I have driven over this bridge several times and it is VERY scary. In fact it is the only bridge I am scared to cross. In one direction, the side barriers are metal bars that you can see through. There is a gap at the edge of the pavement and you can see the water far below. The bridge is VERY HIGH. As you approach it you're at an angle and you can see how high you are going to be and my thoughts are, "I'm going up THERE??" It is also a very long bridge. What is the WORST is that sometimes if there is really heavy traffic, they will allow two way traffic on one of the spans to help alleviate the heavy traffic. You are trapped on that bridge - you must keep going. There are no shoulders. If someone going the other direction ever hit you, you would have no place to go. I try to avoid it.

@@guymerritt4860 I am the opposite; as an autistic woman who could bore for Team GB (I'm British) about them, I have no fear of and am completely, irrevocably OBSESSED with long-span bridges. In short, I'm addicted to crossing them! I live approx. 1 hour 40 mins from the Humber Bridge, which connects the counties of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and has a high water clearance of 30 metres. Tower to tower, it's 1410 metres long. Love it. My 'Happy Place'. Would I cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge? Yes, definitely! AND, what's this epic decadence of crossing one suspension bridge one way over the bay and another in the other direction? Jeez... Excuse me while I faint... I'm too excited. ** Faints **

Try crossing the Mackinac Bridge (I-75) in Michigan. It's longer and has a span that, shoreline to shoreline, is just 28 ft short of 5 miles of open water. On a windy day, it'll test your nerves.

yep we have a bridge in hamilton ontario and when i drove truck and was empty i would never cross it when windy but use the bottom route over a lift bridge because it was safer, these types of bridges with a strong wind are dangerous and when you watch trucks on an open road with strong winds getting blown around its amazing

Hey, that's my comment to without reading yours. Mackinaw Island bridge is by far the scariest bridge I have ever driven on. The bridge sways with the wind and your car will sway too. I am surprised of the great engineering because it's hard to believe that bridge hasn't fallen apart yet.

Years ago some woman driving a tiny car - called a "Yugo" (they don't even make 'em anymore) got blown off that bridge in a high wind. I've driven across it numerous times but as I've gotten older I've developed a serious bridge phobia. I couldn't even drive across the thing, now. To be honest this bridge looks worse because the lanes are really narrow. I wouldn't cross either one...as a passenger or as a driver.

@Paul_Wetor - I think you might be referring to the "Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel", near Hampton Roads, Virginia. That is the one that has a combination bridge and tunnel, and it's span is almost 20 MILES! Oh, it is also a chest-tightening experience to cross...especially if you're on a motorcycle, 🙂. I crossed it once on a motorcycle...quite an event!! The bridge shown here is also "fun" to cross on a motorbike but I've found it easier (done it a few times to get to great riding and camping locations in MD) - you just have to be careful with the grates if you're on a bike.

If you were so scared while driving over the bridge because the lanes were so narrow with no shoulder, why were you tailgating the truck in front of you?

@@radhachetan742 I did watch carefully. The “you” I am referring to is not you personally but all encompassing as in you and the driver and the car. If you count the seconds ( one thousand one one thousand 2 etc )between when the truck passes a mark till you (all encompassing) pass that same mark, you ( all encompassing) it’s usually less than 2 seconds. That’s tailgating. There should be at least 4 seconds in good weather, longer in inclement weather.

“The Gladesville Bridge” as an example the road sits on top of a concrete arch crossing the parramatta river going into the suburbs of Canada Bay and Hunters Hill Sydney Australia check it out on Wikipedia there is a photo of it…this is not a Toll Bridge:

It doesn't look scary to me. One of the 2 spans has a reversible lane. It may be scarier when that lane gets reversed, and both east-bound and west-bound traffic share the same span.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is at the south end of the Delmarva penisula, maybe 100 miles from this bridge? It is an 18 mile crossing, mostly bridge, but some underwater. There are four tunnels in the Tidewater (Norfolk/Portsmouth/Hampton/Newport News) area under the Elizabeth River or the James River. Just don't think about the millions of gallons of water overhead while driving thru.

My other thought is...how are you moving the camera while you're driving? Why is the camera in your hand while you're driving? Put the phone in your phone holder on your dash and leave it there to protect other people's lives, if not your own.

Those lanes are directional. Many times they will have two of those lanes only going one direction, and at least one in the opposite direction. The video does not do the bridge justice. It moves and rattles while on the bridge, the lanes are barely a car width. There is literally no breakdown lane, and the there is grating on the higher span sections.
