Great coverage thank you. It's as close to being there as I can hope for. And nice to watch Magnus do what he does without a lot of fuss being made over his every move. Thank you again.
WOW both of them expecting one damn mistake from the other. Lot of patience not giving up at all. This is one end again I enjoyed a lot. Thanks for posting 😊
I thought it was the tiny camera on the board that bugged him but the arbiter didn't seem to be looking at it so I don't know.
a Petrov who dosen't play Petrov ... how disrespectful to the family name
Wasn't funny.
@@shoryaprakash8945 it could be funny for someones, but you are too sophisticated
@@shoryaprakash8945 for me it was, fck you
i found it hilarious
@@raphael.portela thank you Mr R. Portela
Ух, я прям понервничал. Никита вы молодец! Кстати В "блиц с мастерами" есть очень похожая партия, до хода ладьи на Е5, по моему один в один. Поздравляю.
Obviously, he is peeved that Petrov didn’t play the Petrov… 😂
i think magnus in the end wanted to arrest the black queen with rook under the connect of the king but e3 prevented that
NP was looking for a draw using repeated checks by the queen. MC was looking for a win. But MC knew from the beginning the game was headed for a draw
in this game, Magnus played the end game stronger than Nikita. Once Magnus lost the f pawn, it was a clear that the game was a draw. his rooks were daring and fierce. Nikita's queen was not as strong as Magnus' rooks. in fact, the queen was practically moving back and forth trying to win a draw, unable to do anything against Magnu's king and 2 rooks. this game shows that 2 rooks are in fact stronger and more powerful than a queen in an endgame. probably Nikita knew that he could not keep the a pawn, so he gave it up freely. yet it is interesting to know why Magnus gave up the b pawn? could white's b pawn have been saved? Give credit to Nikita for his fine surprising move of d5! the exchanges that follow is what leads to the kind of queen versus 2 rooks endgame. perhaps the game might have ended different had Nikita not played d5 and Magnus failed to trade queens for black's 2 rooks. so know how and when to exchange. I think Nikita was playing for a draw since from early in the game, probably giving Magnus too much respect. Thanks and Happy New Year!
In ur last line u were on magnus's side or Nikita's side😂
If you see the avaliation bar will see it was always draw
Finally, Magnus Carlsen with well-groomed hair.
Spot on lol
Yeah, indeed. His brains are working spectacularly, but his appearance is a whole other story.
He stopped drinking so much. He was going thru post covid depression just like everyone else
Oh, that explains why he played such poor chess since a long time now.@@TheLfamily24
But his trousers are wrinkled, though.
12:27 was . ...Qf4 better? And earliet in the game, was. ...h4 at some point better. I guessed that general strategy for white was to double tooks and capture pawn f7 and then win in pawn ending.
black could not play ...Qf4
Yeah…if you’re looking to lose. You’re giving up a queen for a rook and the queen is his only Backline piece remaining. It’s impossible to win with king/pawn vs king/pawn/rook…
A very nice little match, lovely pace, thanks for posting.
This, my dear Magnus, is a chess board.
😂
I think he was pointing at the microphone.
Camera
What are you inferring.
The table was too narrow without a place to rest his elbows to calculate.
I'm sure the tables would have been to FIDE specification as per the FIDE handbook C.02.4: For all official FIDE tournaments the length of the table is 110 cm (with 15% tolerance). The width is 85 cm (for each player at least 15 cm). The height of the table is 74 cm.
Chess base india videos is incomplete without sagar’s commentary
With respect, I liked it without the commentary. You can really *feel* as if you are at the table when all you can hear is pieces getting exchanged and sound of the clock being pressed. Much better than a prepared commentary. No offence to Sagar. He is a wonderful chap!
I assume those are small cameras on each side of the board. If that's the case why do they have them? Thanks.
Once you touch a piece, you have to move it. Probably to watch if they touch a piece. There is even a point in the video where Magnus wanted to move a piece, but decided not to, and looked towards the judges to see if they noticed anything.
