    Bo isn't gay. He's just always been scrawny, self conscious, and wasn't particularly masculine. I'm a year or two older than him and when I was in school, gay jokes were commonly used to make fun of any kid who was nerdy or didn't get chick's.

    i get teary-eyed whenever i hear this song. it just feels very raw, and you believe him when he say he's got their backs.

    Also as a queer person, I love that bo uses the f slur and reclaimed something that was used against him. He never uses it as an insult/to put others down so Im baffled why it triggers people. He uses the slurs and insults in the song to reclaim them and prove his point.

      In my experience, I haven't heard anybody actually have a problem with Bo's use of the word. It's just been people going "oh man if he released this today he'd be canceled, amirite?"

      A lot of people just hear the word and don't react to the context because the context that they know it from in their own life is too huge in their minds for other things to be there

      I feel the same, I also dealt with M.E and fibromyalgia and using the world cripple as a joking way really makes levity of the situation. Just makes you feel better when you can joke about these things

    He is cool kid now, but it's great that he never forgot he was nerd weird kid back then. So many celebrities act like they were cool all the time. So it's super important for me that he acknowledge he was weird kid back at school, but actually he was really cool deep inside and got where he is now because of it. So maybe I was actually cool too even if I was weird kid. And maybe it will get me somewhere one day too. Everything is temporary. It's bad now, but he knows how it feels and know it will get better. He got ours back.

    i was friends with a band kid who didn't have many friends, but he was actually funny in my humor way, and pretty quick (my brother was the same way. we'd be talking and then i'd say the joke first and they'd say "i was just about to say that!")
    he was a year under my main circle, but taller than almost all of us. my best friend at the time loved him, and i still see them replying to each other on facebook posts. the funniest guy i ever knew ignored schoolwork to draw, and he messages me out of the blue after 6+ years. he's now programming games for indie developers and thanked me for being willing to say the joke he wouldn't. it meant a lot, because i always looked up to him, but it turns out it was mutual. he has since gotten that band kid a job doing music on these projects.
    my point is: IF YOU'RE IN HIGH SCHOOL, BE NICE, YOU DON'T KNOW WHO WILL BE A CONNECTION IN THE FUTURE

    I've never been the most confident person ever. Especially in high school. Though i was starting centre on the basketball team, and also starting middle on the volleyball team, played in the Canadian National league. I hung out with the teams, but also I hung out with the chess club, because i love chess, and the film group, i took media production, and law, poli sci. I was all over the place. There wasn't "one group" that i ever felt 100% comfortable with. Not even my friends from elementary school because I took the french immersion route, they all took the english only courses. They're still friends of mine. However more distant now than i would prefer.

    I completely agree with the twitter people and keyboard warriors. I always thought it was empowering for him to use that f word, as he does in many bits towards himself Bc it’s like him taking back the word that people tried to hurt him with and he just laughs at it ya know?

    • @Y13-t2b
      @Y13-t2b 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Everyone entitled to their opinion. But he doesn’t use the slurs to harm people so I find it weird that people are trying to cancel him. Not surprising tho, people are getting more and more offended nowadays by things that aren’t even offensive. I was bullied and called a fag and a dyke and emo in high school. Does that make emo a slur now just because it was used to upset me back then?

    • @DaNieLLe33993
      @DaNieLLe33993 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Y13-t2b oh I agree, sorry if that read wrong. I meant I agree that he’d be attacked by twitter people and keyboard warriors. Yeah everyone is entitled to their opinions but also yeah, people need to chill a bit when it comes to what offends and doesn’t offend others and if you are offended…just don’t watch…?

      Me too dude. Basically everyone knew me. I had people who knew my name who's faces I'd never even seen. Thing is I was a fat loser, I just happened to somehow be friends with some of the most popular people in school, a couple linebackers, my buddy I lifted with that was in everything, the head cheerleader and some of her non cheerleader friends. I knew some popular people for being a gaming nerd with zero social skills because I was homeschooled for a while for medical reasons.

Or maybe you just didn't want to get into that verse not sure just wanted to note it. But hey you're on point with the overall message just adding the consequences of the way people act could've added to the picture.

    I can't relate to the things mentioned in the song becuase I was never bullied in school. I consider myself extremely lucky in that regard becuase pretty much every kid from elementary to high school where I grew up almost always looked out for each other. The most of bullying I saw was this one younger girl cutting kids off and being mean in the bus line in the morning. My heart goes out to those less fortunate than I was

    Listening to you, almost reacting to true song like you have to defend yourself, coming from having being both bully and bullied, pretty sure you were also a bully, and like most bullies completely oblivious about the fact they were/are bullies. Since this song doesn’t seem to make you choke up even a little adds to this idea, because it seems you are getting the message, all left brain - but maybe that is all that is left, right?
    Being numb like the girl in the song is also an explanation, if you were actually bullied and lying to yourself and as a side effect to your viewers, Bo got your back.
    There is actually a good book about being the class clown and it is about bullying, not sure if is translated into English do, A Comedian’s Childhood by Gardell, give it a look.

      No he’s straight he just got called words like the ones in this video as an insult. I know me and many other queer people don’t don’t mind this song as it is used supportively rather than maliciously and the parts where he say that is him quoting what the bullies are calling the other kids. For me it’s kinda like when people use it in books, it isn’t nice to hear sometimes but it may be essential to the story and message
