Hi Dave, thanks a lot for this video and your thoughts to Suunto Race. Suunto said same to the suunto vertical. That they will fix the bugs in a firmware update and beg for patience. The update on my vertical comes at 2 month....but the lag is still there. Now i'm ordered the "race" and i'm very excited for the experience.
I hope the lag gets fixed but I feel it’s a processor issue. Case in point we have a seven year-old iPad at home that we still use and the lag is definitely noticeable nothing to do with the device itself. It’s just that the processor can’t handle any of the modern apps. Thanks for watching and thanks for your feedback.
You spun through the screen with minimal lag. All watches suck on HR unless you get a chest strap. The updates have worked for most users. You can easily change the strap. 965 costs a fair bit more and had plastic in the body. Race & vertical are both brilliant IMO.
@@adammillsindustries. the lag is minimal, but noticeable compared to other devices. TBH, the Apple Watches I’ve tested, along with many Garmins and others have better hr readings. That’s just my experience. I do agree that the 965 is not nearly the same as the race as far as build quality. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience/opinion. We can’t always agree on the opinion of users, but we can respect them 👍. Cheers, and all the best with the Race. If they fix the lag with firmware, I am really tempted to pick one up.
I have a 955 and Fênix 7 solar and when I bought Suunto Race I knew what I'm buying and the reasons why I'm buying. Instant pace a pace changes more reliable than Garmin, both in dual band frequency, better screen, ,less features we don't need, great build quality, and a small lag is a non problem. It's one of best Suunto watches and you arrive complaining about nitty gritty details. But well,is your perspective. In my point of view, Kudos to Suunto, made a great watch, with a beautiful display and great construction and way cheaper than the epix 2 , forerunner 965 etc. just seems that kind of reviewers who uses iPhone all the time and when review an android phone, give a negative review just for the fact he just stuck on Apple ecosystem. Baaaa
That’s the thing. Everyone has their opinion about everything and we can’t all agree. But that’s not a bad thing. I hope they update the firmware, and that will make all of the difference. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Absolutely agree with you mate. Trust me I have been using the Suunto race and is a fantastic piece! Of course tye heart rate us bad but that is with most watches. I pair it with the most advanced fourth frontier X2 and vola you have the best of both worlds! The lag is not noticeable at all...at this.price point I will buy it again..no complaints
@@chirantanmukherji640 I ended up getting one again and have been using it for the last while. Yes, the screen is laggy as hell but for $600 CDN, the battery is amazing and the big bold sapphire screen is beautiful. I am swallowing my own review as we speak. Paired with a Polar HRM strap and it’s a joy to wear. Thanks for taking the time to comment! Cheers and Happy New Year.
Agreed. After my initial frustration with a couple of small little things, it has been on my wrist for the last six months. For the price it is a brilliant piece of hardware. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Even if it's not the most important thing, It's good to talk about this bracelet, because no one says it but I completely agree with the fact that the buckle does not stick and hangs. Good points. I want to like this device, and they are not true dealbreakers, but I can’t own too many watches as that will lead to some issues with my spouse 😆
I unfortunately had to get rid of my Forerunner as the ‘boss - my wife 😆’ said - you don’t need another watch!! Having them both, they have their pro’s and cons. Overall I like the hardwear and price on the Suunto - can’t beat sapphire for durability. For the Forerunner, it has better internals in my opinion and it’s hard to beat the Garmin ecosystem. Each very good in their respective ways. The HR is really terrible on the Suunto but I wear a chest strap HRM so I could care less.
@@rizkyadhi7959 well I sold my Forerunner as it was too ‘delicate’ for me. Ended up re-buying a new Race and liking it a lot despite the relatively minor problems. Still waiting for a firmware update. Thanks for your support! Cheers.
You’re welcome. According to DC Rainmaker, Suunto is supposed to be coming out with a firmware update (and may have already) to address the issue with the lag.
You’re not the only one. Everyone is saying about the lag. It’s actually worse on the Suunto vertical. But they bought everything in house now, including the the sports tracking algorithms. So hopefully they will release updates to resolve or at least make the issue better. But in this day and age lag shouldn’t really be a thing when even the likes of Polar have made great strides in fluidity of the OS. And Polar have like Suunto a long history with lag. Unfortunately it’s the very type of thing that will hit sales numbers hard. Everybody has said about this problem, so that really can’t be good!
I agree with you on all points. I love all the places to not spend the money, this is not one of them in my opinion. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I appreciate the support. Cheers.
Dave, thanks so much! Just stumbled on your channel...have been looking at this watch for months and I've seen the lag mentioned, but this was a great update on this issue. I started out with Suunto decades ago with an Advizor, upgraded to Ambit1 and then an Ambit3 which I really like and was thinking about the Spartan or the Vertical, but that's around when Suunto was going through all the goofiness with MovesCount and also seemed like there we nagging hardware issues, so I moved over to Garmin and the Fenix 6 Pro, which I do really like still but now looking for the next upgrade. The Race is (was?) a contender...Apple Ultra still isn't there yet...Coros is enticing, but I'd really like to return to Suunto. Maybe I'll wait to see IF their software upgrades have any effect on that lag issue or if they're stuck with it due to the current hardware configuration. Thanks again...looking forward to checking out your videos!

@@Dogwalkerdave I am sure they will fix the lag at some stage. All in all nice watch but I recon if it was a 44mm or 42mm it would probably appeal to more sports pepole.
I agree with the lag, it can be a dealbreaker, and it is hard to believe this is present on a 2023 watch. I expect minor hiccups here and there as these processors are not as powerful as the ones in smartwatches in order to save battery whenever possible, but not on every interaction and specially not on that much on an AMOLED display. You can probably get used to it as time goes by, but that should not be the point, and I am worried Suunto will not fix it, as the lags present in the Vertical for their release seem to still be present almost half a year later. On the touch functionality, I disagree to a point. Whereas the touch functionality is not helpful in many scenarios when you are doing your activities, and it can even become an annoyance in certain occasions, it is something I appreciate in my daily life when I'm not working out to interact with the watch. It does not have to be as responsive, as fast or as crisp as an AMOLED, but having the interaction helps a lot as you use the buttons only when you really need them, and they maintain their tact and 'clickiness' for longer. I have a Polar Grit X Pro, the touch display for some reason seems to go into sleep if you are not using it (maybe to save battery) so for the initial touch interaction you need to tap and hold the display for a fraction of a second before you make your first swipe in order to read it properly, and it works fine after that. Despite that being a letdown, you get used to it and after that, doing tasks such as reading notifications, setting alarms and timers or scrolling through menus is something that is simply faster and easier to do.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this! Wonderful to hear the feedback.
