Reportedly, when Patrick Stewart heard about the movie, he didn’t want to see it; he didn’t like the idea of a Star Trek parody. Then, Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker) called him and said “You MUST go see it”. Apparently Stewart was the one laughing the loudest in the theatre.
Interesting considering how hateful of Star Trek his own recent productions are.

First, that was an awesome burn!
Second, I heard that several years ago at some convention, Star Trek fans were asked to rank their favorite Trek movies and Galaxy Quest actually made it to number 4 even though it isn't a Star Trek movie! It really is a good movie. It spoofs but never in a mean spirited way. Even my 78 year old mother loved it.

@@ladyshar42 I would put it up there with the best of them, for sure. I'd put it behind only Star Trek 6 and 2 and possibly 4. Pretty impressive achievement considering it's not even Star Trek!
The best thing about this movie is that it was made by people who understood sci-fi fandom and what these shows truly mean to the people who watch them. So yes, it is a parody, but at the same time it is a love letter. That's why it is SO good!!
Have you ever seen the deleted scene with Tech Sargent Chen? It is hilarious! @@vandergrad What makes it funny is that when he says "What does that mean?" he *LITERALLY* doesn't understand what it means, but they are so convinced that he's the genius engineer that they interpret it as him testing them. So funny. Too bad it had to be cut for time.

This is a very rare thing--a perfect movie. There's not a single wasted scene. Everything comes together just right. Well worth watching the documentary about it, called "Never Surrender".
I love how they nailed all of the setup and payoff: The Omega 13, Justin Long and the communicator, the
Grabthar's Hammer line, Guy getting a surname. So many movies and shows today are missing either the setup or the payoff like Game of Thrones and Disney Star Wars.
The jokes must flow from the story, you can’t just crowbar ‘em in.
Lets get out of here before one of those things kills Guy.
I say this line often. I used to quote Eric Cartman and say 'Screw you guys. I'm going home", but this replaced it.

I'll ABSOLUTELY watch the Star Trek movies, if you post them! Side note, in a lot of surveys ranking the Star Trek movies from worst to best, Galaxy Quest often makes the top of the list, even though it's not even Star Trek 😍😁

It's funny how when Dr. Lazarus says the "By Grapthar's hammer" line to Quellek when he is dying it is surprisingly emotional because for the first time in his career he says it with actual meaning. I actually get a lump in my throat in that scene.
To me, the funniest bit is when Gwen finds out that the Thermians believe the "historical documents" are true and she says, "Surely you don't think Gilligan's Island..." to which they respond with, "Those poor people..." *I DIED*
Of course, that scene also contains the worst shot in the movie. After Mathesar says that, they decided to add some terrible ADR of Rickman 'saying' _"Oh, brother..."_ as he turns away, even though his mouth never moved. I hope someone was fired over that...

Now this is a terrific movie.
This is in my top tier movie list because, I mean, come on. How can it not be? It's fun. It's lighthearted. It knows what it is and what it's making fun of, yet it also is serious enough to bring a tear. Man, I just love it.
You skipped the best part--the ending! Everyone who watches a reaction to this movie specifically waits for that glorious epilogue.
Also skipped Gilligan's Island. I was waiting for that.
True. That's the only reason I even made a comment on this video. How can you watch an entire movie except the last couple of minutes, where it's truly wrapped up? Kinda annoying lol.
It is amazing the number of people who will admit that whenever someone says "Never give up" they automatically respond "Never surrender".

@@MetalPharoah No I get that, it’s crazier that he was caught drug trafficking BEFORE his Home Improvement days. I don’t like his views, his acting however has always been pretty good.

Alan Rickman came from Theatre, That has to hit home for him :) RIP to FANTASTIC actor.
Sam Rockwell's scream was ad-libbed, Caught Sigourney Weaver off guard, she really did jump in shock.
If you saw this in theaters, the curtains were kept at a narrower aspect ratio up until the point where the doors open and he sees the stars when he's getting sent back to Earth the first time. When that happened the theater opened the curtains all the way and the aspect ratio widened as he saw all those stars. It was a really awesome moment.
The makeup and animatronics were done by Stan Winston, same guy as the Jurassic Park movies

This is a great film, but it always make me sad about Alan Rickman all over again. By Grabthar's Hammer, you shall be remembered.
Now, when I clicked on this. TH-cam randomly suggested a film to me that I might want to buy or rent, and a quick search of TH-cam shows that no one has ever reacted to it. I offer 2011's 'Cowboys and Aliens' as a suggestion.

