all gas cars from public streets only exception will be professional commuter trips and state-certified transports)!!!
I use amsoil high zinc motor oil I love seeing my engine still looking brand new when I pop that cover off
Great video! Did you say(maybe I missed it) the torque spec for the nut on the rockers?
Thank you. No I didn't mention that on the video, and I no longer have my manuals, but IIRC it was 10 N-m.
I wanna gove another suggestion: tighten the banjo bolts of the oil rail, theyre known to come loose. While youre in there, might as well
This is incorrect.
The feeler should be between the eccentric and the top surface of the valve stem, not the cam.

nice vid m8. how did you turn the engine?
Without removing the fan, you can turn it over with the alternator pulley. Just check the tension of the belt first
At 24 PM and 59 PM
And at 23 PM and 4194304 PM
HOW ADJUSTABLE ARE THE VALVES???
What is the clearence in cold confition?
0,30mm
Is it the same for the m30b30?

@@TerdFurg3zon ok i will check that, thank you
Fuel pump & mass airflow sensor can also cause this too .
Big one is tps sensor, you should hear the switch click when car is off and you engage the throttle cable.
How do you remove the camshafts?
The camshaft on the M30 is removed through a bore on the rear of the head, which requires removing the head from the engine block.
Okay thanks but is it required to be taking to a machine shop to be smoothed out?
@@TerdFurg3zon no, You can remove cam without taking out head :).
@@jebohim
Impossible.
