IIRC Grandpa Gohan does drop him but that's because he was violently resisting to being held. That being said, that's not canon anymore given Dragon Ball Minus and the Super Brolly movie.

I haven't watched that movie because A) I was never a Broly fan to begin with, and B) I'm generally not a fan of DBS, so in my headcanon, DBS and all its movies just never happened. From what I've read about the movie, though, it seems like they just ripped off Superman's origin story even more than they already had, which kinda makes me feel like DC should give Toei a copyright strike, if you know what I mean.
Goku hitting his head as a baby was never shown in the manga. It was just vaguely described(by Master Roshi) as Grandpa Gohan raising a rowdy kid, who became nicer after hitting his head. Which is also why Goku being a bit older before leaving Planet Vegeta in DBS Broly wasn't actually a retcon, as him being a baby when he arrived on Earth was never canon to the manga.
Something I really like about what TFS did with the Kanassan is they made his mind all muddled to the point that he can't tell past from present from future, which makes sense if you're constantly seeing visions of the future. That kind of power would totally mess with your mind.
Fun fact, the two scientist talking at 10:55 about Goku, is Chris Sabat, the official voice of Vegeta and Piccolo, he makes a few more appearances in the series (Plays Santa in the Christmas Tree of Might special) You can hear his Piccolo coming out in the "You're stupid!" line

Goku being dropped on his head is canon. He was rather aggressive when Gohan (the old man) found him and Goku ran but fell in a ravine. After being nursed back it seemed that Goku's natural saiyajin bloodlust and aggression had been subdued and all his memories of being a sayan were forgotten. He never knew of his saiyan origin until DBZ and recently in the DB Super manga he's just learned about his father.
NO NO NO. Its Not Canon! Not anymore, it was back in Anime, but Its not really canon anymore cause Toriyama revealed the Grandpa Gohan droping Goku, Goku being a BABY when going to earth, and this entire OVA/Special Episode, is something that TOEI forced him to do back in the day, and today he already revealed his own personal version of this story. Which is now the canon version, and the one he did it because he wanted to do it.
Cloister Grandpa Gohan dropping Goku(or at least Goku somehow hitting his head) was a thing mentioned in the manga far before this special came out. Though the other two things you mentioned... yeah, non-canon.

And now you've met DB's arguably most infamous villain, Freeza. He's deeply rooted into both Goku and Vegeta's storylines. He's also the first of what I've heard them called as "The Big Three" of DBZ's antagonists. Vegeta was technically the first main major antagonist, but The Saiyan arc is significantly shorter than the sequential ones. "Doesn't afraid of anything" is an old meme from like 2006-2007. Not sure on its origins, but a lot of my online friends at that time said it a lot. It's a largely dead phrase though. Goku was originally sent to Earth to destroy it. He was a low-level warrior and Earth had no significant threats so Goku was a logical choice. He ended up falling out of his adoptive father's backpack thing and hit his head(this was mentioned in episode 1 with Raditz). His head trauma altered his personality from a potentially violent killer to a kind hearted boy who just likes fighting people who are strong. The abridged series doesn't really touch on this, but Freeza was becoming paranoid over the Saiyans as each generation was producing stronger and stronger babies and they were capable warriors as we saw with Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, and Goku, as well as Gohan(who is half-saiyan). Freeza wanted to snuff them out before they potentially became a problem. Freeza acted on fear, but he's nothing to sneeze at. He's a legit merciless monster. Edit: 16:10 is from Dragon Ball GT, easily the most hated medium of Dragon Ball aside from the live action movie Evolution. GT at least has some good moments here and there and it's nowhere near as bad as Evolution, but it's cringeworthy garbage overall.
But we are actually starting to like Vegeta. Freeza seems like he will always be a villain we love to hate. Though he is great in this abridged series 😂

The version of “You’ve Got the Touch” was originally from The Transformers: The Movie which came out in 1986. The song at the beginning is also from that movie. Its title is “Dare”. A lot of 80s music references in this parody.

He's on an episode of Hellsing Ultimate abridged as well if I remember correctly. Dodoria was kind if a beast back then and even for a low-class warrior Bardock got pretty strong after his healing in this. With a Powerlevel of 10.000 he was a big number around the other Saiyajins. But unfortunatly.. Dodorias Level was 22.000. And you will like Freeza. He is kind of the Thanos of the Dragonball Universe, but more likeable. Because he is funny. And british thanks to the legendary "Little Kuriboh" + "Lanipator" voiceactor.
When I was a kid and my uncle showed me this movie I instantly liked him more then Goku or Vegeta. Even though he's just goku with a different voice(like Turles-Gokus brother) he is what Goku would have been if he stayed on planet vegeta and fought Frieza to the death.