Yes to Star Trek reactions. Trek is making a comeback! The Chris Pine cast is coming back for a part 4 and Paramount announced they’re doing a full 4K restoration of Star Trek The Motion Picture The Director’s Cut.
What's funny is I've never seen any Star Trek movies or the TV series, but because of pop culture and being referenced so much, that watching this back in the day I KNEW it was like a Star Trek parody, but it is so well done. Its a definite classic!

to be honest, i wouldn't even call it a parody..... it's more like an homage with comedic elements
Galaxy Quest one of the best Star Trek films ever. As for you doing Trek, absolutely. Now in fairness Trek is best as a tv show, and films are very much a hit and miss (the TV shows can be all over the place in quality in each season, but the best TV episodes are all significantly better then the best Trek film), but I still love seeing people watch them. I say do them all from the Original Trek films, to Next Generations Trek Films, to the reboot Trek films.

this movie is like the definition of a cult classic. highly underrated and loved by all who "get" it haha my group of friends and I or my "tribe", we always watch this movie on new year's eve as a tradition. I can't remember how it started but even with the pandemic, the tradition has yet to be broken. great reaction, as always Tim. 😃
I have no issue admiting I cried many times in this movie. Such a great parody that its not just all sillyness.

If I recall correctly, the space station the ship launched from was the remnants of the Thermian homeworld.
Yeah I noticed this advertised being at the theater but didn't take notice. Then later it was a new release on the cable tv channel HBO so decided "Meh, I'll watch it I guess". I laughed so much. I thought "Where did this come from?!".
Galaxy Quest has been called the "best Star Trek movie ever made". You should search for reactions from Shatner and Nimoy to it. They're quite funny.
Love thia movie but it's interesting that what happened to Tim Allens character were the troll fans made fun of them happened to William shatner.

Actually, considering how the first Toy Story movie was released into theaters FOUR YEARS BEFORE Galaxy Quest (if I remember correctly), it’s probably the other way around.

Joe Frank is the voice of the computer.. do yourself a favor and youtube "Joe Frank Monologue"... the man did some of the most brilliant, funny, weird and compelling spoken word recordings ever. An unsung genius.. and probably why he was hired for this.. someone was a fan.

When I first became a nurse, I finished my training, and my first day on my own, I finished with report and headed out of the report room to start my shift. I froze, paralyzed by the weight of responsibility, and a couple of lines from this movie popped in my head "I changed my mind. I wanna go back" , and the "After the fuss you made?". Thankfully, I only my froze for a moment. Still a nurse.
After more than 20 years since release, I dub this movie a #classic

Funny the actors from Star Trek said this was probably the best Star Trek movie ever made. After watching it they said why didn't we do that, why didn't we think of that. Lol. When Guy screams it wasn't in the script and Sigourney was actually scared. When they go through the chompers Sigourney says f÷#% that but it was dubbed out.
It's not a parody. It's an homage.
All of the stuff at the beginning at the convention were things that happened in Star Trek conventions. Except for the aliens.

25:28 Some people don't notice it on first viewing, but Gwen's lips clearly don't match what she's saying. That's because when the decision was made to make "Galaxy Quest" a more family friendly film, all of the profanity had to either but cut out or dubbed over. Sigourney Weaver decided to dub this in a laughable way so she could say that an F word still made it into the film.

the movie is poignant because, in the end, the actors realize their work has consequences and it impacts other peoples lives
that's why the serious scenes are so effective

Every time I watch this movie I wanna play mass effect .
This is ranked as 7 (I think) on top Star Trek movies, they have accepted it as one of their own.
Such a great movie. Up there with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies in the "this should be way too dumb to be making me feel this much emotions" category.

I grew up in a Star Wars household, so we didn’t own or watch anything Star Trek. It was just the way it was. This for my siblings and I, this movie was our only exposure to that universe. 😂
