What I liked about the movie was that Bardock was by no means a hero but just the protagonist. Bardock like all the other saiyans took great pride in conquering the planets they went to, they would even make jokes about all the killing they've done. While the saiyans were enslaved by Frieza, they were still treated fairly well as far as slavery goes. While it was sad seeing the saiyans get wiped, it did feel like karma.

He's nowhere near what he was, though, even though he is a lot stronger. He's lost Zarbon, Dadoria, and The Ginyu Force. He lost the strongest soldiers he had left in Resurrection F, The Frieza Force was in shambles and being driven out. We see in the Broly movie that he has scouts searching for warriors to rebuild his force. So, while Frieza is much stronger, his empire is nowhere near the level it was before Namek.
@AzulApe again, yeah, he's a lot stronger, but without his forces, he can't build on his empire. He's lost a lot of planets he previously took over. He may be an absolute beast, but for galactic domination, he needs an army, and right now, that army is a shadow of what it once was.

Dragon Ball is dubbed in over 28 languages & is Top 2 most recognizable Anime of all time, so it naturally bring casuals or haters & they're totally missing out on things like this. Dragon ball has such a rich story with so many complex yet simple characters & they all been through hell. This movie is top 3 best Dbz movies imo. Can't wait til she watches OG Dragon ball, where the journey really began. Dragon ball is just so spiritual to me & physically inspiring. Dragon ball was also inspired by Buddhism , the story of wukong the monkey king who was Budhha's disciple. Goku's name is taken from the name "wukong" & Goku is monkey like just like Wukong as well. So you can see why Dragon Ball fans knowingly or unknowingly feel spiritually connected with Dragon Ball. I'm hype for the Wukong video game as well lol Loved their reaction 😎
If your wondering how goku and bardock was seeing the future at the same time, it was because when bardock was starting to develop his abilities from the other alien that gave them to him goku started crying which made him think about his son and caused him to link to him and then he started seeing the future, thats how they both seen the future at the same time when he was asleep and after he woke up
That's exactly what I thought. Goku somehow managed to keep a piece of that power to see the future, and then that power was passed along to Gohan. How else could Goku know who Vegeta and Nappa looked like, as well as 17 and 18, yet he had never met either of them before. Along with Frieza blowing up earth. I guess that after the Frieza and Cell business was settled, that power disappeared.
Yeah...and it's still DBZ. Which just proves how good it could be sometimes, when the movies are made with passion and good motivation, not just for money. And also not underestimating the audience and stop taking them for fools or dumber than they are, by offering them this quality of storytelling, precisely...
Heck yeah, it's amazing for this story! There are only a handful of the features I personally enjoy the dub soundtrack for, the Trunks special plus DBZ movies 4, 6, 8, 12, and GT's Goku Jr. special.
Thanks to the Namek arc, we all know that Frieza's first form power is 530,000 units. Baddaku's is 10,000 units and he is one of the strongest Saiyajin. No chance that even with the help of the other saiyajin could defeat Frieza and Dodoria, Zabon or the Ginyu Commando. No chance. And normally, Baddaku only sees the future, he doesn't read minds, only in the English version.

While it is a good movie (even the metal cooler sequel) however they unfortunately are not canon so it won’t exactly have an impact on the backstory since it’s completely separate from the actual continuity.
It's interesting to note that in the japanese original there is no talk of Bardock redeeming himself, the little speech Goku gives to his father was originally completely silent. Another interesting change is that unlike in this dub where the Saiyans openingly hate Freeza, in the original they had a great deal of respect for him, so the Freeza betraying them was something they never suspected.

Frieza's first form is over 50x stronger than Bardock. No one at this time stood a chance. And Frieza in his final form was over 12,000x stronger than any of the Saiyans. Even if all the Saiyans on the planet attacked at once, they stood NO chance against Frieza. Even Captain Ginyu, who was the next most powerful known person next to Frieza (besides King Cold) at the time was 1000x WEAKER then Frieza. Frieza considered himself totally untouchable, and for good reason.