Basically Coolers original motivation to not blast Gokus pod was, that if this is Friezas downfall, it served him right, because he failed at exterminating the saiyans. Which is ironic, as you will see in the abridged cooler movie.

There are multiple Dragonball Series: Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball GT didn't have the original creator Akira Toriyama involved, is no longer cannon and that cringy dance szene was from that series. It's like "We don't talk about THAT series !" within the fandom... except when we do, because despite it being 80% trash, it had good ideas and moments ^^*

Chiro Magi Baby was a good villain _concept._ It's a shame he regressed to the bog standard "lemme rule everything 'cause can" once he got any sort of relevant power. Because I guess a villain going off of a believable motive was just too ambitious in the 90s. His name is also a bit unfortunate for the western audience.

I like Selypa (Fasha in U.S/German) there is a great fanfiction about her: What if scenario: If she survived the explosion of Planet Vegeta and got to earth and be there, Gokus "second" Mommy. I like her. Im a raging Dy*e too. But i don't hate man. They are so funny. 😁 Bardock and his wife, Gine, had a relatively rare relationship with one another. Because the Saiyans only have a wife to produce offspring, they have nothing to do with romance. But Gine was super kind and sweet and just the right counterpart for Bardock. Goku has inherited her good nature. (Which becomes dangerous later... )
A pretty good example why premonition can be kinda useless without proper context to what you're seeing. :D Unfortunate for the series, but we never get to see the big Kirby in the Abridged series. He belongs to the story arc just after the giant green bug guy, otherwise known as the android story arc. Big Kirby's actual name is Majin Buu who is essentially an incredibly strong petulent child. He can turn anything into candy in order to eat them, which does happen to both Goku and Vegeta, but as it turns out, you retain your strength and consciousness even as a candy. A little strange, but then the world of Dragonball is a little strange, so... neither here, nor there. It turns out however that Buu isn't just 1 being. He's actually a pretty nice and a kind child, but he was combined with Evil Buu who makes Majin Buu into an angry and an irritable child. Once split from his evil personality, he's just a docile, kind hearted child, a terrifyingly strong one and a natural martial artist. Fortunately he's adopted by Mr. Satan (Yes, that is his real name) and lives a happy and a wealthy life, doubling as Mr. Satan's bodyguard. Not gonna go further into Mr. Satan as we will meet him later into the Abridged series, but no, he's not the Satan, at all.
Frieza destroyed the sayains because there were getting stronger and stronger at an alarming rate and he was worried that one day they could be a powerful threat so he decided to kill them off before they did
I think what makes the Original Bardock special so tragic is that Bardock never had any chance of winning, notice how one attack from Dodoria who is Frieza's weakest elite almost killed him while at this point Bardock is probably the strongest or second strongest saiyan alive, even if Bardock had convinced the other saiyans to rebel they never could have beaten Frieza
Absolutely unecessary and stupid. Z Bardock was a badass and didn't give a shit about nobody. The only thing he cared about was facing a tough challenge and his pride as a warrior y'know like how a REAL Saiyan would be. Super said "To hell with all of that" and decided to be unoriginal by making him Jor-El 2.0 instead of his own unique character. Screw that noise, it's garbage and ain't canon to me. The only thing I'd accept from that is Gine but other than that, nothing else.
@@anthonydeadman I actually thought the OG Bardock was kinda boring. The stuff with him seeing the future is very conveniently used and his personality is still generic. He is a stereotypical gruff cool guy. While the Super version also makes him generic it's still more solid in terms of writing. The final scene where he stands off against Freeza is the only part I wasnt bored watching, and super kept that. This is all just my view on it though.

