  • We spent a few days mapping the famous Rimrocker overland route. This trail connects Montrose, Colorado to Moab, Utah via primarily 4x4 roads. We wanted to share with you not only the cool bits and pieces of this amazing route, but how we map our trails, and how we collect our data. Come join us for a great time overlanding the Rimrocker Trail!
    This is a how-to and a day in the life of a Trails Offroad contributor.

      After pulling my m-416 from Georgia the last few miles were torture ! Honestly I think anticipation of Moab mixed with sadness of the end of the trail made each bump much worse than it actually was. I would not hesitate to pull my trailer over again .

    That "first water crossing" is Tabeguache Creek. You crossed it on a bridge well before you entered Nucla. The river you are looking down on from the mesa rim is the Dolores River.

      Thanks man! I put a waypoint on it.
      I’m going on the trail in May 2023 and I’m concerned about the trees & brush scratching our trucks. The trail looks very narrow especially on the UT side. We’ll have a Raptor and a modified F-150, is the trail wide enough?
      The area of concern is between coordinates: 38.35811, -109.31901 and 38.40989, -108.93364. Thank you!

      The best thing to do is head over to the trail page (Link is in the description of the video) and check out the information there. If you are all access member, you can ask the trail writer what he thinks and he can also give you pointers and other great info.

    • @Trailsoffroad
      @Trailsoffroad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Per John, he says you would be fine but should avoid the end of the trail.

      You should be good. but it is always best to log onto our website and review the trail first. the link to trail is in the video description above.

      Hey Felix, the answer to your question and a lot more details is on our site. The link is in the video description above. If you still have questions, you can ask the writer on the trail page and they will let you know what they think.

      @@Trailsoffroad thanks for the reply! It's a featured trail so I assume it's the same content as it would be with all access and between the site and the video it looks doable but watching some other videos on TH-cam there seems to be some steps after the UT/CO border going west that could be sketchy.

    Was this actually in July, or earlier? I was just out in Pagosa Springs and also did the Alpine loop back in August in my F250. Planning my trip for next year and thinking about doing Rimrocker. Usually just try to stick to easier to moderate trails in the big girl lol.

    Do you edit in GIS? I tried to do my trip planning in Gaia, but quickly fell back to using GIS again. I find folder management very difficult in Gaia.

    • @Trailsoffroad
      @Trailsoffroad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use several tools, but many of use use GAIA for the initial recording.

    • @markcarpenter3600
      @markcarpenter3600 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Trailsoffroad okay cool, you have very clean tracks. I usually have to do some cleanup afterwards.
      Sometimes I will drive in a tight circle to note a spot that I will need to cleanup. Faster than dropping a pin.
      I'm just used to working in layers and Gaia doesn't do that well. I spend more time than its worth yelling at the computer. One thing I do like about the Gaia app is how it drops points. Seems to droop fewer points in straight aways, similar to the way APRS works. Other apps that I use drop pins on a time basis, I usually choose 1 per second.
      I would love to have a higher quality GPS, but there so expensive.

  • @markgraf9695

    could this be done alone?

    • @Trailsoffroad
      @Trailsoffroad  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is safest to never travel alone, there is a long list of things that could happen while alone that could be deadly that if you were with someone else it wouldn't be a big deal. Thus we believe is it is best to always travel with at least two vehicles, if not more.