Drawing with black to a 300 elo difference is almost a victory.
Here's the proof that it doesn't work that way 😅
Good game both players!
Being able to draw with someone more than three hundred points higher than you is quite an accomplishment!
I so wanted him to get his hand caught in that little camera trying to make a move and then snap it off.
Well played John Mayer
💀
Commentary??
Are those cameras?
The moves are straight to the point.
Well played chess match in a fine endgame
Why not a Petrov defence ?
⚜️ Oh! It's the "if You need to ask - thingy", Sir. ⚜️
Omfg I thought there was c5 c4 trapping the bishop but white has Qxg7 😮
Yeah pretty standard stuff
@@Chessdrummer83 Yes
that moment when you think 'oh NO.' the relief when you find a defense. but . . . . that sinking feeling . . .
@@hildebrand142 Getting the bishop trapped would be horrible. I am Arena Fide Master a title called AFM
nikita must be thrilled with that game. Not easy for a player rated 300 elo lower to get a draw.
It is when you play like a coward and trade everything down.
@@wellutopia2237 He was even playing with black, you know.
@@wellutopia2237 Why would you play an opening with a 51% draw as White? Of course Magnus knew this, and he played anyway, Petrov drawing the game is incredible considering Magnus is the best finals player of all time
@@wellutopia2237 did you start watching chess 2 days back ? how come is it cowardly ,its very normal in chess to trade pieces to simplify the game and specially when you are playing against the greatest chess player of all time.
and to challenge Magnus in the end game is a feat.
sagar bhai will you cover this tournament live?
No
After this Magnus activated the god mode
Bro is there a vid of that?
Magnus played so fast in accurate moves
Why not black pawn take white pawn (F5) at 12:33 ?
After that if white rook takes pawn, pawn, queen takes rook.
Am I missing something ? Is that not a good move?
you are missing that you dont see more than 1 move ahed, after black takes f5 white plays rf3 and whole black position is destroyed with double rooks + quuen couldnt protect other isolated pawns against stacked rooks…
Bravo JKD1:44
Tough game
Petron usurped 6 mm of table space for elbows --> I sm sure that was why Carlsen complained.
Petrov (not Petron).
What's that? a mic?
I thought two rooks beat a queen in the end game. (Obviously the engine didn't think so.)
Interesting point I caught as well. I assumed the engine took into account the relative positions as well.
What's that lady doing with the microphone during the intro?
What are those things attached to the board?
cameras
@@parthshady5981 That's a stupid place to put a camera. I can see why Carlsen's upset.
@@00bikeboy are other players upset as well due to that or only Mag?
@@00bikeboy thats such a minor inconvenience... the camera angles are great for the audience
nostril cameras
No one will steal chess board, now i get it
i don't know if the mic belongs there or is it just unconscious thing that it belongs there. lol
Do they have to say something when they offer a draw? Or is it just a nod?? I wonder if a nod has ever been interpreted as "I give up" ?
The position alone is usually enough to interpret it correctly.
Loving the Puma outfits😍😍😍
didnt know john mayer played chess
nikita played with asolid defence to the end very interesting match
He just traded everything off. I could see a tiny little bit of frustration in Carlsen(At least thats how i saw it). Has to suck when your opponent 300 elo below you just play a drawish line trading everything off. Didnt come to play. Cowardly.
on board go pro, or anti cheat sencing device?
Microphone most likely. Doubt they would use a camera that small when they have giant professional ones right behind the players designed for high def.
@@wellutopia2237 It actually is a camera. In the FIDE broadcast it occasionally cuts to a very silly camera angle where you see an upward shot of the opposing player from between chess pieces that look massive in the foreground. As you said, they have proper professional cameras, so I don't know why they did that.
@@taylaca Oh interesting and unusual and ridiculous.
Co to? 1:25 Dlaczego?
0:30
Someone playing the first move is kinda dumb. Id have them play the first move, but do something else when the game starts. A true chess tactic
Magnus asked him to play E4 if i see correctly.
They often take back the move and play something else. It's just for the photo, no one takes the first move seriously.
