    The 8v will always be superior. Far more elegant and better looking

    • @CRD90
      @CRD90  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I definitely agree with the elegeance factor, I find the 8v more business like (not in a negative way) but more in I could see me getting in and out of it in a suit lol.
      Where as the 8Y is more aggressive and maybe that loses the elegance as a result.

    The outside really looks good on the new one one. But I like the inside of the old one much more. Not so many screens, fingerprints and easier handling due to buttons. The old one just has a cleaner look inside in my opinion.

      I agree with your view and hopefully the video helped to get that across. Don't get me wrong I really like the modern aspect but the layout I'm not so sure will be as modern in a few years time.
      I actually think touch screens in a car are a fad and won't last long at all, it's too dangerous to use when driving!

    Great Audi content as usual and some good points on the 2019 interior controls. and gear shift, seems so much. more premium the old version.

    • @CRD90
      @CRD90  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the kind words, I feel it's just the gear surround area that is a bit less premium, the rest is top notch e.g. alcantara, ambient lighting.
      I feel the minor cutbacks were probably to allow for more new technology to be integrated.
      Only if the technology worked without issues :)

    Interesting video and nice to see the physical differences in a side by side fashion. Personally I prefer the old version in every way and am trying desperately to like the new version as a used example can be had now for not much more outlay than the older version. Would have been nice to have a comparison drive of the two and the reasons to buy not very comprehensive. Overall though a very useful review thanks.

    Audi really cut corners with parts of the interior and it really shows with the 8Y 2020. To account for giving the car alcantara interior, we’ll save money on x y and z. I do feel like the 8Y has lost its personality in this aspect and gone in a similar direction to the Golf, great car, just not Audi! Shame. I think the lights are the only real improvement on the 2019 8V. Not only would you be saving money, you’d be getting a better all round driving experience. But each to their own.
    Also I might have a slight bias as I have the 19 plate saloon, honestly can not fault it. I prefer the shape, the feel of the dials, Great, great car

      I have to agree if I owned the 8v then it would be a hard press to upgrade to the 8y. My only worry with using so many gadgets and screens in cars is that they will date very quickly.
      For example the cockpit I sat in on the 19 plate felt lower Res than the 8y. So let's fast forward 5 years I'm sure all of the screens in the 8y will feel older!

    • @adamshin8360
      @adamshin8360 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CRD90 absolutely. I think it’s more that Audi’s natural progression towards an all electric fleet is to implement similar interiors across its range, obviously increasing the quality of spec with its price structure. The main gripe for me was the touch screen, having to take your eyes off the road completely to navigate, like you said in your review.
      Keep up the good work, you’re doing great 👍🏼👏🏼

    The quality of the older model inside was best in class. Nothing could match it. Now a Peugeot 308 is nicer inside. The dash is ugly to look at and doesn’t look that easy to use.

  • @Lotus.F
    @Lotus.F 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    9 times out of 10 new is better than old this time is no different. Again the 2020 touchscreen is definitely better than the 2019 non touchscreen. Using the swivel control doesn't mean you don't need to take your eyes off the road, it would be interesting if you could demonstrate using the swivel control but not looking at the infotainment screen. I agree the swivel control is very useful and Audi should have kept it along with the touchscreen.

      We will be publishing an updated thoughts and owners review on the new shape.
      I think the whole touchscreen thing will fade out in a few years, there's no real advantage.. fingerprints everywhere and dangerous to use.
      Also I feel the more screens they introduce in cars, the quicker they will become dated as resolutions are constantly getting better and better.

  • @iamboumagik
    @iamboumagik ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The previous model is far superior in every way, but this is not the main issue.
    When I bought my A3 in 2020, I had the choice between both models. I choose the 2019 version because the 2020 is simply uglier (looks like a Peugeot) and feels cheap inside. I bought mine 34k€.
    At this era (precovid isa different world), the entry price of A3 Sportback was 26k€.
    Today, the entry price is 33k€ (I always check audi official website for price). That’s almost +25%. That’s just insane considering the fact that the quality is worse then previous version. Also due to semiconductors shortage, some options are simply not available anymore, like CarPlay I believe.
    Now the A1 today has the entry price of A3 asof 2020.
    It would be good if some car ´tubers could cover this topic, it feels like these greedy manufacturers are getting away it (elevated MSRP for electric cars, record profits in last couple years) meanwhile everyone has to sober up due to fuckflation.

    • @CRD90
      @CRD90  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you're onto something there, how do cars that only a few years ago were £50k now cost close to £100k. (M3 for example)
      I can only see finance allowing this to happen as people no longer look at the overall picture and only really care about monthly payments which is letting manufacturers inflate the cars as long as one can still get it at £300-£400 a month they won't really care.

    What about the exposed painted window surrounds on the latest 8Y compared to trimmed surrounds on the 8V?

    • @CRD90
      @CRD90  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, thanks for watching and raising a valid point. Although both have black styling packs, I believe you are right that the 8y window trim is painted gloss black where as the 8v is not.
      Also something I forgot to add in the video, even they both have identical engines the 8v has exposed exhaust tips which are real, the 8y has fake exhausts.

    • @davidperry3531
      @davidperry3531 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CRD90 I think the inside door frames on the 8Y are painted the body colour which could be ok or not. We have a 2014 8V and the interior is a class act and after 6 years still looks like new. The piano black trim on the 8Y will scratch very quickly. Audi are using fake exhausts regularly now on many of their lesser models and I think it is a backward move.

    • @CRD90
      @CRD90  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely man, I'm not a fan of the piano black or the sad excuse for a gear stick!
      The amount of fingerprints that show on the piano black and touchscreen show that no one really thought about it when designing the car. I've literally got a cloth in my glovebox to clean it! LOL

      Yeah they are body colour, which to be honest I didn't spot as a difference on the 8v, but from every car review I've seen on a red or yellow 8y it does look really strange when the camera is filming inside the car. I think I do not notice it as much in mine because of the dark colour

    wow im sorry but I do not like the 8Y, you can call that 'More aggressive' but I wouldn't agree with that at all. The grill looks stretched out, the side vents are too big, the additional lines on the hood just make it look like someone turned of anti-aliasing. Its all preference at the end of the day but I 100% prefer the MMI system, I have that thing memorized, I do not have to take my eyes of the road at all to do anything. Inside is far to angular for my taste. A lot of people will like the 8Y I am sure but it just isn't for me.
