    Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode.

This group is a perfect example of what can be accomplished when people embrace diversity and acceptance rather than clinging to bigotry and hate. 2:29 🤣 When someone asks Mitch and Kirstin which of them has the higher voice, they look at each other, shrug, and say, "Maybe Kevin?"
    Among pentaholics, Kevin is known for the beauty of his falsetto. Even when he IS beatboxing, a lot of the high bell tones Pentatonix uses are actually coming from Kevin. You can find Kevin's personal channel here: youtube.com/@kolusola I particularly recommend his KOver of "Down." Also, check him out in "Kiss From A Rose" (preferably the live Vevo performance), from PTX's latest album, "Greatest Christmas Hits."

    It’s testimony to our times that such a diverse group has come together to bless this world with their music without us knowing they are so diverse. I certainly didn’t pick up on it when I first heard them a few years back and they remain on my song list.
    I imagine a world where we all understand it’s our differences that bring us together, not our likeness. How bored I would be if I only lived in the cocoon of like me. We are all the same at the end of the day whether we are gay, straight, curly, white, black or blue, (just threw that one in, had I been asked I would have picked blue). We don’t get asked who we want to be, we just are!
    Please be kind people

    @margretrosenberg420 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    We like to say that #Pentatonix doesn't do covers, they do upgrades, and for the most part it's true. But how do you upgrade a song that's already perfect? Well, if you're Pentatonix you look for a way to make that song more itself. In the case of "Imagine" Pentatonix treats the song and the song's writer with the utmost respect, and engages in a dialogue.
    John Lennon saw that things like religion and nationality divide us, so he suggested that we get rid of those things. But Pentatonix sees that it isn't possible to get rid of religions and nations, so they propose another solution. You see, the real problem is something much deeper than religion, or nationality, or even money. The real problem is the human tendency to reject people who are different. So Pentatonix looks for ways around that problem, and then they show us how a healthy community deals with differences.
    First Pentatonix looks for and finds the things they share with each other, the ways they're alike. And in the process they also find the things that make them individuals. And because they've already found the things that draw them together they can not only accept their differences but celebrate them. Doing that, looking at differences clearly and with love, gives them greater insight. It makes them a stronger, wiser, more compassionate community, and they all benefit from their diversity. Instead of dividing them diversity draws them together, until they can look at everyone and see the one thing that we all share - we're all human. And this means that when they meet someone who is very different indeed, in ways that otherwise might seem bizarre or dangerous, they can still see that fundamental truth, that we're all human, and we're all in this together.
    Unlike everyone in Pentatonix, I'm old enough to have heard John sing "Imagine" live. And that means I'm old enough to have the evening news from December 8th, 1980 seared on my memory: John Lennon, dead. Killed by an assassin who ambushed him when he was coming home after an evening out with his wife, Yoko. For those of us who remember that night, the grief and shock remain as strong now as they were over 43 years ago.
    John had only 40 years on this planet. We have no way to know what else he would have given us if he'd been able to live out his full life; all we know is what he DID give us, his perfect anthem, "Imagine." I wish he'd been able to see this video. It would have made him so proud.

      I have reread your comment and pour it over for about 15 minutes and I am still Blown Away. The way that you approached dissecting the video reads like a dissertation and I mean that in the best possible way. You examined the song and the video from every single perspective . I'm a fairly well-spoken educated individual but have problems putting how I feel about this song into words and I no longer have to because you did it for me. Your comment about Pentatonix making the song More itself is how you perfect a perfect song is sheer brilliance. Absolute brilliance. My friends don't understand why I watch reaction videos but it is for comments like yours.

      @@lesaahrenstein6360 I was late to the Pentatonix party; I first discovered them in September of 2022, about 7 months after my husband killed himself. They've helped me make it through some really tough times.
      Also, I've loved "Imagine" ever since I first heard John sing it. In fact, in my church we sing it as a hymn. So when I first saw Pentatonix's version, and realized that it IS, in fact, an upgrade, without in any way dissing John, I was highly motivated to figure out how it could be both respectful and an upgrade. And the answer to that question is both immensely simple and pure genius on the part of Pentatonix.
      And it does my old heart good to see this kind of wisdom coming from young people. Given the release date for "Imagine," Mitch must have been 24, and I believe Kirstin and Scott were 25. Even Kevin, the oldest member of PTX, was only 28. It gives me hope for the future whenever I see young people leading the way with love and kindness.

    This was the first video to pop up on my screen and I was so excited. Your analogy to the signs being the boxes that we check I found very interesting and appropriate I had not thought of that before. But at that point I don't think you had realized they were each talking about the boxes they would check themselves, that they were holding up boxes randomly. But when you pause the next time I heard you say that you did in fact realize it was what they were saying about themselves. I really thought that the harmony section would break you and I choked when you stopped it. But you went back and I truly appreciate that. I love that you said each one of them deserved a fan for their portion in the wall of sound. Hands down this is my favorite Pentatonix video of them all. As someone mentions in a comment further down how do you upgrade a song that's already perfect? You make the song more itself and I love how she expresses that sentiment. Pentatonix takes a song that was written 53 years ago and updates the message and delivers it in a manner appropriate to the times. That being in this day and age we have very short attention spans so briefly flashing something on a card is the best way to communicate. What saddens me about the entire thing is that I believe in another 53 years the song will still be just as appropriate as is now and as it was 53 years ago.

    Whatever is on the sign when it's passed to a new person is something that is true about both the person passing the sign and the person receiving the sign. They are defining both the ways they're the same and the ways they differ from one another.
    That sign is the reason I never recommend live performances of "Imagine." The live performances are just as good musically, but there's no way to include the sign live; the writing on it has to have been done in post-production.
