- We ventured out to the middle of nowhere to ride some old school rides you'll have a hard time finding anywhere else! Meet Arnold's Park in north west Iowa. They opened their doors in 1889 and are home to a variety of smaller carnival style attractions, including 3 roller coasters- the oldest of which dates back to 1930! The attractions feel a bit more rough around the edges than your average roller coaster or flat ride, but that's what gives them personality!

I know it's bad, but the kid dumping out in the baby ferris wheel right after you ripped on it was too perfect.
Is it bad that I couldn’t stop laughing at that kid falling into the micro sized Ferris wheel? 😅
That dude that did the opening announcement has got some talent. Too bad he’s stuck in Iowa…
Was awesome seeing you guys and glad to see you had fun. Come back anytime!
Great to meet you, thank you so much! We had a lot of fun :)
The Arnold's Park coaster has special meaning for me. I used to run the legendary Mountain Flyer at Mountain Park in Holyoke, MA. When the park closed, Arnold's bought that coaster -- everything but the structure (both classic NAD trains, the lift and motor, chain, safety rachets) -- in order to rebuild their coaster. That was in 1988. Sadly, they discarded the NAD trains several years later. But up to that point, their coaster was the last vestige of the one I used to run.
Just Wanted To Let Y’all Know That Your Videos Are Movie Quality. You should legitimately make a Netflix Show which are just all mini docs in the style of This Is How We Roll. Keep It Up!
That’s genius! I totally agree!
100% agree!
🥩🏇
Definetly
I had a unexpectedly fun day here back in 2016. This little park is a true gem.
This looks like a good place to get the classic amusement park feel that's so rare at corporate parks
Oldest Fully steel Roller Coaster is probably "Rodelbaan" at De Waarbeek in Almelo, The Netherlands. A small In-House build coaster , build out of old tram rails in 1930. It's still operating today. There's also Montaña Suiza (Swiss Mountain) at Monte Igueldo in Spain from 1928 but it's supports are made out of concrete (Probably making it the olders Hybrid Coaster in operation).
Love the drone shot over the wild mouse. Yes more please. 👍
Don't worry, there are many more roller coaster drone shots coming in the near future!
I'm genuinely surprised you've never been on an Octopus ride. Those janky old things are a staple of midwestern carnivals and fairs, I love them.
this is not just any old octopus ride!
Octopus flat is one of the best, sad we don't see them much anymore.
always a good day when coaster studios uploads
Agree
so...every day's a good day?
Arnolds park seems just like a fun time
Oh no, you missed the Funhouse Slide! There's a little Arnolds Park Museum in the complex of shops/etc that has a bunch of vintage pinball machines and the slide from their old funhouse. It was a fun little surprise to discover when I visited, and I think it's included with the park wristband.
Those Herschell mice are crazy! They feel and sound like riding in a Walmart shopping cart! I also did the one at Little Amerricka a few weeks before I did this one, and that one is definitely smoother than the one at Arnolds. I don't think you've been to Little Amerricka yet, so you should check that out when you're in Wisconsin again to compare the mice, and don't miss the train when you're there!
I hope they got the Bug House in, too. It's a classic!
When that kid watches this video when he is older he ain't gonna be happy😂
Pooor kid. Fell backwards. Nobody helped him either!
Little dude taking a spill on the micro-ferris-wheel has to be the best comedic timing you have pulled off on this channel.
I rode Legend last summer and with the slight floater in the back row with those Buzz Bar restraints, I was very surprised. It was still pretty smooth last year and for such a small coaster, I did not expect to have as much fun on it as I did. I suppose Legend is one of those coasters that proves less is more sometimes. Classic woodies have that appeal when taken care of which this park has clearly done. That Wild Mouse on the other hand..... Yeah I thought that ride was trying to kill me.
This is amazing. You guys are the best! Keep up the amazing work!
Oh this place looks super charming, I love these kinds of classic style amusement parks, especially when well kept like this. It's like a smaller American equivalent to something like Linnanmaki or Bakken, except the latter have a mix of both old and new rides instead of just the classic. But all of these are great!
Those old-timey flat rides and wild mouses always warm my heart! Love these videos!
I laughed out loud at the poor kid in the baby Ferris wheel 😂 I love this park!! I wonder if I will get to Iowa one day!
I have lived 2 hours from Arnold's Park for the past 8 years and still have not been. I really need to visit there. It's a beautiful summer vacation spot.
nothing quite like those old Eyerly Aircraft Company rides, Im kind of shocked the Spider was the only one there
That old crazy mouse roller coaster😂. I think ours where i grew up was called the big cheese, and it incorporated a “big” drop at or near the beginning but rest was exactly the same as this one. This era of these types of rollercoasters had angle iron tracks instead of tube like the more modern versions. The older version is slowly becoming harder to find throughout the nation. They got rid of our Big Cheese a couple of decades back.
