      I was looking at Youth Hostels. Used to do that years ago. It seems now that most of the YHA are for groups only?!

    Hello! One thing you should get for your bike, is a cell phone holder. I got me one last month and I love it. I got it on Amazon and it wasn’t expensive at all, and easy to install.

      Go on. You know you can. Only one life, gotta try these things. Start cheap. My Halfords one was about £200, has lasted me 2 years and still going stong, although has a few issues now.

    Berlingos are not expensive you know I bought one 3 years ago for £2000, my daughter has it presently, to assure she can get to works if her own car fails so it’s not collecting miles and is Garage stored . You know Donna Van Senior also bought a Berlingo and goes to the Scottish Isles with her bike on the Berlingo. A friend adapted Donnas Berlingo for very little money. Sometimes Donna rides her bike to camp at Kielder Forest. You can buy double child buggies off Marketplace attach it to your bike and place your dog and camping gear in it. I am sure the lads would attach a buggy for you. Just always have a good lock, a good helmet and clothes. And definitely good visibility so that you can be seen. Enjoy !😊😊

  • @expatexpat6531
    @expatexpat6531 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    You may need mudguards on that. You definitely need a rear reflector and a front light. Maybe also side reflectors on the wheels - anything to increase visibility. Plus also a bottle holder. BTW: I'm the same age as you - I go out on my bike nearly every day. No matter how tired I may feel sitting at home, once I'm out on the road I feel re-energised. Great decision to invest in a good bike! You might like to check out the Ryde Bike café in Mann Street in Liverpool, and you might meet some like-minded people there. I look forward to your videos.

      Thanks for all the info. I will check out the Mann Street Cafe, I've marked it on Google maps now, not really been round the Baltic area, I really need to go there, I worked at the Camp and Furnace as a security guard and it was always a vibrant area.

    Great video love your new bike. So pleased you have seen sense in not quitting the job and going off in a camper van. I started cycling at 65 and am now 70 Thje only comment I would make is that dont you need a rear mudguard to stop your bum getting wet when it rains? The best addition Ive made to my bike is a rear view mirror. You can keep a weather eye on whats behind you all the time. Then sense of freedom is great eh? Just l.ook after yourself precious lady. Once you hit 70 the downward spiral begins. Motivation wanes and the health issues creep up on you. Eat well and stay happy.

    • @travellinglite
      @travellinglite  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, it's scary, not long until 70!! To those of you who are younger, if life is not racing ahead of you at the moment, it will. Don't waste it, don't waste it on a job you hate, on a tough life that can be changed or anything else that make you unhappy. Find little things that make you smile each day. Life without money is tough. so although I wouldn't change anything I have done I would have thought more about where the money is coming from before walking out on my jobs 🤣

    As long as the mind and the body says "Yes!" go for it. A few things like a small mirror and a few fenders will help a lot. And other bikers are willing to help along your new way(s)! Great idea...I can't wait till your heading for your first overnighter, atb, and congrats with your beautiful bike, greetings from Holland, Jan

    • @travellinglite
      @travellinglite  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A few people have mentioned a mirror, I'm thinking about that one. This thing about other bikers willing you along.....well actually it's really true!. Each time I stopped and messed around with my phone or map or getting a drink, anyone with a bike who came by, checked I was OK, it was really really mind blowing. I will do the same, Cyclists ( the real ones not the Just Eats/boy racers etc) are super humans.🥰

    A good looking bike. Is the seat comfortable?

    • @travellinglite
      @travellinglite  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't honestly know whether any bicycle seat is "comfortable". I think you just get used to it. At the moment I am doing hourly increases in my cycling so I am up to 2 and1/2 hours solid cycling at the moment. Once I get up to 4 hours I am going to look for a country trek. Dreaming of the tent and stuff again!!!

    Great! Wow - excitng! I recommend learning the best exercises for hip and ankle flexibility ( the knee iis the bottom of the hip and the top of the ankle). In the Netherlands lots of bikes have gears that are in the wheel hub at the back, and the brakes are in the wheel hubs front and back. This keep the gears clean and the brakes arent affected by wet weather. Are these common in the uk? ( The sitting position is not as forward leaning).

    • @travellinglite
      @travellinglite  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Our chains are not protected on most bikes, thats the bit that we have to keep clean and dirt free all the time for longevity. There are a million videos about cleaning your bike 🤣

    • @jan9562
      @jan9562 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@travellinglite ah, yes. I'm sure your kind of gears are best at hills, too! (I rode a mountain bike around the Wirral for a long while). These Dutch bikes with gears inside the back wheel hub and brakes in both wheel hubs also have encasing around the chain too which is great for low maintenance but a big fiddly bother when you do have to adjust/ maintain the chain. Since in the city most bikes get left out in the rain, and people arent always careful around parked bikes, it s good to have its bits tucked away. Hope you're enjoying yourself !
