  • It has been a LONG road to get here but it is finally time to completely rebuild/refresh/overhaul the mighty M30B35 for the E28. In this video we are going to install the fully refreshed head, replace every single gasket/seal, install new accessories and headers, and assemble this engine so it is ready to install! Safe to say by the end this engine will look brand new like it came off the factory assembly line!

      According to the federal HESCHLAVVO law, it is already forbidden in Switzerland to drive combustion engines on mountain passes from 2025. In France, the SCHLABOUBVE regulates that fossil vehicles that produce fine dust are prohibited in all cities from 2025. The BABVVO in Germany will bann exhaust gas pollution from 2027 and that is what will happen in entire EU also bann of all tires and brakes because of fine dust!

    Josh great work, I especially appreciate that you leave the missteps in, Lord knows I do plenty, and the idea of taking on a task like a rebuild I can only imagine the number of two-steps back I would have to do. The bigger sensor is actually a timed switch for the seventh injector on the early models.
    You need the brown sensor with only on pin in the 2way connector.
    That's the the one for your gauge in the intrument cluster....and it's cheap. ;-)

    WD40 isn't specifically a lubricant. It's a penetrating solvent that isn't not a lubricant, but if you're looking for a lubricant, a penetrating oil like Liquid Wrench or Sprayway will yield better results.

    Watching this video is fun given I just did this exact same sequence of things and fuck ups 4 weeks ago - down to the chain tensioner being on the wrong side!
    Only thing I saw that you didn’t do that might bite you in the ass is adding RTV/Kuril at the gasket joints between pan/ lower timing chain cover and same around the headgasket/upper timing covers (each 90 degree joint). Might develop some premature oil leaks as that’s where they always develop on the m30s
    M30s are fun. FYI when I ran my M30 for the first time before stage 3 torque it was blowing a bunch of steam/vapor out of the exhaust to the point that I thought my new HG failed. I finished the run in and did the stage 3 torque and it sealed up beautifully - been running for 1200 miles now and I’ve been abusing it.
    Enjoy!

  • @robsweekendgarage
    @robsweekendgarage ปีที่แล้ว

    That is really a piece of art. Did you coat the blasted aluminum with anything? I think Sreten from M539 restorations found something to help prevent it from oxidizing again.
    How are these engines to drive in modern day traffic? When I first started looking at E24s thought it would be cool to swap in a m54b30 - “modernish” power, reasonably reliable, easy to get parts. But you seem to have such a love for these wonder how it is to live with. Wouldn’t be a daily just a cruiser in my case.

    • @m3nameisjosh464
      @m3nameisjosh464  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm id have to look into it, I was under impression vapor honed parts dont reoxidize but I could be wrong.
      As for driving, M30s are extremely fun and friendly even in todays standards. B35 in a e28 should be a fairly quick car.

    3 months ago, I get it, but didn't you say that a notorious bad block issue is cracking? Why, or maybe there isn't a product, did you not take this opportunity to fortify? I have little knowledge of BMW engines, when I was a kid building cars BMW was on the top shelf and still exotic here. I only really have experience with the Datsun I6 and the Honda I4s

      They crack from the headstuds being tightened down without cleaning the holes first. Not possible to fortify, just something that can happen with age

    Thank you for your great video. I drive 1984 BMW 533 in good condition. My question is: the price will go up by years for those classic BMW?