Love seeing a new coaster studios video in my feed
I actually rode the Mad Mouse back in Lubbock when I was a kid, and I sure loved it, and watching that was nostalgic to me and I can confirm it was just as janky back in Lubbock
Joyland is where I started my coaster journey! It was my home park. And yes the ride was terrifying to me as a kid. The euphoria of having survived was always worth it.
@@zachg.5319 agreed
Joyland…really makes you wonder how they’d be doing now if they built the old Greased Lightnin from Astroworld instead of leaving it to rot in storage
Kennywood is my homepark and I always will enjoy Jackrabbit, Racer, and Thunderbolt no matter how old they are
Hello Coaster 365!
I've been coming to this place since I was a kid and it's always fun. The Legend never disappoints. I need to pay closer attention to social media. Would have loved to join/meet you while you were here. Come back for a stay some time. Ride the Queen II, take in the shopping, restaurants, and night life OR, come back the end of January for our Okoboji Winter Games. It's a blast!
These older locally owned parks are always worth exploring. You never know what unique or limited older ride you may find. Thanks for showing this park. By the way one of my first coasters I rode was a Wild Mouse. Like you said it always felt like the car would derail on those tight turns on the top of the ride. I got to ride several of the older style Wild Mouse coasters. It is nice to see a somewhat revival of this type of ride however I don’t car for the spinning style many of the newer models use.
Loved this!
The best wooden coaster ever is at lakeside amusement park in lakeside Colorado! The cyclone one of the world's best original wooden coasters in existence
I just love the doing flatride one of my favs they had one at king’s dominion back in the 80s called the octopus miss it
Rip to that kid
Your video quality is amazing
You did that little kid dirty. 🤣🤣
The kid falling 😂😂😂
Next year, on May 17 I believe, Giant Dipper at SCBB turns 100
W
I was watching this thinking, 'the editing is really fun on this video! It feels fresh, it feels--'
--goat suddenly screams
I was super surprised by the legend because it was much smoother than what I remember when I was younger and the hills seemed perfect with lifting you up in the air.
And yeah the wild mouse is the goofiest roller coaster I've been on
OMg you visited my hometown park!!!! It’s so cool to see people’s reaction to seeing Spirit Lake/Okoboji/Aronalds Park, since it’s such a hole in the wall area. Also fun fact about the lake, it’s only 1 of 3 clear water lakes in the world.
Downey Park has a wooden coaster that's around 100 years old. It was crazy smooth when I rode it around 3 years ago too which was surprising to say the least
8:55 I was chilling holding on tight but my sister was screaming like crazy when my mom stopped the ride it turned out it was a scream of joy by my sister 😂
the kid did not expect to be on video eating it 😂
4:30 i had no buisness laughing so much at this
The absolute LATERALS on mad mouse are insane
The kid falling into the ferris wheel for ants...dead
Hurricane at Fun Spot Atlanta is one of the jankiest coasters that I ever been on.
I am surprised with how much you both love adrenaline that you haven't done a wing walking expirience yet. I'd personally love to see that !
Wild One at Six Flags America is 106 years old.
And has been operating for 104 years.
Originally _Giant Coaster_ at Massachusetts' defunct Paragon Park (1917-1984), it is the oldest surviving rollercoaster in the Six Flags chain.
Wild One also has the same Ship of Theseus situation, where it's not clear how much if any of it is original, but at least it definitely has a 106 year old history even if the physical ride itself may not be quite that old.
Reckless is basically a tiny frisbee
Sarah the scariest coaster is Franken Coaster in Niagra for sure. The jankiest! Only coaster that I have actually held on red knuckled! You all need to Go ride the wild mouse and Swiss Toboggan at Little Aerricka too.
You guys for like April fools should do a really dramatic, documentary like video going to Camden park. 😂
I go to Arnold’s park like 5 times a year it’s so fun
Awesome vlog! The child 😂
4:30 MOOD
Nice editing of the 2 of you on that janktastic coaster
I grew up 15 miles from Arnolds Park. To give you an idea how long this park has been around my grandparents went there in their first date. (I’m 53)
There was the same model of Mad Mouse coaster at White Sean Park near Pittsburgh. Rdse it as a kid. Scary ride and the turns make it feel like the cars will fall off the track.
4:30 Oof.
Genuine terror makes the funniest rollercoaster reactions. Great video, I've never heard of this place. Was the Roll-O plane operational? There are very few of those left.