To clear up what can be a bit of confusion: King Vegeta, his son Vegeta, and the planet Vegeta that is the home planet of the saiyans, all share the same name. This won't come up much, but... When it does, you are now as prepared as the rest of us. As for Frieza clearing his throat, the voice he uses initially is basically the voice Frieza has in the original run of the canon series. Pretty obvious right away that recreating a voice like that would shred the vocal chords of the average voice actor. LittleKuriboh could *probably* pull it off, the guy is great, but using his typical villain voice instead works better in the long run. Considering how much screen time Frieza will be getting in the upcoming episodes, they made the right call. What's weird is between his voice and appearance, there was actually a portion of the fanbase that thought Frieza was female at first. I recall being one of the kids who was confused by the voice and look (trust me, it'll make more sense later) and needed to hear male pronouns for a while before it clicked. I was so relieved years later when I found out I wasn't the only one who made that mistake. Bardock in the Abridged version is not far off from how he is in canon. The idea was more or less to show what Goku might've become had he not struck his head as a child. Bardock is a badass, but he's also kind of an ass in general, as is the nature of his race. Though later appearances of Bardock in video games and whatnot tend to focus on just his noble badass personality, as the fanbase adored that part about him. See, there are a few traits to keep in mind with saiyans. They love fighting, they tend to be brutish or rough around the edges, they love flaunting their strength, they typically aren't very book smart, and they can adapt to just about any difficult circumstance in record time to become stronger. In any other story, they'd be the villains. Frieza realized their potential to grow, and the idea of them becoming strong enough to actually rebel against his rule caused him to take the initiative and wipe them out. Frieza conquers planets and destroys planets every other week, really. Lastly for marketing purposes, over in the west Bardock's story was tweaked and he was called a "brilliant saiyan scientist" to try to make Goku's origins even more in line with Superman's. Yeah they changed none of the footage, so... Yeah. Let's all just nod our heads to the translation team as they try to convince us that Bardock is a man of scientific intellect. To summarize, if Bardock rubbed you the wrong way at first, that was kind of the point. In the Abridged version at least, Bardock is a more violent and rude "what if" portrayal of Goku. We can root for him against Frieza, but a main protagonist he most certainly is not. It doesn't help that a certain "raging" opening line of his in this episode aged like milk. Late 2000's humor, it certainly has some peaks and valleys. At the end of this spiel is Bardock's final vision. In the canon, he witnesses Goku facing down Frieza, and entrusts the future to his son. But in the Abridged version he sees other final villains, and then that... Dance scene. That was from Dragon Ball GT. The less said about GT the better. Glad you guys had fun, so psyched for Episode 13!
Just advising this: Almost everything here its not-canon but at the same time it is. Akira did not have a backstory planned and then TOEI made this film. So in 2018 Akira made this canon with a lot of changes: Bardock doesn't see the future, he was suspicius of why would Freezer want every Saiyan back on the planet and discovered is evil intentions, then he goes back home and talks to Gine (Goku's mom) about how he thinks Freezer will exterminate them and decides to send Goku to Earth. Then we don't know if he advertises the other Saiyans about it but he ends up facing Freezer and dying just like here. And Goku intead of arriving when he was a baby, he arrives at 4 years old or so and with his Saiyan armor and he acts "evil" (as his Grandpa described) because he wants to get back to his family but hits his head and forgets about them.
Alright, now you see what our heros will be up against this season, a Galactic Tyrant who can casually destroy a planet as well as commit genocide with a Finger and an army at his disposal Also Vegeta survived the destruction of his race because he was at DAIRY QUEEN
the movie is actually really tragic, the real story is thatThe kamino guys who strike Bardock is an oracle like Cassandra (grec mythos) he could see the future but couldn't prevent it. As a vengeance he gave his abilitys to Bardocks and died living him a last prediction: his world is doom and he won't be able to change it. He will be haunted by those visions until the end of his life. And that's exactly what happenned. Now as a sayan warrior, Bardock is actually a low class. (for a low class he is pretty strong, but Nappa is stronger for example) He was absolutly outclassed by Dodoria (the pink fat guy) and the abriged didn't show how badly he got hurt. The movie point that he is bleeding out. He kept seing vision of all his son's future from his childhood to his fight with vegeta, watching him growing culminating in his last vision of him facing Freeza. It's more emotionnal and slow until he said to himself "I'll change the future" and try his heroic last stand. Making that funny? pretty hard. I don't think they nailed everything, especially cause the movie is actually pretty good with no real plotholes. So you could only make Bardock a bad guy with no respect for everyone, and completly change the Kamino people (the psychics).

