  • We don’t need to feed the world, we need to get smarter about food. The Industrial food system built in the 60s and 70s has left us simultaneously fat and starving and it’s time for it to die. There’s an opportunity for smart young entrepreneurs to build a new smart food system that supplies the natural, local food people are demanding. Farmland is available, new technologies have created new possibilities and investors are flooding into the sector.
    Kimbal Musk is an investor, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and a chef. He is on the board for Tesla Motors, SpaceX, The Anschutz Health and Wellness Center and Chipotle Mexican Grill. His personal mission is to get communities rapidly thriving by improving every part of the food culture. Kimbal is a co-founder of The Kitchen, a growing family of restaurants that sources directly from local farmers, stimulating the local farm economy to the tune of millions of dollars a year, and creating quality jobs. In 2011, Kimbal co-founded The Kitchen Community, a complementary non-profit organization. The Kitchen Community has already built 225 Learning Gardens reaching over 135,000 students every school day, improving their vegetable intake and academic achievements. This is an amazing talk! In holistic farming, I do believe we are sort of in an era like the internet was maybe back in the early '70s where a few people were starting to realize we would one day have hand held portable devices.
    And I concur with Kimbal's analysis of the problems and the opportunities.
    What I see differently are the best solutions. Instead of billion dollar companies, why not empower the middle class and middle America through workers co-ops, and other hyper local collaborative farms and enterprises?
    And nice tillable farmland is fine, but the real value for holistic agriculture today is in marginal crop land, especially areas like the hill country of Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, and the great plains.

    • @yeboscrebo4451
      @yeboscrebo4451 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Because it's not really about empowering middle America. He wants to capitalize on this by starting another 10 billion dollar company. If everyone had productive, backyard permaculture gardens and were self-sufficient (which is completely do-able) there would be no need. The real agenda is to use technology to grow food artificially in warehouses and then team up with companies like Amazon to deliver the food. They want control over the food supply there's no doubt in my mind. Then there will be some concocted reason to squeeze out the few remaining farmers and they've got us. It's happened many times in history. Look what Stalin did to the farmers in Ukraine. This is a modern rehash of the same pattern. Grow your own real food in the real, natural environment. Learn permaculture, be self-reliant. It's the only way to save yourself from the wolves in sheeps clothing pretending they want to save the world

      @@yeboscrebo4451 People who work hard all day don`t want to come home and spend all their time raising a garden. That`s just a damn pipe dream. Some people would like to raise crops, and that`s fine but if Trump the Chump is going to send all Mexicans and central Americans home we`re going to have to raise crops hydroponically were people can work standing up.The only way most Americans will work.

    Finally someone taking this necessity for our planet, our lives, our soil, our air, everything and putting it on a world stage. This is the most important subject we can address as it will also drastically help with the climate issues. Everyone should watch “The Need to Grow” movie about a guy in Montana doing exactly what Kimble is referring to.
    Yes why only 53 comments? Every school teacher, every minister, Rabbi, priest, AEmom, etc. every one should get on board with this so people can live and thrive and recognize the dangers of seeing chemicals as the answer to our issues.

    I strongly disagree with Kimbal on ethanol. Not because he’s wrong about converting food to ethanol. Because there are ways of getting around using oil to produce ethanol. Because ethanol can be made with parts of a plant that nobody uses, the Cellulose. It is the most important fuel towards transitioning our cars from gasoline to electric, as it has the ability to power both.
    In addition, the COVID pandemic caused farmers to throw out their own crop because nobody came to buy it fast enough? What kind of person tells people that ethanol is a waste of money and then this happens; where we waste money anyway growing food fewer people could have ate anyway?

    We’ve all been so brainwashed though with food. It’s so chemically altered so when people eat real food, the taste is what turns them off. Even though it’s what our body really craves.

      Kimbal is on the board of space x, which is set to devastate the ionosphere, knowingly or unwittingly. This will discredit Elon but not before food is wiped out. Right now, Elon et al are considered saviors so any negative comments cannot be tolerated by those on the bandwagon. Look into The Invisible Rainbow by Arthur Firstenberg

    Lol he’s clearly just hurting after missing the Internet and now trying to come up with some pseudo-world-changing trend that clearly doesn’t exist.
    Don’t get me wrong, real food is most definitely a problem, but it’s not even close to the potential and world-changing affect that the Internet had.
    I respect all that Kimbal and his brother have done, but over-hyped, over-exaggerated claims like these just make people act irrationally and then they end up getting stung.
    Real food is legit, no doubt, but it will never be world-changing in the way the Internet was.
    The Internet disrupted every single industry on planet earth, real food will disrupt only one-itself.
