So glad you enjoyed this one. I tend to prefer the more obscure, low-key tracks such as this. Morrissey was heavily influenced by the 'kitchen-sink' working class, Northern drama, 'A Taste Of Honey' based on the book by Shelagh Delaney. He admits that he pilfered a lot of the lyrics for this song, from Shelagh's book. This is why his lyrics in Cemetry Gates mention plagiarism, because some people criticised him for his use of Shelaghs words in This Night Has Opened My Eyes. I cant remember which vinyl album it is, but on one of the albums there is the quote 'talent borrows, genius steals', etched into the run-off groove. Its also thought that one of the later singles, Sheila Take A Bow, is a yribute to Shelagh Delaney. This is what you get with The Smiths. So many interwoven references throughout their discography.😊
Good to see more from The Smiths. The song seems to point to the awful choice confronting a woman who is contemplating whether to keep or give up her baby in difficult relationship circumstances. Have you tried the playful “William, it was really nothing”? Or some solo work by Morrissey - Suedehead is great
For me: the saddest song I ever listened to. I have been listening to the smiths since the beginning. this is such a beautifully sorrowful song, its gonna be with me forever. more. There's a really nice youtube vid, that someone pieced together for this...it's well worth a visit. th-cam.com/video/q0-YfgMd02k/w-d-xo.html
Ha! You’ve only just dipped your toes into the Smiths… sqillions to go! Try ‘Shakespeare sister’ or ‘nowhere fast’or many , many more! Song based on the play ‘a taste of honey’ which was an early 60’s kitchen sink’ play (kind of coronation street style) about a young woman, daughter of a prostitute, having a mixed race baby (from a fling) and raising the child with her gay friend … if I remember right (all from memory, no google!).
@@KasperReacts just watched. glad to see you enjoying The Smiths. There really appears to be a resurgence of interest in the band amongst younger people today. Glad you are enjoying them! Can I also recommend that you listen to the Sandie Shaw cover of "I don't owe you anything. It's actually The Smiths playing, but with Sandie Shaw singing. It's brilliant!

Reel Around the Fountain would be a great song for you, to do a reaction vid on.
I've actually already reacted to it when I did the whole album
