I have to mention that we recorded a 2 hour episode with Mdu, unfortunately we lost a lot of the footage due to some technical errors. This video is made of the parts of the footage I was able to recover. We are planning to re-record with Mdu.
Thank you for this interview, I am doing my third year now in Actuarial Science, and to be honest I am still not confident enough to even claim I am coping in this course, when people ask what I am studying I always lie, ofcoz during first year I used to run my mouth😅, this course has humbled me......
I am very inspired as a grd 11 learner am definitely going to be an Actuary ,I would like him to come to my school at Limpopo I will pray to God for u to come we need u 🙌🙏
Ben you are so humble. Congratulations on your achievements. A great conversation this was, thank you for inviting Mdu. I have recently decided to rewrite my Matric and go back to school. I've always been smart and passed well but unfortunately I lost focus during a crucial time in my life. Time has gone by, I'm now 28 years old and I am tired of praying for luck and chance. I reflected, self-introspected and decided to do right by myself. I am a bit anxious, I'm scared but my will to succeed is even greater. I want to one day be inspiration to anyone who feels their life is over due to making bad decisions. I will definitely give back and inspire others to shake the dust off and rise from the ground. No one is coming to save you. No miracle will fall on your lap either.
Congrats Dr Ben Mahudu. I know of one lecturer, of African descent, who some were reluctant to give her credit just because she had a PhD in Maths Education and was leading one of South Africa's top universities. You've silenced any would be critics. Keep loading the good stuff, very inspiring. I truly enjoy watching your videos
I remember back in grade 8, I wanted to study Actuarial Science when I completed my matric lol weh and life happened and I'm now doing a degree in Quantitative Management 😂😂. Thanks for the content Doc 🙏🏾
I just came from your other video with Mr Nkosi and I'm watching as a UCT ActSci prospect(just finished matric) but I'm afraid quite frankly of accepting the offer. Any advice? And how would one be able to request a mentorship from Mr Nkosi? Any help would be appreciated!
Hi Enhle. It is normal to be afraid. You probably have heard a lot of stories about the course which might be the reason you are afraid. You have to filter out those voices. Of course Actuarial Science is a challenging course but it doesn't mean it is not doable. If you are to take the course you have to build your confidence towards the course. I would say that if it is indeed what you really want to do, then go for it. If you still have doubts then that might be a sign that you must consider your other options. Also familiarize yourself on what an actuarial job entails to assess if you see yourself being in that profession. As a lecturer I have seen a lot of students pick up courses that they have no idea about and they only realize when it's too late that they don't like the profession associated with that course. Mdu is usually open to mentoring people who want to get into the actuarial profession. If you have a LinkedIn account you can connect with him there. Just search for Mduduzi Nkosi on LinkedIn.
😂😂 8:45 This is not true. If you're going to write your board exams with ASSA, you need MATHEMATICAL-STATISTICS module on the 2nd. Many computer science degrees don't have that. Your best bet is to actually do an Actuarial-Science, Quant, Fin Engineering, Stats-Degree. Infact, you can switch from Actuary to being a Developer/Data-Science, not the other way around. You may be an analyst, not a fellow. Unless, you can do the module for non-degree purposes, or write your board exams with IFOA or other boards.

Can I become an actuary with Bcom Economics and Econometrics (UJ)?
Yes, as long as the degree has mathematics. You can then follow the same route as Mdu, by writing the actuarial board exams.
Dr how can one approach Mr Nkosi to be their mentor?? I’m inspired
I will forward your comment to Mdu. It will be up to him.
@@benmahudu7431 thank you 🙏🏾
Can you please plug me too@@benmahudu7431
Hi , as someone with a Bsc in Economics and Finance and a diploma in Accounting; do you think doing a Msc in Actuarial would be a great career choice
I have a Bcom Accounting and have Supply Chain experience. But I desire to be an actuarial analyst . God help us my brother 🙏
I'm not sure. You can check with the institutions that you are interested in doing your MSc at.
😂😂

Check him on LinkedIn. It's easier that way.
Is 30 years of age too old to start with board exams ?
Not at all man. I’m working with people who are close to 40 that are still writing. Go for it man.
Could you please kindly be my mentor sir, i am currently working towards a degree in mathematical sciences
