The irony is that completely divorcing (lol) an element of a joke from the context that makes it funny and just persisting in that one, completely isolated element that is only funny if you know the missing context is EXACTLY the kind of humor that Doug’s chat loves.

@@onlysmiles4949 1000% true. They love gaslighting him into believing that something is or isn't happening and his reactions are hilarious, like how they gaslit him how they love Jake
But the difference is that Doug and chat tend to actually expand on that element of the joke and insert it in new contexts instead of presenting it on its own. It's not just "haha this guy's name is Jake", it's more like "Hello, we're the police, have you seen this man? His name is Jake and he's wanted for commiting quadruple homicide", if that makes any sense.

The irony is that the original jake from state farm was actually just a random dude named jake who worked at state farm they replaced him with an actor to not violate his privacy but also because they wanted to cash in on nastalgia
You do know that the "original Jake" was probably a character actor who does other commercialals or background in film and tv. Not just "a random dude named Jake"

@@Tores444 His name is Jake Stone. He really was a State Farm employee. He appeared in another of their commercials as a cameo but the company didn't want to go forward with him as a full time representative. You can find interviews with him.
@@Tores444 No its not rumored. The story is that they decided to have one of their own employees for a role in a commercial, and Jake just happened to be the one who they chose. He was straight up just one of their people who worked in their call center that they had for this ad.

My favorite thing about Doug is it doesn't matter what he's doing, he can always turn it into genuinely good content with his creative use of editing and his trusty sidekick twitch chat. It's like watching a buddy movie and it works.
Genuinely, Doug is exceptionally good at knowing how to play into the collective hivemind of chat and make it engaging

Even though Chat is less "a person" and more "a cesspool of gibbering, primordial chaos," Chat still ends up playing the role of "the character that opposes Doug" - which is fascinating now that I see it. Thanks for pointing that out!
What I love is that while Doug started ranting about how much he hated Jake, I left for 15 minutes and came back to see Jake plastered all over the screen and Doug yelling about how much he wanted to have intercourse with him
Doug mentioned how stupid it would be if he was to be randomly replaced with just another random dude name Doug.
But I can totally see that being a video in the future.

The concept of a guy named Jake is incredible, the concept of a guy named Doug doesn't hit the same though.
If instead Doug did an entire stream that's just Chair sitting in front of the camera, now THAT would be great. The concept of a Chair (named Chair) is even better than the concept of a guy named Jake
Doug literally wants his channel to just be Parkzer. Like that is his dream, have Parkzer take the channel and be Parkzer.
Now Doug has to one random day randomly hire an actor who starts the stream with "Hi, I'm Doug" and then sits there and does nothing for the whole stream. I'm now expecting it.
Doug should have some sort of Minecraft gizmo pushing the character around slowly, and occasionally a sign will appear saying 'hi I'm a sign, and your watching Doug'
And then he would just suddenly end the stream at like 3:26:17

I commented this before on the VOD but I'll say it again: I will forever laugh at the thought of Doug angrily pacing in his own room seething at the illogical existence of Jake from State Farm.
Idk if anyone else feels like this, but Flo was the superior random person from a insurance company. She has personality, back story, and had a plot
Flo would 'yes and' in the situations she was set up in and they would become funny, but it feels like Jake just tries to dissolve them by just going "I'm just Jake"

I think Jake is supposed to be a blank-template neighbor character so that the audience could find State Farm familiar and approachable.
Unfortunately, that means all creative freedom with the character must exist within his gimmick - his name.
ALSO: because his name is so generic, you have to refer to him as "Jake from State Farm" - which is ludicrously good free promotion.

3) Hes like the guy who leads the State farm advertising and either tries to get people to advertise state farm cause of his celebrity status or is straight up directing an ad

Only Doug could rant for hours and hours about an insurance mascot and somehow get to the point where there is a town crier who runs through to warn you of Jake’s approach. I’m in fucking stitches.
We have a similar kind of overused advert here in the UK. It’s for a comparison site called ‘Go Compare’ and for about 13 years we’ve had to endure an irritating opera singer shouting ‘go compare’. They eventually killed him off but some sick individuals decided they’d bring him back
We had a fun bit over here in the US about a cash advance group, JG Wentworth. They may have been the inspiration for the opera in your annoying adverts.

What a great video. I like the part where Doug from the channel DougDoug showed up and said "Hi, I'm Doug from DougDoug!" before handing the stream over to Jake from State Farm, my favorite insurance mascot.

Half the humor of that commercial was that Jake looked like Just Some Guy, completely average, nothing overly attractive about him, being mistaken for a sex hotline. The humor of it gets completely thrown away once you make Jake conventionally attractive 😔

Having the video end with doug coming to the realization his stream gets more viewers when it's just jake is beautiful.
This is absolutely classic DougDoug content. I couldn't have cared less about the original topic of the video, but after a photoshopped scrolling image and a town criar warning of the coming of Jake, I was absolutely dying with laughter.
I once had an idea for a State Farm commercial that went like this.
Two guys are running from a killer, they get to a locked door and they won’t be able to open it before he gets them, so one of the guys takes a swallow and says “like a good neighbour State Farm is there.” And the state farm guy appears says his stick and the guy just mournfully says “I’m so sorry.” And before the state farm guy can react the killer drags him away and the two guys get away from the killer.
Oh yeah.The State Farm commercials used to have the slogan summon a State Farm Agent to help the 'characters' get out of problems. A few of those commercials were really funny. Nice idea!

There's a State Farm location that has a cardboard cutout of him in the window and it always scares me when I walk by there and spot him in my peripheral.

As someone who put this vod on while I slept and would every once in awhile and half pay attention I am very glad to know that seeing Harold slowly come onto screen and all of that Jake stuff was actually real I didn't remember it happened until the first time I saw the Herald and then in a flash it came back to me. Strangely enough I had no real reaction to it I just sort of saw what was happening and was like yeah it's Doug Doug it was normal

THANK YOU. I thought I was the only person bothered by this. State Farm's current marketing team clearly has no idea what made the original ad funny, and they're saturating the airwaves with this Jake character who is completely nothing on his own, outside the context of the original.
The only upside to the commercials is that I can immediately identify when I'm talking to an American online because they simply cannot resist asking if I'm from State farm.
That or Jake Paul. I'm not sure which is worse.
