I bought the ingredients to try the classic negroni, and to be honest im not sure what everyone is raving about. But on a positive note love your videos steve keep them coming, their interesting, quirky and funny😁
@@sarahgrant6846 It might be too much herbaciousness with the combo of the Gin and bitter Campari and Vermouth. You might like the version Steve is making here better because the sweet mellow rum will add a different dimension to it. But it's totally cool if you don't care for negronis, everyone should drink what they like and pass on what they don't.
Ah... I love this for the "How much?...Probably..." when he knows exactly how much it cost, just the internal battle of whether to heavily round it down. We've all been there when a new bottle appears on the shelf. Feel for you Steve, Smith & Cross is a pretty good, standard mixer here, only a smidge above Wray & Nephew or Appleton Special. Great to see Sagacity - Foursquare rums are incredible
I'm two minutes in but already giving this a like solely for the fear in his eyes of telling his wife how much that bottle cost. I've never laughed so hard in one of your videos!!!
It is quite painful to hear the price, considering a bottle will cost you €25 here (and I don’t buy one until it’s on offer for €20 😬), I feel for you Steve! At least you have your own gin and mr Black, both are not available here...
I gave this a thumbs up solely because of the shit Steve got into with his wife for our benefit. The video was also great. Steven the Bartender is trying to become Steve the Pirate.
I keep Smith & Cross in stock as it is under thirty US dollars in my area of upstate New York. I made myself a Kingston Negroni earlier this week as part of my observance of the glorious seven-day-long Negroni Week. It's one of the best Negroni variations there is and should be experienced annually. I'm very glad you got to taste this rum and this cocktail. The cost for you may be steep, but I'm sure you found it was worth it. Cheers!
Smith & Cross is a staple for me. One of the few rums I could pick out of a blind tasting. It's fantastic in a Pain Killer and an Almost Famous cocktail.
I've been of added sugars and avoiding carbs for 3 years now. Lost 12kg (30lbs) and reversed my pre-diabetes diagnosis. Being off sugar for so long, my palette has reset so that Campari is actually sweet to me and I have to ask bartenders for a short pour with my Campari and soda (vs. the 50/50 they tend to pour in the states). Negronis are full octane of course.
I just had to try this. Dangerously good. Bit of fire from the overproof S&C combined with the natural sweetness of rum and the bitterness of Campari. It's a nice variation on the regular negroni.
Dark rums are seriously under appreciated. A very unique and varied flavor profile. Especially considering they are made in various places with very different techniques. 🥃

Steve, Smith & Cross is readily available (usually) here in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Say the word, my man. We can get you that bottle without upsetting the missus.

I was very fortunate to pick up a bottle of S&C in NZ for a little north of $60. I'm running low now and can't find a replacement. Rationing is in place but I might have to try this one day.
Jojo3672 this got me thinking alongs similar lines. I’m not a big fan of Negronis as they’re too bitter for my palate, but have a girlfriend who loves them, so have been experimenting with Suze based white Negronis. Am though a big fan of white rhum agricole , especially JM, Clement and Dillon, so later am going to try mixing one part Suze, to one part Lillet Blanc to one part a 50% rhum agricole. I have high hopes👍
Very slick transition from Steve's wife's "WHAT?!?" at the cost of the rum into talking about the rum itself. Probably saved his own life right there. Temporarily, at least. 😀
I'm hardly a bartender, but it's most useful as a modifier. That rich, spicy, tea is a nice accent in most cocktails. You can also make a dirty navel by spiking OJ with tatratea 42 and several dashes of bitters. Tatratea 32 is too low proof and too unrefined for me to mix well with. 62 is IMO better than 52 in spirits where its the base, like a Wolfpack or tatratoddy.
So tasty! Just made this :-) as I mentioned in the Facebook group, I hesitate to tell you and your wife how easy to get an inexpensive it was here in Massachusetts :-)
Been staring at the bottles of Smith & across behind the counter at my local liquor store for months and this finally made me buy one. Good god this drink is assertive. Pretty great tho.
RibZe1 That definitely sucks. We still have some distribution problems here like shipping liquor across state lines is illegal in my state (Tennessee). So if there’s a whiskey I love in California, I have to go to California or I can’t get it.
