i think indranee needs to work to her salary's worth..
addressing birth rate issues isnt about blaming global trends or blaming zodiac/fengshui.. nor does superficial giving once-off angpows help..
when was the last time that ministries collaborated together to work on issues? childcare availability, cost of living, cost of bringing up a child, public housing prices, diversifying career routes and definitions of success, etc.

I am surprised that not a word on "cost of living" is mentioned.. Did someone deliberately ignore the elephant in the room? Come on, the cost of living, housing prices, car prices, work pressure, retrenchment are increasing relentlessly. How many young couples want to bear the significant additional pressure of having babies? At this rate, the blissful retirement of a couple is questionable so why bring more babies to suffer the worse? Just to be clear, working until 65 or 70 so as to make ends meet should not be a norm. It mainly serves the country's GDP ambition rather than individual humane aspiration.

We go tourism to such countries and see only the good side. The decline in fertility rates isn't solely about affordability. Childcare centers often fail to provide adequate support beyond regular work hours, leaving parents, with limited time for family and personal activities. Finding time for a date night becomes nearly impossible without accessible facilities to care for the children.
Many parents finish work around 6 pm and must rush to pick up their kids from childcare before 7 pm to avoid penalties. Additionally, frequent instances of children falling ill can quickly deplete parents' annual leave, especially when each absence requires a day off work.
Pregnant women who rely on public transportation face safety concerns during peak hours when commuting to and from train stations, highlighting a lack of support for their needs. These issues remain unaddressed.

The parental leaves itself are GROSSLY insufficient for one child, much less catering for two to three kids. It’s inadequate to the point where it forces some parents to either apply for unpaid leaves or MCs to make up for it. Needless to say, unscrupulous managers would then use it as an excuse to give “poor performance” appraisals during bonus periods.

1)Indranee is not suitable selling marriage and birth rate role because she has neither. You cant sell what you never believe or lacking passion. Therefore she has no story no to share with Sporeans but listing haphazard benefits 😆😂
2)Indranee starts the role by being political defensive with push back saying low birth rate is global phenomenon so SG should expect more or less the same TFR like Korea and Japan therefore dont expect much from me to have the ability to increase SG's birth rate. A person comes with such sales mentality is not suitable for this role.
3)This role requires someone with entrepreneurial creative can do mindset and attitude not a process control skill mindset

The government could give me all the money in the world and I still wouldn't make a baby just because they require a lot of time and attention. I would not want to give that attention to a little human I do not know, and would prefer to focus it on nurturing the existing relationships I do have in my life now. Economies around the world need to learn to tap better on technology so that even with a global population of 2 billion, we can be more productive than having 9 billion. For mental health reasons, only those who really want kids and know what they are getting into, should be having kids. The question shouldn't be about how to modify people's choices, but how to produce the best outcomes for a smaller population (for Singapore and the world). And, a smaller population would allow for a larger carbon footprint per person while still reducing global warming, which is an existential threat, and therefore allow more comfortable consumption levels for everyone in the world.

Clean out all the rampant prostitution in residential neighbourhoods and confined them to only Geylang or Orchard/ city. Casual sexual services doesn't encourage family fertility rather it destroys family life. Females are objectified and cheapened in such industries. Extend maternity leave to at least 6 months for Singaporeans, provide more subsidised nursery daycare, eldercare. Build larger livable apartments that aren't the size of hotel rooms with enough personal space for each family member. Reduce the cost of cars for Singaporean families living with children/aged parents as it is an important tool to transport children and elderly around. Provision festival celebrations/ holiday activities within Singapore to encourage Singapore citizens to spend more time doing family bonding activities. It is imperative that working parents have sufficient time to connect emotionally to build happy family memories with their children while they are still growing up. These memories will help build a solid family foundation and a sense of belonging to the family and their country. Job stability and opportunities for citizens and sufficient income levels to meet the living needs are also a big factor.

Society and family has too high expectations on young couples. As a result they tend to defer marriage. They are put off by the pressure. The expectation from family friends and society. I, now a parent make it clear to my son I do not expect grand weddings nor look fantastic. I told him them has my support to date around early in life rather than defer, as statistics shows that odds are against them. Maybe take a thought about what Mark Lee told his daughter that if she dates and get pregnant he will go all out to support them😂😂😂😂. Family support is important. Micro managing is not supporting per se, if you micro-manage, your children will not grow to think for themselves.

If single women had a bigger flat, and allowed to have IVF, they would have more kids. It’s hard to find a partner for women now.
