I Like the Blacktop Filter'Trons they sound somewhere between a fender and a P-90. with no hum. Perfect pickups for cutting through the rest of the band. a Guitar that sounds right is what Gretsch is to me. I love both Guitars sound I am pulled toward the 140th Anniversary more.
Great demo! I have watched this a number of times trying to decide which one I like best. I just got a used 5230T and it is really nice. I think they’re different sounding enough to justify getting the 5210T as well!
Thanks for posting, that was some great playing and tones! This video helped tp sell another 5210 p90 today, looking forward to it getting here ans seeing what I can coax out of her!
Excellent playing and sounding. Thanks for the video ! I have a kind of preference for the P90s in general as they are my prefered mics, but the filter'trons are quite great too ... would need the two then ... dangerous video for the wallet 😉😄
Excellent playing, sir. I have noticed there you have what appears to be some sort of a shim in the bridge pickup cavity of the G5230T-140. I have held two different of those guitars in my hands, and both of those had weirdly loose bridge pickup that almost rattled in the pickup cavity with a movement - was that the case for you, too?
Thank you, and yes.. I've actually returned the guitar now, not because of that, and not because I didn't like it, but because I found a couple other Gretsches I wanted more..😉
@@rednebb Oh wow, that makes three different guitars of this model that I know of having this issue. It seems like they really dropped the ball on at least one batch of these, which is really sad with an "anniversary edition"... It's almost like they used bridge PUs (and PU rings) meant for the hollow body, where they sit a lot higher and therefore need shorter springs around the height adjustment screws...
Hi Ketil greetings from Australia!! Absolutely love your channel!! Please keep making content !!! have a quick question I am thinking of buying the 140th anniversary Jet from your personal experience is this a good value guitar ? Does it compare well with the other electromatic jets , are you happy with it?
Hi, and thank you very much! Yes, it is a good guitar, like most other Gretsches I own and have owned, and it looks amazing! But I ended up returning this one actually, because I found some other guitars I wanted more (this happens all the time..) 😉 It had a little issue though; (especially one of) the pickups seemed loose, like the screws weren't properly in place. So I had to put a little washer inbetween the pickup and the pickup ring to keep it from moving around and rattling..
@@rednebbI have exactly the same issue with mine! It’s a great guitar but I didn’t like the 50s style wiring which caused earth hums at high gain so I had it changed to modern wiring. The loose pickup is annoying so I’ll need to do the same. I have an 2015 5420 and I wanted a solid body with the same control layout but I find these pickups are harsher than that so not completely happy with it yet but it looks great!
Great jamming man. Which is your favorite one? I just picked up a limited edition one of these in shell pink with FTs. It’s sick and I love it already.
Thank you! I liked them both very much, but unfortunately I don't have them anymore, I had to sell/return them to be able to buy other new guitars. (That's how it goes all the time here..) 😉
I don't have this guitar anymore, but I have other guitars with P-90s, and I don't think it's a big issue, unless you use too much gain 😊 In that case, a good amount of noise reduction/suppression could of course be useful.
It was made in China (or maybe Indonesia?) as far as I remember (I don't have it anymore). The Electromatic series used to be made in Korea before, but now I think both Streamliners and Electromatics are made in China or Indonesia. I've had many of these, and my experience is that the quality is very good, and similar, on both series. I've also had several from the Professional series (made In Japan) which cost a great lot more, but they're actually not that much better IMO :-)
Hi Ketil, great playing as always. I fell in love with P90 model (Vintage White) and I'll be buying it most likely next week. I have a couple of questions about the P90 model though, if you don't mind consulting me: - Since it's kind of difficult to tell through videos and pictures, how's the fretboard color and its overall look? Laurel fretboards usually tend to look real pale and dry, which gives the vibe of a cheap guitar and I really don't like it. Have you treated yours with lemon oil or anything else? God, I whish this model had a rosewood fretboard like some other Electromatics.. - How are the frets edges? Were they smooth and well rounded out of the box? - How's the factory action and overall setup? Did you have to mess around with truss rod / bridge height at all? - How's the tuning stability? Is the nut cut properly and are machine heads okay? Sorry for bombarding you with so many questions! Thanks in advance!
Thank you :-) I will try to answer your questions as good as I can.. The fretboard color is brighter than a regular rosewood or ebony fretboard, of course, but it's not an issue for me. I haven't treated it with anything, I normally don't feel the need to do that with any of my guitars anyway. Right out of the box there were some sharp fret edges, but after the wood had settled for a couple of days, it doesn't bother me anymore. The factory setup was very good. Like with most Bigsby-equipped guitars, tuning stability can be an issue, but I will make some adjustments to improve on that eventually. I have no issues with the nut, and the machine heads are ok.. ;-)
Gretsch G5230t vs G5210t:
- Clean:
- neck - 0:12 vs 3:03
- middle - 0:26 vs 3:23
- bridge - 0:32 vs 3:35
Dude. Great playing! I’m not one who usually comments on TH-cam videos, but this is such a solid demo comparison!!
Thank you😊
Amazing playing and sounding!
Thanks 😊
Wonderful. Loved jamming along. Getting some cool Santana vibes here and there

Very nice, talented playing that helps showcase what this guitar can do. Thank you!
Thank you😊
I have that G5230T, and it is truly stunning!!
Thanks for the cool demo.
I see why all of your comments say you like them both. They seem to be equally good at the tones they are trying to accomplish. 👍🏻

Excellent playing My Brother thank you for this video
Love the nod to John Jorgensen and the Hellecasters! Great demo.
Thank you for noticing that 😉
Great playing!
Thank you 🙂
Love that Knopfler esque finger style you got going my man
God damn! There's flames coming off that guitar! Rock N Roll Heaven? No, just a Tuesday afternoon in dudes garage! Impressive!
Excellent guitar 🎸 playing as always.
Thank you!
Yep, really like that Knopfler-esque groove and tension and release in your solos that gives it a moodiness. Phenomenal!

5230 is more powerful and clear tone, whereas 5210-P90 the tone is more warm and is suitable for recording
Is it hard to reach the notes above the 17th fret on the first guitar??
Great playing!
A little bit, but not worse than other similar LP style guitars :-)
Interesting comparison!👍🏻 Do you know the p90 pickups on this model have ceramic or anico magnets?
Thanks! I don't know..
Beautiful
Thanks!
What a player! Nice tone! The filtertrons have more growl besides that both beautiful guitars
Thank you :-)
How do you handle the p90 hum? It seems like I don't have one, for the neck of my Gretsch G5230T I wanted a T-90, I installed it but it has hum.