Yep! From what Tantalus010 said, he lost his Saiyan planet conquering instincts when he hit his head as a child! Not sure the whole 'he's a Saiyan' deal was shown in Dragon Ball as he was just a character that was supposed to represent the Mystical Monkey King, Son Goku at the time.
Goku’s original mission was to kill all life on earth but he hit his head and forgot it. The saiyans would wipe out a planets inhabitants and then Frieza would essentially sell the now vacant planet.
Just for reference the final reference of the "Bon Para-Para" 16:20 - is a reference to Dragon Ball GT's first season. ------ Dragon Ball GT is the anime sequal to Dragon Ball Z and it has a notoriously bad beginning and those are one of the villains from the Start of that series. The series does get better as it goes on but in my opinion (As well as others) while the later arcs are better GT never really measured up to DBZ but it did have several moments that are worth watching.

You HAVE to react a short film called Legend- a Dragon Ball Tale Its a fan-fic that you would get a kick out of I am sure. He isn't a good guy, and does not need to be. He is just the right guy to convey the narrative. Lately Dragon Ball changed that and it really feels like a slap in the face to the story and character dynamics, removing tons of narrative weight from Goku being good, and what Bardock (and a few other characters that I won't spoil the story about) represent. But I digress. As for Goku's head injury, it didn't remove his saiyan instincts, but did remove his aggression at that time. Whether that is due to the injury itself or simply Gohan nurturing him back to health and saving him is ultimately conjecture. If you want a good feel of the OG dragon ball, the 4th Dragon Ball movie (not Z) "The Path to Power" goes through the first few arcs of the original show at a faster pace and only changes a few details. Great if you want a bit of background on Kid Goku and his relationship with Bulma, Oolong, Yamcha, and Master Roshi. Plus it uses the GT Goku outfit which is super clean. Highly recommend. Bardock's final vision was of Dragon Ball GT, the series that followed DBZ, but has since been basically ruled non-canonical and a lot of fans were, well, not fans of it. lol
Btw Bardocks Power level was around 8,000 (in Human form) the monkey form is a 10x's boost Freeza at this point his power level was around 250,000 (and thats not even his max) Bardock didnt stand a chance....

Never seen any abridge show before. So I've been going through this journey for the first time with you guys. Despite all the similarities, Abridge is so different from the anime, that I'm treating it as its own self-contained story. I recently watched the Hellsing abridge one, and just in case you get a lot of people recommending it, the language in that one is very strong. The first two episodes are the toughest to get through, but it's still a lot of laughs in between the uncomfortable excessive bits. However, Hellsing abridged is almost as long as the actual anime, so I would just watch the anime instead.
Should point out that TFS were leaning into the fact that Bardock is not a good guy. He's just the protagonist. He's not necessarily meant to be particularly likable, the vast majority of Saiyans were violent and destructive arseholes. They send their children to planets to eventually get in view of its moon to grow into their great ape forms and violently destroy the planet, letting them grow up with a very violent and destructive mindset. Goku was lucky because he not only hit his head as a child to give him a different upbringing, but had his tail removed early on (after his own transformation caused some damage). So Goku is the exception Saiyan because of certain 'lucky' circumstances. But yeah, not liking Bardock? Completely justified, that's partly the point. Comedic element of this version of the series aside, Bardock is far from a 'good guy'.
In all fairness, the Saiyans were a mercenary race who were paid to go to planets and essentially glass them (mostly eliminate the races on those planets) for a living. So they're showing how much the Saiyans weren't exactly nice. Also, yeah. Things were pretty cringe in terms of jokes during this time considering how society was. They get better about it in the future, and even they know it was cringe. The old man in those future images for Bardock was actually named Grandpa Gohan, the man who found and raised Goku until Goku inadvertantly killed him when he was a child because he changed and crushed him as a Great Ape. Also, a little fun fact about this: During the part where they sent Kakarot/Goku to Earth, that's actually Chris Sabat voicing one of the scientists. He's the current VA for characters like Vegeta, Piccolo and Yamcha most notably.

