I can see that viewpoint. That entire triptych- Antichrist, Mechanical Animals, and Holy Wood- was pure art. But, there's an argument to be made for the raw edges of Portrait and Children being better by virtue of authenticity.
I love how most of these reactors, at the beginning, are like, "What the hell am I watching?" and then by the end, everyone's grooving to the song. 🤘😎🤘
My wife owns a dance studio and was gaving the annual recital. I always did the music from the booth. She said she wanted Beautiful People. I said to her dumbfounded You want Marilyn Manson in your show?! She looked at me like I was stupid and said No it's a Christina Aguilera song. I laughed at her and said Manson wrote it. One of the biggest fights we've ever had ensued! Years later I showed her the writing credits. She was still pissed!
Whenever they want to know why Gen X is the way we are, this is what our Top 40 looked like. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder which is in a jar on my shelf.
And before this we had Ministry and Pantera, Metallica and Mega Death. And after this came God Smack and Disturbed. None of that men who've been kicked in the nuts stuff like the Bee Gees. Our rap was Snoop, Eminem, Dre, NWA, Public Enemy and Anthrax. Manson was a lightweight, Rob Zombie was better.

"I have a message for Marilyn Manson: Satan called. First, he says hi. And your videos are giving him nightmares." David Spade, on "Saturday Night Live"
Mansons career started when he gave Trent Reznor his tape. Trent liked it and decided to help Manson become a musician. You can hear Trents influence in the entire discography of Manson even though they are not friends for a long time now
fun fact: "Beautiful People" song was based on a celebrity party he went to but left early, song reflects how he sees them. His visual style of music is designed to attract attention, as he said, if he sang it like a normal artist, people would not remember him.
I love how some are horrified. I grew up with Manson. It's so tame to me now lol. I view him the way people view 80s hairstyles haha. EDIT: Thats not to say he didn't make some great tunes. Antichrist Superstar is a great album.
Stevie Knight gives the best first-time breakdown of any song/video Ive ever seen. I kinda got it before, but even after many watchings never as well as Stevie gets it on the first watch.
My wife was a goth chick but I was evil incarnate because I wore silver tipped cowboy boots and muscle shirts looking like I should be at a Garth Brooks concert but I was cranking Manson. My wife still fears what's rattling around in my head
Beautiful People are Free People in every meaning , to express themselves, and be glorious in being. Without, the cookie cutter, pressure of conformity. Acceptance of difference, is also beautiful people. I CAN be me and you CAN be you.
When Trent Reznor signed with Interscope, he wanted his own ‘label’ to sign who he wanted. He then signed Marilyn Manson. They then rented the old house where Sharon Tate was murdered by the Manson crazies. Marilyn Manson wrote a lot of the album there with Trent’s help.
Honestly love ❤️ this song 🎵 and album I’m stoked! Cause just like 2 weeks ago I dropped $640 dollars 💵 to get Marilyn Manson’s exclusive VIP Meet & Greet ticket 🎫 at the Slaughter To Prevail, Five Finger Death Punch & Marilyn Manson tour that was just announced, I’M STOKED AFFFF! I can’t wait this is my first time ever meeting Manson and first time ever seeing him live! And I’m happy I’ll be seeing him live and that he’s sober for my first time ever meeting him and seeing him I want to congratulate him on the sobriety and it should be a strong performance also he lost all that weight and now looks like the Manson from the 90’s 🖤🔥🔥🔥 his best albums ever in my opinion are these ones in no order Antichrist Superstar Portrait Of An American Family The Pale Emperor Mechanical Animals We Are Chaos Holywood Golden Age Of Grotesque. All those albums are SOLIDDDD!
I remember how controversial Marilyn Manson was...all the Republicans and conservatives came after him...Fox News constantly attacked him...all the religious right came for him. But he had his first Amendment Right of his own art...he was in your face and didn't give no cares. He was all over the Media back in the day. But he kept on breaking record, selling out arenas and selling records...he became a pop culture phenomenon. The way people complain about Lil Naz X is the way they went after him...at the end he became iconic and a 🐐 Goat Those you try to censor become more legendary.... Because it's called freedom of expression...everyone has their own art.
Wow...only one person kinda understood the message. No Stevie Knight..."Its all relative to the size of your steeple" is not what you thought it was...lol You were the closest on understanding.
My ex boyfriend told me to bring a big boom box ( in the late 90’s) and play this song walking into a local watering hole.. so the crappy people who went there and talked crap would know it was meant for them plus I live in the south so back then really got judged for listening to music like this and they would say he sang devil music.. ugggh 😂😂😂

'There's no time to discriminate, hate every mother fucker that's in your way', that line is so hard. This is probably the best era of Manson. Don't get me wrong I love the mid 2000s social commentary/80s throwback stuff, but this is when being into Mason was shunned. Mid to Late 90s being into Manson was like a haven for outsiders. I still remember getting called into the principles office after Columbine because I wore a trench coat and a Manson T-Shirt to school. They started questioning me about 'gang involvement' and I laughed in their faces. Like we got LKN and GDs all over this school with guns and drugs in their locker, but you're questioning me. Like you want me to turn my T-Shirt inside out, but homie right over there is rocking pure black and gold with a crown on his shirt... and that's fine. No disrespect to LKN, I partied with those dudes, but you know what I'm saying. The Manson kids were not the people likely to shoot other students in the 90s. It made me realize just how clueless the adults were to our world and what Manson was all about.
Yeah old farts from USA were blaming manson for columbine and that shooter listen ed to manson. But columbine shooters listen ed to kmfdm not manson. Manson didnt kill columbine kids, guns did it

This song is a banger! IIRC Trent Reznor helped MM produce some of his albums and this song does sound a bit like Nine Inch Nails

"Capitalism has made it this way/Old-fashioned fascism will take it away" is disturbingly prescient, especially as he wrote it some 30 years back.

😂😂 wow. Me too 💯
This song aged so well, the message is more true & significant than ever before. Societies so easily beguiled, became sheep, and blinded.

They will, only the ones that don't will be offended.
Yup, they are braindead because of the braindead "music" they get fed.
Saw this live in '96. Super crazy experience.
I love watching gen z etc. watching Marilyn Manson, thinking its horrifying, yes this is what 90's rock and metal was like.
I saw this album tour in LA his stage production and subsequent performance., well, was genius!
My favorite catchphrase from the '90s: "I want to be an individual, just like everyone else."
Haven't seen anyone cover Marilyn Manson yet in these mashups.