Yes it is!!!!!
I like to believe that Arnolds Park is the only park with the Rock-O, Roll-O, and Wild Mouse fully operational.
9:34 I think this coaster is made by the same people who made Lil Phantom at Kennywood!
It was! Well, technically Lil Phantom was built by E&F Miller, but this was built by its predecessor, Miller Manufacturing
@@alexlents4689Lil Phantom was built by Molina and Sons, who were former employees of B.A Schiff which made a similar design to this.
@@quix9556 oh, you’re right, for whatever reason I thought op was talking about a different ride. It was built by Molina & Sons
I completely agree i rode the wild mouse at Blackpool pleasure beach that was from the 50s and it feels like the wheels lift from the track at points i was only a kid and it terrified more than any other ride in the park because of all the jank
Just missed u lol. U got me at 10:55
4:29... GOLD😂😂😂
The Mad Mouse sounded like a shopping cart
It looks just like the one that used to be at Lakemont Park in PA.
The Mouse was probably created and is maintained by the local High School metal shop! Very fun!!
Great day
I rode legend a bit ago and it is really underrated
I gotta say though... Thunderhawk at Dorney Park is older, it was originally built in 1924
Though Thunderhawk has been largely modernized ever since Cedar Fair bought the park; now having automatic braking, modern PTC trains, etc... Legend still has it's classic coaster features.
@@BAKU2K2 And I can't fit in the front row, my knees hit the handles
I was at Knott’s yesterday and someone told me Xcelerator will be open on Sunday, have you heard anything? There were quite a few people working on the site and there was a girl gardening. Have you heard anything?
We have not heard anything! Hope this comes true🤞🏼
Ten years from now I could see this place with a wild moose.
That would be awesome, but space is at a premium. Even with the smaller footprint, I'm not sure where they would put it without sacrificing another ride or a parking lot.
@@bubbasan Its a drop in replacement for any wild mouse. Same footprint.
@@davefroman4700 That's a valid point, but for some reason the one at Arnolds Park feels (and looks) smaller than 150 x 80. Alas, I doubt they'd ever do it. I remember my mom talking about the Wild Mouse at the park back in the 60s, and this one, being a classic Wild Mouse, fits the legacy and the vibe for Arnolds Park. Just my take on it.
Taylor going Godard with those Wild Mouse cuts.
6:32 That coaster was made by the same manufacturer that made the first roller coaster I've ever ridden.
Seems like a similar park to Lakeside in Denver, CO. Although in better condition
The mouse started off at Bell's in Tulsa and it was production number 1. It's the prototype.
Have you guys never ridden an octopus, spider, or monster before?? What is this ride?? lol. Seriously??
Also, the lake is Okobojee (sp?), and you missed the museum!!! You guys totally missed out on the fun house slide, the displays, vintage pinball, and more! How did you miss that??
Oh cool they have a lil phantom clone.
Actually Iowa has several beautiful spots...you just have to research a little to find them.
4:30 💀
It’s right by Lake Okoboji
the oldest coaster ive been on is almost 50 yrs old
Losing it over the goat
There is no apostrophe in “Arnolds” Park as stated in the description
No Taylor, that’s lake Okoboji!!
WEST Lake Okoboji to be exact
Was the Rock-O-Plane not running?
Hey! Will you guys be selling a Coastin’ thru Europe Season 2 Poster? Also, you and Sarah always make me laugh and smile every time I watch your guy’s videos! Have an amazing day!
we haven’t decided yet! if the interest is there, possibly!
Soooo Arnold's park or waldameer...They're both next to a lake so choose wisely.
10:16 Uh oh... We will await the revelation of these thinly veiled truths.
By little America did he mean wonderland in Amarillo Texas? Because I remember seeing that ride while I was at the zoo next to it
Little Amerika in Wisconsin!
Wonderland has a wild mouse that's by a different manufacturer. It has some similarities to the one here. The one at Wonderland is about 10 years newer and is still operating there today.
@@CoasterStudios thanks for the clarification
What is that? A ferris wheel for ants?! It has to be... at least three times bigger!
Of course 6:27
Quick question: Can you call a roller coaster nearly 100 years old if it's been rebuild that many times ? You touched on my point before you got on tbf
Well they kind of have to rebuilt it. But it has the same name so technically yes they can
Time for some new sunglasses ?
2:50 Are you sure you're not in Ohio or Idaho?
have you had any luck getting into lakeside yet?
Not yet!
I know what NOT to ride lol wild mouse
Is that Heaven? 😉
As a hispter, I'm almost getting aroused...
yo the kid at 4:30 has me dying HAHAHA
4:32 💀