There's a recent DBZ movie that came out that actually canonized Goku's origin story, along with another important character called Broly. Although the events are more or less the same, Goku's mother was also featured, and she and Bardock intentionally blasted Goku away from the planet because they suspected that Frieza was going to destroy it. Bardock shows considerably more concern for his son than this incarnation of him, although he's still much the same hardy, tough warrior. The relationship between the Saiyans and Frieza's empire is also explored in a bit more depth. The dancing monkey things were from Dragon Ball GT. The first sequel series they made which pretty much everyone agrees is pretty awful for the first season. It's now been totally overwritten by Dragon Ball Super.
I'm going to play devil's advocate for a minute. DB GT has been rendered non-canon, yes, but it hasn't been overwritten by DBS because DBS takes place years before the events of GT, and so far, I can only think of one English line in GT that actually contradicts anything in DBS - pretty small potatoes considering how many things in the DB universe have been retconned. In other words, what I'm saying is that while yes, it's extremely unlikely, Toei could just reverse course and decide to make GT canon. It still fits pretty well even after DBS. Yes, it would mean SSJ4 is stronger than anything in DBS, but so what? Power levels are bullshit anyway - plus, SSG and SSB are just basically just half-assed recolors. SSJ4 was at least creative.
It's definitely a copyright thing. Bardock Special uses a bunch of copyrighted music, way more than the average DBZA episode. Muddying the volume across the whole video wasn't necessary, but the algorithm is a fickle mistress and it'd probably be for the best not to poke that bear.

Goku being dropped on his head is canon. He was rather aggressive when Gohan (the old man) found him and Goku ran but fell in a ravine. After being nursed back it seemed that Goku's natural saiyajin bloodlust and aggression had been subdued and all his memories of being a sayan were forgotten. He never knew of his saiyan origin until DBZ and recently in the DB Super manga he's just learned about his father.

Not anymore, it was back in Anime, but Its not really canon anymore cause Toriyama revealed the Grandpa Gohan droping Goku, Goku being a BABY when going to earth, and this entire OVA/Special Episode, is something that TOEI forced him to do back in the day, and today he already revealed his own personal version of this story. Which is now the canon version, and the one he did it because he wanted to do it.
he completely forgot his "brainwashing" basically and became a normal child. he basically became mentally a human.
Cloister Grandpa Gohan dropping Goku(or at least Goku somehow hitting his head) was a thing mentioned in the manga far before this special came out.
Though the other two things you mentioned... yeah, non-canon.

The frieza coughing joke at the start was because the voice actor who played him in the original chose a very strange voice.
The voice actress didn’t choose a strange voice, the voice actress was just sorta old and smoked a lot.

And now you've met DB's arguably most infamous villain, Freeza. He's deeply rooted into both Goku and Vegeta's storylines. He's also the first of what I've heard them called as "The Big Three" of DBZ's antagonists. Vegeta was technically the first main major antagonist, but The Saiyan arc is significantly shorter than the sequential ones.
"Doesn't afraid of anything" is an old meme from like 2006-2007. Not sure on its origins, but a lot of my online friends at that time said it a lot. It's a largely dead phrase though.
Goku was originally sent to Earth to destroy it. He was a low-level warrior and Earth had no significant threats so Goku was a logical choice. He ended up falling out of his adoptive father's backpack thing and hit his head(this was mentioned in episode 1 with Raditz). His head trauma altered his personality from a potentially violent killer to a kind hearted boy who just likes fighting people who are strong.
The abridged series doesn't really touch on this, but Freeza was becoming paranoid over the Saiyans as each generation was producing stronger and stronger babies and they were capable warriors as we saw with Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, and Goku, as well as Gohan(who is half-saiyan). Freeza wanted to snuff them out before they potentially became a problem. Freeza acted on fear, but he's nothing to sneeze at. He's a legit merciless monster.
Edit: 16:10 is from Dragon Ball GT, easily the most hated medium of Dragon Ball aside from the live action movie Evolution. GT at least has some good moments here and there and it's nowhere near as bad as Evolution, but it's cringeworthy garbage overall.

Dodoria was kind if a beast back then and even for a low-class warrior Bardock got pretty strong after his healing in this. With a Powerlevel of 10.000 he was a big number around the other Saiyajins. But unfortunatly.. Dodorias Level was 22.000.
And you will like Freeza. He is kind of the Thanos of the Dragonball Universe, but more likeable. Because he is funny. And british thanks to the legendary "Little Kuriboh" + "Lanipator" voiceactor.

When I was a kid and my uncle showed me this movie I instantly liked him more then Goku or Vegeta. Even though he's just goku with a different voice(like Turles-Gokus brother) he is what Goku would have been if he stayed on planet vegeta and fought Frieza to the death.
Actually Turles isn't Goku's brother, he's just a Saiyan who curiously looks a lot like Goku.