@@SmigGamesone time his first move was something ridiculous like h4 and he just pretended not to care and played it out to win.
Why not Queen take pawn at F6 at 13:40
Apologies I am very new to chess but cannot understand why the pros aren’t making some of these moves which seem better than what they make next
White follows with Rd6 pinning the queen and taking it away in exchange for a rook will be a disaster.
Viendo el reloj ?
Why didn’t he challenge magnus on e4 right away?
Where can one get that chess board. Anyone have a link
Chess house or house of Stanton site, those are the the big two sites for proper chess sets
It’s a DGT board.
I don't see the Ruy as being as good for white as i used to think.
And 4...Bc5, i find hard to meet too!
Thank God no talking just chess
Someone might already have adjusted his pieces...
Magnus didn't like the black knobby thing at the middle?
That's a stockfish transceiver.
0:53 - 1:11 I thought she was going to be standing there with the big mic like that the whole match.
Wait did Duda and his opponent not shake hands?
I guess they had done it "beforehand"
The beeping noise in the hall. Annoyed me too.
Magnus discovers the wonders of a comb and hair gel.
who won ? was it a draw?
Nikita, vamosssss
Bravo Nikita!
I came here for the coughing competitions, but instead watched a very compelling game of chess.
Who has won?
I want to know background reporter name❤😂
N petrov is the next anatoly karpov, sharp and hard to beat, in 3 years ahead he will be world champion! No one doubt it!
Great end game two rooks Vs a queen 😮
Glad John Mayer picked up chess 😅😁
I have no idea what I just watched. Was there a winner?
No doubt
Magnus loves his pieces positioned nicely. Now his microphone was not positioned well and descretely. It looked like a black piece checking his king.
How did he win?
draw
Who won
Who is the woman that holds the mic?.??
Charlize Van Zyl. Reporter for the livestream broadcast.
So what was the problem for Magnus?
Nice battle but much simplification in the middle game. Looks like Nikita was aiming for end game.
It was actually the blonde that got him flustered, then he was looking for a reason to blame it on.
Someone explain why/how Magnus gave up his queen. Is it normal at this level to play two rooks against a queen?
Yes, the rook pair can give checkmate. The queen alone cannot.
Yes two rooks are usually stronger or equal to a queen, depending on how open the position is.
Trust Magnus he knows his stuff.
Sure. A queen is worth 9 points and rooks are 5 points each. Two rooks for a queen is thus a small theoretical advantage.
that would bug the sh*t out of me
Paso algo ahi.
0:23 what is that girl doing in the background? She seems like so Lost lol
And what is she doing at 0:40?
she seems Like to get eye contact with Magnus then the man in between, she annoyed, she s a Robot? 😛
I'm 11 or 12 hundred Elo and I feel magnus should have just exchanged pawns in the end game.
Opponent was looking for a draw and nothing else 😂
Who is win
Draw
Connor Mc’Gregor at the second table
Magnus showed up on time AND there's 15 minutes on the clock. What even is going on?
Who is see I mean what is her name
Was it draw?
Well played.. Black
Is that an electronic chess board? Probably what bug Magnus!
Why nikita didn't take magnus knight at 2:30 with his Bishop it was free
the night is pinned
magnus will take back his bishop with the queen , and Nikita can't take the queen with his Knight because its pinned to the king by white bishop at a4
Because Nikita was busy
The knight protecting it on c6 is pinned, so Bxd4 Qxd4 is possible, and Black has given up the bishop pair unnecessarily
@@vivek-lz5rtoh yeah thanks I didn't noticed it
But was it draw or Magnu just resigned?
Of course, it's a draw.
If the opponents have agreed to a draw, then they put their Kings in the center of the board on fields of different colors: white puts their King on a white field, black - on a black field.
If black concedes defeat, then the opponents place their Kings in the center of the board on the white fields.
If white admits defeat, then the opponents place their Kings in the center of the board on the black fields.
@@Alexander_Goosev Thank you for this explanation.
