CBR500R how to change front brake pads

This is a quick how to video on changing the front brake pads on a 2017 Honda CBR 500R (non-ABS). Pretty easy process. The only tools you need are a 5mm allen wrench and a 12mm socket/socket wrench. It would be good to have a torque wrench to set the proper torque but you can get away without one.

So 30 nm for caliper mounting bolts and 22 nm for brake pad pin (my manual says 16lb for m, 2019 honda cbr500r)

Thanks for the video, very useful. I have a 2015 ABS and the pin bolt isn't machined with the 5mm allen head, so I use a 8mm socket.

@@MJ-so9tc I'm far away from my bike this month so I can't look at it,. However the main thing I learned from replacing the pads is that I probably could have done it without removing the caliper. So try it that way first, then remove the caliper if you have to. Open the master cylinder for pressure relief, and use a C clamp on the caliper to gently squeeze the pistons back, then slide out the old pads and slide in the new ones. If the new pistons won't go in, then you'll have to take the caliper off to squeeze the pistons further back.

I am curious about why the ABS models do not allow the pistons to move. Is it due to the pressure inside the circuit?

Glad it was useful! If you force fluid back up into an ABS unit it can damage it, they aren't designed to allow fluid to flow both directions. I've only seen it actually cause problems once but that was enough for me to not do it again lol.

@@haiderbaturi7445 Oof, that stinks. You can try bleeding the whole system. I'm not sure what the procedure is for that. I don't own any bikes with ABS.

I have the 2019 Model with ABS. What happens, when i Open? Does Blakefluid came out?

Yes fluid will come out as you press the pistons in, so you'll want to connect a hose and collect the fluid in a bottle or some such for disposal.

@@47MasoN47 No.... there will NO Fluid came out...its a Vent to lift out your brakes...

@@egalwer5665 If you open the bleeder valve and fluid doesn't come out, you have a problem... It works the same way on all disk brakes whether bike, car, or whatever.

Probably, I've never worked on a 300 myself but I'm pretty sure they use the same caliper.