Chiro Magi Baby was a good villain _concept._ It's a shame he regressed to the bog standard "lemme rule everything 'cause can" once he got any sort of relevant power. Because I guess a villain going off of a believable motive was just too ambitious in the 90s. His name is also a bit unfortunate for the western audience.
GT also has some creepy scenes with Pan that make it agonizing to watch sometimes.

Bardock and his wife, Gine, had a relatively rare relationship with one another. Because the Saiyans only have a wife to produce offspring, they have nothing to do with romance.
But Gine was super kind and sweet and just the right counterpart for Bardock. Goku has inherited her good nature. (Which becomes dangerous later... )

Unfortunate for the series, but we never get to see the big Kirby in the Abridged series. He belongs to the story arc just after the giant green bug guy, otherwise known as the android story arc.
Big Kirby's actual name is Majin Buu who is essentially an incredibly strong petulent child. He can turn anything into candy in order to eat them, which does happen to both Goku and Vegeta, but as it turns out, you retain your strength and consciousness even as a candy. A little strange, but then the world of Dragonball is a little strange, so... neither here, nor there.
It turns out however that Buu isn't just 1 being. He's actually a pretty nice and a kind child, but he was combined with Evil Buu who makes Majin Buu into an angry and an irritable child. Once split from his evil personality, he's just a docile, kind hearted child, a terrifyingly strong one and a natural martial artist.
Fortunately he's adopted by Mr. Satan (Yes, that is his real name) and lives a happy and a wealthy life, doubling as Mr. Satan's bodyguard.
Not gonna go further into Mr. Satan as we will meet him later into the Abridged series, but no, he's not the Satan, at all.
He was really dropped on his head 🤣
There's another abridged version of this movie, where the main protagonist, travels through time.
Frieza destroyed the sayains because there were getting stronger and stronger at an alarming rate and he was worried that one day they could be a powerful threat so he decided to kill them off before they did
I think what makes the Original Bardock special so tragic is that Bardock never had any chance of winning, notice how one attack from Dodoria who is Frieza's weakest elite almost killed him while at this point Bardock is probably the strongest or second strongest saiyan alive, even if Bardock had convinced the other saiyans to rebel they never could have beaten Frieza

In the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie they scrapped Bardock Special episode into a more caring person that loves his wife and kids in the movie.

Z Bardock was a badass and didn't give a shit about nobody. The only thing he cared about was facing a tough challenge and his pride as a warrior y'know like how a REAL Saiyan would be.
Super said "To hell with all of that" and decided to be unoriginal by making him Jor-El 2.0 instead of his own unique character.
Screw that noise, it's garbage and ain't canon to me. The only thing I'd accept from that is Gine but other than that, nothing else.

The final scene where he stands off against Freeza is the only part I wasnt bored watching, and super kept that.

Saiyan's were never meant to be considered good people originally and Bardock in the original special stayed true to that period.
To clear up what can be a bit of confusion: King Vegeta, his son Vegeta, and the planet Vegeta that is the home planet of the saiyans, all share the same name. This won't come up much, but... When it does, you are now as prepared as the rest of us. As for Frieza clearing his throat, the voice he uses initially is basically the voice Frieza has in the original run of the canon series. Pretty obvious right away that recreating a voice like that would shred the vocal chords of the average voice actor. LittleKuriboh could *probably* pull it off, the guy is great, but using his typical villain voice instead works better in the long run. Considering how much screen time Frieza will be getting in the upcoming episodes, they made the right call. What's weird is between his voice and appearance, there was actually a portion of the fanbase that thought Frieza was female at first. I recall being one of the kids who was confused by the voice and look (trust me, it'll make more sense later) and needed to hear male pronouns for a while before it clicked. I was so relieved years later when I found out I wasn't the only one who made that mistake.
Bardock in the Abridged version is not far off from how he is in canon. The idea was more or less to show what Goku might've become had he not struck his head as a child. Bardock is a badass, but he's also kind of an ass in general, as is the nature of his race. Though later appearances of Bardock in video games and whatnot tend to focus on just his noble badass personality, as the fanbase adored that part about him. See, there are a few traits to keep in mind with saiyans. They love fighting, they tend to be brutish or rough around the edges, they love flaunting their strength, they typically aren't very book smart, and they can adapt to just about any difficult circumstance in record time to become stronger. In any other story, they'd be the villains. Frieza realized their potential to grow, and the idea of them becoming strong enough to actually rebel against his rule caused him to take the initiative and wipe them out.
Frieza conquers planets and destroys planets every other week, really.
Lastly for marketing purposes, over in the west Bardock's story was tweaked and he was called a "brilliant saiyan scientist" to try to make Goku's origins even more in line with Superman's. Yeah they changed none of the footage, so... Yeah. Let's all just nod our heads to the translation team as they try to convince us that Bardock is a man of scientific intellect.
To summarize, if Bardock rubbed you the wrong way at first, that was kind of the point. In the Abridged version at least, Bardock is a more violent and rude "what if" portrayal of Goku. We can root for him against Frieza, but a main protagonist he most certainly is not. It doesn't help that a certain "raging" opening line of his in this episode aged like milk. Late 2000's humor, it certainly has some peaks and valleys.
At the end of this spiel is Bardock's final vision. In the canon, he witnesses Goku facing down Frieza, and entrusts the future to his son. But in the Abridged version he sees other final villains, and then that... Dance scene. That was from Dragon Ball GT. The less said about GT the better.

