Finally Replacing My TT's Valve Cover Gasket | Much Needed Fix

  • Hey everyone,
    Today we are taking some time to fix my leaky valve cover gasket. This has been an issue for quite a while on my TT and I am so glad we finally were able to fix the leak. Along the way we also replace the transmission timing plug and part of the secondary air injection system. This car is driving better than ever and I am getting even more exited to start adding more power mods. It's come pretty far but still has a ways to go.
    I have a mountain of parts, for both projects, that I am stoked to show you all over the course of the next few weeks.
    Thank you for watching!

    I like the use of the table, that's what I do when I'm working on the car. Beats all the bending to pick stuff up.

      The table really does beat putting all the parts out on the floor. The table is in almost as many videos as the cars themselves haha. Thank you so much for the support!

    Another word : This vidéo is an very helpful answer to something I worried about.
    Actualy, I had replaced the cover gasket two years ago. Symptoma was some smoke when starting the car. Staying few minutes and disapearing when the engine was hot. Okay, this was a leak in the back of the cover. Fixed.
    But now I have a oil leak in the right side.
    I suspected a gasket default of the turbo oil return hose to the bottom sump.
    But a mecanic said no, it’s from the cover.
    And since I had not replaced the tensioner gaskets on the right, bingo ! 99% that this is the issue.
    So, just ordered the kit with the special tool, as seen on your video.
    Fortunatly this special tools is easy to find ans cheap.
    So, thanx again ;)

    The music you used when removing the coil packs matched the sound of the pop they make when they come off 🤣

    I like your videos. Doing the seal myself this Xmas. However - use cardboard or other soft underlay when cleaning parts to avoid scratches. Also the rtv is settling fast within minutes, so everything should be mounted and torqued straight after applying. Keep up the good work.

    • @HunterDirection
      @HunterDirection  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great point! Next time I'll use some cardboard as a base. Also the valve cover went on right after the RTV. It was just placed later in the edit for narrative sake. Thank you for the support!

    Just a note on the timing chain tentioner compression tool; is it is easy break it since it's plastic. So don't torque down too fast or too far. I usually press down with my hand on the tensioner as I tighten the tool to avoid this. Otherwise just buy the metal version of this tool. I also suggest adding a little gasket maker on the tight bends or corners where the gasket mates to the cylinder head. That will aid it in sealing properly since they're not flat surfaces.

  • @erichorrobin431
    @erichorrobin431 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's necessary to criss cross the nuts when your putting it back on. Same reason as your timing chain one.

    haha reminds me of when i did my valve cover on my old 225. I did the same upgrade from 034 that you did, i also did the replacement for the PCV under the intake manifold that comes off of the oil filter housing. that one is plastic and brittle as hell, and 034 sells an upgraded metal fitting to go in. The only issue you need to look out for is the vacuum jet suction pump that runs off the bottom of the intake manifold that actually runs up to the brake booster to give you pedal pressure, if you break that, the part number is tough to find and you actually have to get one off a 1.9 TDI car.

    • @HunterDirection
      @HunterDirection  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad im not the only one who went with these upgrades haha. I've got the same under manifold hose to replace when I do the intake manifold gasket. I'll be sure to be careful when it comes to that brittle suction pump. Thank you for the advice and support!

    I’m having my 225 valve cover gasket and cam adjuster solenoid assembly/gaskets being replaced cause of small oil leak at 90k miles they are charging me $3,075 I feel like I’m getting robbed. 1610 for gaskets and solenoid and 1190 for 7 hours labor? Does that sound right to you? I took it to high end Audi aftermarket/oem shop who do a lot of tuning and stuff so they are the best and expensive though. I’m feeling like I need a newer model. My 04 225 is one of the best examples around you will see I’m thinking I could get at least 15-20k for it with a lot of aftermarket but oem look to it all done by high end shops. Me and original owner have over 30k into this car over 20 years

    Hey man love the content. I actually just picked up a 2001 Audi tt mrk1, and I am having some trouble finding a replacement hose for my intake. Do the two I’ve ordered are just to short. Do you know where I can find one that will fit? Or where did you get yours?

    • @HunterDirection
      @HunterDirection  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can send you in the right direction for sure. Just confirming, but by intake hose you are asking about the large hose coming off the MAF/intake connecting down to the turbo? Thanks for the support!
