I usually do not comment on vids. I’m a Maryland state trooper. I was stationed in the Baltimore area up until 2 weeks ago. This bridge was a big part of my daily routine. Also working the third shift there was many times I would stop and check on / talk to work crews. There was pretty much a constant crew on the bridge. Rest in peace to the souls that perished. This footage is now historical

Thank you Mike for having recorded this previously and posting it now. As someone who took that route often to go around the Baltimore congestion on my past commutes from NC to Mass, seeing this video brought back those fond traveling memories. Now to the present, what a sad ending for so many on this most incredibly unfortunate situation. Your respect to the video by not speaking sent shivers down my back once I realized what you were doing. Your show of respect for the situation was very welcomed and well done. Thank you sir.

It’s another reminder that life is so short and fragile. The people who died in the collapse will never spend the Easter holiday with their families not knowing that it was their last day. 😢 So tragic. Hold your loved ones tight and tell them you love them because you never know when they’re gone. 🙏🙏🙏

Glad you posted this for memories sake. The bridge is going to definitely look different after they rebuild it. Heck. If they were smart they'd just take this chance to tear down the rest of it and rebuild the whole thing with 6 lanes instead of 4. Might as well right?

Peace to the men lost; strength for their families. Build it back; better, wider, stronger, with more protection for the bridge piers. Till then, it's gonna be a mess driving through there.

Be sure to archive this on other platforms. It's now historical footage just like footage of the Twin Towers before 9/11.
As for the bridge, they should put in a suspension bridge with a really long span in the middle and huge towers buffered by islands to prevent collisions in the future.

A nice re-packaging of those two existing videos at your channel. It's admittedly going off at a tangent, but it's personally satisfying to me that the Francis Scott Key Bridge shared a 'birthday' with Vlaďka Prachařová, being opened on her thirty-third birthday. I blog about the female Pop scene of the satellite nations of the former Soviet Bloc at 'Girls Of The Golden East' and Vlaďka is something of a favourite both for her gorgeous voice and looks, too. My latest TH-cam uploading, as I write, was in celebration of her eightieth birthday. I hope that the replacement will be a credit to its memory.

I remember many times riding across the Key Bridge with my father. He often commented that they should put wind turbines on the water to power Dundalk. He died April 21st of last year. What makes this more painful is the Bridge collapse happened on his birthday. He would have been 70 this year.

The 1 critical flaw about this bridge was the lack of protective structures around it.
Concrete dolphins were designed to take on the impact of large ships before it strikes the bridge support pier.
I find it sad that America's richest state by median income CANNOT afford a few million extra dollars for protection around an important bridge.
States like Texas (Port of Houston) are definitely ahead of the game here.

    • @flydragon7256

@@Graphics_Card The Sunshine Skyway was rebuilt in 1987 with these protective structures after the May 9, 1980 catastrophe. Other bridges with protection include the Arthur Ravenel (SC), Golden Gate (CA), and the Betsy Ross Bridge (NJ/PA).

You are 100 percent correct, thats all it would have taken a little bit of protection. VERY SAD😢COULD HAVE VERY EASLY KEPT THAT BOAT 100 FEET AWAY FROM THE MAIN PILLAR.

@@DarylBoettcher Not easily. That ship weighed 100,000 tons and was moving. I can't do the math but Thats an enormous amount of energy. The new bridge will no doubt be protected.

So much steel and so skinny!!
The new span will undoubtedly have wide break down lanes on both sides of a four lane twin tower cable stayed bridge. Wait for all the bickering to start over what the towers look like, or if the approaches need to be realigned, etc.. The New Bay bridge took about 15 years to sort out the little details before they started....