Just advising this: Almost everything here its not-canon but at the same time it is.
Akira did not have a backstory planned and then TOEI made this film. So in 2018 Akira made this canon with a lot of changes: Bardock doesn't see the future, he was suspicius of why would Freezer want every Saiyan back on the planet and discovered is evil intentions, then he goes back home and talks to Gine (Goku's mom) about how he thinks Freezer will exterminate them and decides to send Goku to Earth. Then we don't know if he advertises the other Saiyans about it but he ends up facing Freezer and dying just like here.
And Goku intead of arriving when he was a baby, he arrives at 4 years old or so and with his Saiyan armor and he acts "evil" (as his Grandpa described) because he wants to get back to his family but hits his head and forgets about them.
Alright, now you see what our heros will be up against this season, a Galactic Tyrant who can casually destroy a planet as well as commit genocide with a Finger and an army at his disposal
Also Vegeta survived the destruction of his race because he was at DAIRY QUEEN
To be fair, Goku annihilated an army when he was a kid, so Frieza's army is mostly irrelevant (aside from the few actual fighters in it).

the movie is actually really tragic, the real story is thatThe kamino guys who strike Bardock is an oracle like Cassandra (grec mythos) he could see the future but couldn't prevent it. As a vengeance he gave his abilitys to Bardocks and died living him a last prediction: his world is doom and he won't be able to change it. He will be haunted by those visions until the end of his life.
And that's exactly what happenned.
Now as a sayan warrior, Bardock is actually a low class. (for a low class he is pretty strong, but Nappa is stronger for example)
He was absolutly outclassed by Dodoria (the pink fat guy) and the abriged didn't show how badly he got hurt. The movie point that he is bleeding out.
He kept seing vision of all his son's future from his childhood to his fight with vegeta, watching him growing culminating in his last vision of him facing Freeza.
It's more emotionnal and slow until he said to himself "I'll change the future" and try his heroic last stand.
Making that funny? pretty hard.
I don't think they nailed everything, especially cause the movie is actually pretty good with no real plotholes. So you could only make Bardock a bad guy with no respect for everyone, and completly change the Kamino people (the psychics).
Not really much I can tell you here that wasn't already explained or that you didn't see in the series so far.

Yep! From what Tantalus010 said, he lost his Saiyan planet conquering instincts when he hit his head as a child! Not sure the whole 'he's a Saiyan' deal was shown in Dragon Ball as he was just a character that was supposed to represent the Mystical Monkey King, Son Goku at the time.
Goku’s original mission was to kill all life on earth but he hit his head and forgot it. The saiyans would wipe out a planets inhabitants and then Frieza would essentially sell the now vacant planet.
Just to let you know the original movie wasn’t actually canon. The new broly movie is the real origin
Just for reference the final reference of the "Bon Para-Para" 16:20 - is a reference to Dragon Ball GT's first season. ------ Dragon Ball GT is the anime sequal to Dragon Ball Z and it has a notoriously bad beginning and those are one of the villains from the Start of that series.
The series does get better as it goes on but in my opinion (As well as others) while the later arcs are better GT never really measured up to DBZ but it did have several moments that are worth watching.

