Update: It has been 4 years since I left that comment. I'm at my final semester in uni now and I graduate in about 3 weeks. I was just reminiscing about how clueless I was back when I started and now I'm all done. I recall this video was very informative for me back then, and now that I'm almost done, I can really appreciate how well of a job Devon does to capture the everyday life of CS student.
I finished my final Theory of Algorithms class last semester and am finally graduating in a month. It's crazy to me that I can actually understand everything you said about the convex hull problem when I've never actually done it myself. I feel accomplished with how much I've learned in the field. Good video bro 👍
I study CS in the UK and this makes my course look crazy easy (which it is!), a year in and all we've only really covered the basics of procedural and OOP, a bit of assembly, a bunch about relational databases and some web development. Hoping it gets a bit more exciting in my second year!
@@dc9591 Not really. Things ramped up a bit after first year, but it was still much easier than the stuff shown here. Obviously it also depends on the field you want to work in after and how much effort you put into learning outside of the course. I also found that after getting into a programming job I learned 10x more in my my first year working than I did my entire time in University.

At its absolute core, google maps just like many other gps services use variations of Dijkstra's algorithm for shortest paths. However, since map routing is a very complex process, multiple other algorithms (such as A* mentioned here for performance optimization) are used (I'm not sure if they've found a use for convex hull in map routing, but perhaps it could have something to do with geocoding?).

This is no where near being enough to get a software job, divide and conquer convex hull is a pretty straight forward and established problem. Not a whole lot to "design", more like implement.

Bruhh idk what school you are going to, but out here we learnt how to implement all the basic logic operations with an adder in 3rd year of highschool when learning the architecture of 8085. It was 5 classes per week starting from registers all the way up to connecting memory, IO ports, executing basic assembly commands, creating loops and statements (using jnz, jnc, jns, jz, jc, js) and much more.
I'm still a high schooler. I keep rewatching your videos as I live also in the GTA (no, not that one lol) and am considering going to University of Guelph for a software development course. Thank you for putting up these videos for me

Maybe try another language. Sometimes cs students get stucked and can't do well on a particular language (It happened to me) but with another languages you could do much better

Bruhh idk what school you are going to, but out here we learnt how to implement all the basic logic operations with an adder in 3rd year of highschool when learning the architecture of 8085. It was 5 classes per week starting from registers all the way up to connecting memory, IO ports, executing basic assembly commands, creating loops and statements (using jnz, jnc, jns, jz, jc, js) and much more.
