  • After 5 years and hundreds of hours of labor my 944 was totaled. I’m beyond sad and heart broken as I was never planning on selling this car and it held a very very special place in my heart.

Wow, so sorry to see this video. But as others have stated, your 944 gave its life to save yours. A testament to the 944 and the engineers that a 37 year old design withstood 5000 pounds of a pickup truck and with a brush guard and kept you safe. Maybe it's worth to buy the car back from the insurance company for the parts and use them to assemble another 944?

I put so much work and effort into this one the thought of trying to restore another car is just overwhelming to me at the moment. For now my focus is going to be to finish healing up and then continue saving to perhaps step up to a more modern Porsche. I also couldn’t agree with you more on the engineering marvel that this car is to be able to withstand that impact the way it did.

Ah man. This is sad to see. Feel bad for you. I have an 83’ 944. I am impressed with how well the back end held up in that accident. Looked like a pretty clean 944 before. I just got my mine all sorted out. They are fun, well balanced cars. Glad you’re alive to speak about it. Stuff like this makes me wish I was a millionaire. I would give you a 944 if I had the means. You deserve to have one by the way you talk in this video.

Really sorry to see this, and as you said the car saved you. Same for me. I had a beautiful 924S, but was hit twice by a tractor trailer on a snowy interstate in Missouri, in 2008. Ended up doing three 360s before the right rear smashed into the median, facing oncoming traffic. So lucky that no other cars came. I was able to get out and get to the side of the road. Suffered a stiff neck for a few days (my hat was knocked off of my head and was in the trunk). But otherwise OK. As you said, the car engineering saved my life. The rear chassis was twisted, so it was totaled. I haven't gotten another 924S yet, but I'm always actively looking for the right one - I miss it still.

Your not being sued by anyone...... See what your insurance company is going to pay you and weigh your options with the accessories YOU have that are still working, The 944 community is alive and ALWAYS there for each other so there’s probably someone with a shell to help you out..... Just sucks that I can’t find any cars that are in great condition for under $15,000 now. Plus I already did so much work on this car it’s overwhelming to think of doing it all again on another one. I have insurance but he hit me so it’s his insurance that owes me. I’m currently shopping for either another 944, 951, or possibly upgrading to a 987 cayman S. It’s all tough with the medical side of things still going on. I have the insurance trying to lowball me and the hospital picking my pocket.

Don't let this car go to the scrap yard. Buy it back from the insurance company for pennies on the dollar and sell it one of the 944 used parts guys around the country. There are LOTS of good parts on your car to help keep others on the road. Update: I see this was from last year. Probably too late. Anyway, I hope you punched the DF driver in the neck for this.

I didn’t have the time or the space to keep it and part it out it still breaks my heart to this day. In a perfect world I would have kept it regardless simply for the emotional attachment I had to it. I took the check from the insurance to pay for most of my new to me ‘86. I’m organizing an outline to put together a new video describing the details of what happened and what I’ve learned from the entire experience to help others be better prepared.

Sure just need to cut the whole back half of the car off and graft on a whole new half. It'll buff out lol.
