For the guys complaining about the rhythm section you obviously don't understand that it's part of their style. They play jazz with a ROCK AND ROLE sound. This is legendary. And fun! 😦🔥🔥🔥
I'm a Jazz drummer and people here are missing the point that this is just music to make people happy and keep them believing in something. Whether the circular breathing is complex or not ... whether he's making people believe it's impossible to do such thing..., people are enjoying the show. Hey my fellow musician friends, don't forget you're studying/making/playing music, so other people enjoy. If you're doing it for you (selfishness), then LOCK yourself in a room and play all you want.
Louis was the greatest and Trombone Shorty knows that, you can hear it in every note he plays. And this version is a great homage to the master. Louis would be proud of this shit, and TS is KILLING it! The best thing Ive heard in years!
I just love shorty and his whole band. I am 60 years old white mom.they. Are all wonderful talented musicians. Can you please come to Oklahoma and soon. Love the horn and trombone. Never give up. Janice Dobyns
janice, I am 73 and love his music. It is typical of the midsouth blues of NOLA. It certainly keeps folks entertained and going to and from NOLA. Keep it going Shorty and gang. Looking forward to you coming the RDU area.
This is the sound and power I want to hear from jazz trumpet players. Trombone Shorty has the right sound in all registers. With all due respect to Chris Botti, I enjoy this sound more.
Great! His singing sounds alike like Leroy Jones, which is a good thing! I lived in NOLA when he was a young guy and people were talking about him then. I love to hear jazz standards played with a modern twist...so people will not forget them. thanks!
This song is one of the more popular ones that is played in jazz and is I'd guess that most jazz musicians refer to Dizzy Gillespie's version. Of course, my reference for learning this tune is this version, which is a little different than Dizzy's and sometimes causes confusion when playing the melody with other jazz musicians lol This version is SO hip that I'm okay with that
wonderfull trombone shorty i like how you perform playing the trumpet annd sing its a total entertainment excellent more power god bless from miyong the trumpet phillippines
You can learn to circular breathe in 2 hours, but getting that good of a tone on the trumpet and than amount of sustained power is incredible. The need to puff out the cheeks messes up the embrouchure which is why the quality of the tone throughout is so impressive.
Zach Carter Good point. Trombone shorty, however, appeals to the masses rather than jazz enthusiasts. The masses think that circular breathing is more entertaining, so it is more valuable in his case.
Hey, I was there too! That was such a great show. I wasn't at all thinking that he was a gimmicky "entertainer" at any point during the show because it rocked so much. I wonder how many of these people have actually seen him and know what they are talking about.
is it not part of his job to entertain? yeah its gimiccy but it pleased the crowd. and damn look at what he plays before that. Its great. great entertainer. amazing horn player. circular breathing may be a gimic but it is NOT easy in the slightest. and to do if for as long as he did? gotta give the man some respect.
I can also circular breathe, and everyone knows that it isn't a matter of difficulty to learn, but a matter of how smooth you can pull it off in a musical work. What's wrong with show boating? Brass instruments deserve to be showboated in my opinion.
que tal hermano soy ecuatoriano ,.,. quisiera saber o quisiera que nos enseñes cual es tu tecnica o cual es tu habilidad para poder tocar tu trompeta y mientras tu respiras por tu nariz .,., por favor nos puedes decir
A lot of people don't realize that the long note isn't as impressive as it sounds. He is simply using a trick called circular breathing. If you watch his cheeks puff in and out, you can see he's expelling air through the force of his cheeks deflating, and in that time he's taking breath in through his nose, thus being able to hold the note as long as he wants. Don't get me wrong though, it's a very hard technique, and takes years of practise to be able to do what he did with it
I can circular breath, and it took me 8 years to get goo enough at it to where I would feel comfortable do it in front of an audience like that, so it is extremely hard. And I don't think I can even do it for 2 minutes
from? and yeah i guess 30 seconds isnt actually that long now that i think about it, i was just guessing i've never actually timed it but i'm just saying that i don't think it's hard to get at.

Well said.
It's the love. Respect.

I love that I can hear history come out of his horn. Welcome the next generation, well done!
Trombone Shorty is a genius musician. Absolutely incredible talent!
Evertime I hear this version it makes me so happy! It’s just pure joy ☺️

I saw Trombone Shorty do this number in Atlantic City NJ. OUTSTANDING
THAT TUNE MAKES ME FEEL LIKE STRIPPING..
Sends shivers up my spine and a tear with all the passion that goes into each performance
Growing up just outside of Treme brought me here!!! Get it SHORTY!!!!
His eyes are part of the music

Great playing.
I always love 20's & 30's songwriting. Never believed it could be this SEXY tho!
It makes me breathless hearing hold that note so long! WOW
Great! His singing sounds alike like Leroy Jones, which is a good thing! I lived in NOLA when he was a young guy and people were talking about him then. I love to hear jazz standards played with a modern twist...so people will not forget them. thanks!
Yes!! This is the essence of NOLA.
Count me among the ones who believe showmanship is part of the allure. And when you play as well as he does, you're allowed to put on a show.

The Greatest , I love this !!
Wow!! almost 2 and a half minutes of one continuous note. that's impressive. even for circular breathing!
You can learn to circular breathe in 2 hours, but getting that good of a tone on the trumpet and than amount of sustained power is incredible. The need to puff out the cheeks messes up the embrouchure which is why the quality of the tone throughout is so impressive.
2.5 minutes circular breathing, and he didn't blow flat that Top line 'D' even once! Now, that's impressive.
I really enjoy his voice, so much soul, but can someone explain why ‘singer’ isn’t listed under his career too?
Exactly!!
fantastico!!! love Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue!
Came expecting trombone, not gonna lie... still left very pleased!

Louis Armstrong of the 21st century
I can die anytime for music like this....
I agree with the rhythm section not being anything too crazy. But I will admit that the circular breathing amazed me.
Simplesmente o melhor
Who the hell said Trombone Shorty can't freakin play jazz now? SO AWESOME
his tone on trumpet is the closest to Louis Armstrong I've ever heard. If I could play trumpet as well as TROMBONE shorty, I would be a happy man
Check out the other NOLA guy Wynton- he loves Armstrong too!

My friend tried sustaining that note without circular breathing.....R.I.P
The swag on that bari player....
He held the circular breathing for 2 minutes and 28 seconds.
I suspect he managed to breeze thru the nose somehow......
Alex G No shit, Sherlock.
I think I'd rather listen to him improv more than circular breath.
Zach Carter Good point. Trombone shorty, however, appeals to the masses rather than jazz enthusiasts. The masses think that circular breathing is more entertaining, so it is more valuable in his case.

What's wrong with show boating? Brass instruments deserve to be showboated in my opinion.
I thought watching somebody showboating is why you picked a brass instrument in the first place.
It is also hard af tho
@@Fraughtful yea it's not easy to do it that smoothly for that long. why are people complaining and why are people trying to justifyt it? just chill.
que tal hermano soy ecuatoriano ,.,. quisiera saber o quisiera que nos enseñes cual es tu tecnica o cual es tu habilidad para poder tocar tu trompeta y mientras tu respiras por tu nariz .,., por favor nos puedes decir
Song is in the key of Am
Yeah he plays VI min stuff all over it (like 3.37) but the I chord is C maj.
