  • Wind noise in videos sounds terrible. Here's how to reduce and remove wind noise in videos!
    --
    The only way to remove it completely is to prevent it in the first place, but that’s another video…
    This video is about REDUCING wind noise in videos you’ve already filmed... To PREVENT wind noise altogether, check out our 5 Tips for Shooting in Windy Conditions: • Prevent Wind Noise in ...

    This story may sound familiar.. On a recent trip to Australia a good friend of mine, Stig Severinsen (www.breatheolo... was on a boat just off the coast filming some new instructional videos. Side note: If you haven’t heard of him, you should definitely check him out - this guy is INSANE! World record freediver, 22 minute breath-holds… just unbelievable - and a great guy to boot. Anyway, the shots were great but when his team got the footage back it was completely riddled with wind noise and he was almost inaudible. They thought it was unusable… Frustrating!
    So, he sent the footage through to see if I could help and we managed to salvage everything using a few quick filters. I pulled together this weeks video while fixing his footage to show you exactly how to do the same - all within your Video Editing software!
    Now, as I mentioned above, the ONLY way to remove wind noise completely and get best results is to prevent it it in the first place. BUT, if it’s already too late - this will help you salvage what you have :)

    Hey Justin! I found it helpful because I didn't know that premiere had a highpass filter plugin on it. Although I think you didn't execute it quite right. You eliminated all the wind, which is great, but you reduced the gain of some frequencies which make part of the human voice range. So in the end you got no wind, but the voice sounds strange, without the mid, mid-high frequencies, like a "telephone effect".
    Personally I would do things differently. I would prefer to embrace the wind noise. I think it's okay to hear it but not too much and you can achieve this equilibrium by readjusting the threshold frequencies of the filters.
    Hug!

    Appreciate the annoyance we experience when we seek out a video to learn something, and they refer you to a number of previous videos. It's just feels exhausting.

    • @PrimalVideo
      @PrimalVideo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Landrew0! Not sure what you're referring to here... If it's this video - it covers exactly the topic in the title, and refers to additional resources on how to prevent the problem in the first place for those interested. I understand you're frustrated (although not completely sure why...) but you should appreciate that it does take time/effort to upload video tutorials and content for you to access freely. On this channel, if we refer to 'other' videos - they're on related topics that may be of interest.
      I'd be interested to hear how you'd solve your frustration? Keeping in mind, it would be completely unfeasible to include EVERYTHING in an ever-growing cumulative video on a specific topic.

    Thanks so much! We have a family vlog based in Samoa and I'm constantly struggling with minimizing wind noise during filming and then have to try to fix it in post. • @KiR_3d
    @KiR_3d ปีที่แล้ว

    I use Fab Filter's Q-3 with dynamic settings on those pesky blow frequencies... It works OK. Of course it's not removing wind blows completely but makes them less nasty. You need to play with frequencies and Bell Q and filter's width (12, 18dB and etc.) settings to get what you need. It depends highly on you mic specs and plus any acoustic environment (like corridors, big pipes - if you're under ground). The last mentioned can add some more frequencies which will be resonated.
    After that I usually put any good compressor (to level up everything to a certain "flatness"). Then I make another Q-3 layer which makes some "bass restore" function. Because the 1st plugin will eat up your bass frequencies as hell. It's nevermind that they're dynamic, you still will get some bass cut. If you need the bass then it needs to be restored.
    There you just pickup the same frequencies +/- some Hz and tune their levels up (not dynamic!).
    Actually the 1st plugin will serve as a dynamic compressor but I've found that it gives great results. Don't forget to click on "Auto" to set up your desired threshold level for triggering the frequency!
    It's really important or your audio will be a complete mess.
    Of course cleaning up these artifacts manually (or maybe by some RX plugins) is better. But here is my receipt!
    Put "Like" on my comment if it's helpful enough, plz

    If you are using an audio track recorded remotely, OR if you separate the audio into a separate audio file, what should you be looking for first? Echo, Reverb mitigation, noise reduction, normalization? compression? For simplicity sake let's use an indoor interview, presentation or lecture as the scenario. Tnx.

      @@PrimalVideo Now that EQ is obsolete, can you update your video to show the best way to work with the recommended FFT EQ? I'm trying to repair/salvage some audio, but working with the latest version- and can't get it quite right.