As for Bardock, he is many people's favorite character. He isn't a good guy, and does not need to be. He is just the right guy to convey the narrative. Lately Dragon Ball changed that and it really feels like a slap in the face to the story and character dynamics, removing tons of narrative weight from Goku being good, and what Bardock (and a few other characters that I won't spoil the story about) represent. But I digress.
As for Goku's head injury, it didn't remove his saiyan instincts, but did remove his aggression at that time. Whether that is due to the injury itself or simply Gohan nurturing him back to health and saving him is ultimately conjecture.
If you want a good feel of the OG dragon ball, the 4th Dragon Ball movie (not Z) "The Path to Power" goes through the first few arcs of the original show at a faster pace and only changes a few details. Great if you want a bit of background on Kid Goku and his relationship with Bulma, Oolong, Yamcha, and Master Roshi. Plus it uses the GT Goku outfit which is super clean. Highly recommend.

Never seen any abridge show before. So I've been going through this journey for the first time with you guys. Despite all the similarities, Abridge is so different from the anime, that I'm treating it as its own self-contained story.
I recently watched the Hellsing abridge one, and just in case you get a lot of people recommending it, the language in that one is very strong. The first two episodes are the toughest to get through, but it's still a lot of laughs in between the uncomfortable excessive bits. However, Hellsing abridged is almost as long as the actual anime, so I would just watch the anime instead.
If you want that much of a fan of Bardock father of Goku, then you might get interested on the other movie Episode of Bardock

Should point out that TFS were leaning into the fact that Bardock is not a good guy. He's just the protagonist.
He's not necessarily meant to be particularly likable, the vast majority of Saiyans were violent and destructive arseholes. They send their children to planets to eventually get in view of its moon to grow into their great ape forms and violently destroy the planet, letting them grow up with a very violent and destructive mindset.
Goku was lucky because he not only hit his head as a child to give him a different upbringing, but had his tail removed early on (after his own transformation caused some damage). So Goku is the exception Saiyan because of certain 'lucky' circumstances.
But yeah, not liking Bardock? Completely justified, that's partly the point. Comedic element of this version of the series aside, Bardock is far from a 'good guy'.

In all fairness, the Saiyans were a mercenary race who were paid to go to planets and essentially glass them (mostly eliminate the races on those planets) for a living. They get better about it in the future, and even they know it was cringe. The old man in those future images for Bardock was actually named Grandpa Gohan, the man who found and raised Goku until Goku inadvertantly killed him when he was a child because he changed and crushed him as a Great Ape.
Also, a little fun fact about this: During the part where they sent Kakarot/Goku to Earth, that's actually Chris Sabat voicing one of the scientists. He's the current VA for characters like Vegeta, Piccolo and Yamcha most notably.

There's a recent DBZ movie that came out that actually canonized Goku's origin story, along with another important character called Broly. Although the events are more or less the same, Goku's mother was also featured, and she and Bardock intentionally blasted Goku away from the planet because they suspected that Frieza was going to destroy it. Bardock shows considerably more concern for his son than this incarnation of him, although he's still much the same hardy, tough warrior. The relationship between the Saiyans and Frieza's empire is also explored in a bit more depth.
The dancing monkey things were from Dragon Ball GT. The first sequel series they made which pretty much everyone agrees is pretty awful for the first season. It's now been totally overwritten by Dragon Ball Super.
I'm going to play devil's advocate for a minute. DB GT has been rendered non-canon, yes, but it hasn't been overwritten by DBS because DBS takes place years before the events of GT, and so far, I can only think of one English line in GT that actually contradicts anything in DBS - pretty small potatoes considering how many things in the DB universe have been retconned.
In other words, what I'm saying is that while yes, it's extremely unlikely, Toei could just reverse course and decide to make GT canon. It still fits pretty well even after DBS. Yes, it would mean SSJ4 is stronger than anything in DBS, but so what? Power levels are bullshit anyway - plus, SSG and SSB are just basically just half-assed recolors. SSJ4 was at least creative.

Copyright strike avoidance, maybe? Toei has always been unreasonably aggressive about DBZ stuff.
It's definitely a copyright thing. Bardock Special uses a bunch of copyrighted music, way more than the average DBZA episode. Muddying the volume across the whole video wasn't necessary, but the algorithm is a fickle mistress and it'd probably be for the best not to poke that bear.
