- Wanting to change your wipers on a Mercedes? Here's a hidden tip and trick to do just that!
On some older Mercedes models, this tip doesn't work so do this:
Engine on / Ignition on
Door open
Operate wipers like normal
When they are vertical, turn the engine / ignition off

Wow !! Perfect timing. I just changed the wiper blade for my wife’s A class today and was thinking how to do on my GLB.

Many thanks for this tip Nick. Following the owners manual 'to the letter' for this on my wife's 2023 face lifted A200 I was pulling my hair out because these instructions are INADEQUATE. What they fail to mention is that in order to work the drivers door must be open!! Who intentionally opens the door and then starts pressing window wiper buttons? Der....
No worries! It might sound silly but when you open the door, that’s the when the multimedia system and instrument cluster switch off. Either keep the door open while you do it or open it slightly 🤓
Nick, thank God you made this short: I’ve been trying everything I could think of (for months! 🥴) to get my wipers to stop on the screen and gave up. Phew! 🤝👍🏻

Yea that’s it, just pull a little more and it’ll go into the replacement position 🤓
It clicks into the replacement position as you lift it away from the window

Not only that you can change, you have to change them, especially for the A class, they will judder like crazy if you dont change them.
As per other comments the user manual is inadequate neglecting that the door must be open. I can also add if the bonnet has been popped open this this will not work as the wipers are disabled

Excuse me for my ignorance or misunderstanding, but I thought that moving the wipers into the service position - as you did in this video - has been quite common knowledge for any modern car for years
Think some cars have service mode for wipers but I made this video to showcase how to do it on Mercedes 🤓

This can happen and is normal, depends how cold you have your A/C and also how hot it is on the inside. I would imagine it probably has something to do with humidity as well, happens even more so in Florida!
Excellent, many thanks for all your videos and tips etc... they are extremely useful. I have just had a 1st service of my GLA and they wing mirrors have stopped going in / out automatically with opening and closing the doors with the key fob . I need to do it via the switch now on the drivers door panel. Perhaps you can help?

Can anyone explain the process of changing the rear wiper on a GLB. I’ve never been bamboozled by a wiper blade as much as I have that little beastie 🤨
Hey Graham, you simply fold the wiper arm away from the rear window until it engages in the replacement position 👍🏼
@@npoleary as you would with any other but I think this GLB is fighting back. Maybe I need to show it who’s boss. It seems to be at the moment 😁
2017 GLC 300 4Matic in Canada. This doesn't work for me. 😔
Hey Davin, for models prior to the ones in showrooms, do the same thing with the ignition on and door open. Operate the wiper and turn the ignition off when it’s near vertical 🤓

Hey Luis, not all Mercedes can do it (most modern ones can) but just in case yours doesn’t, have it in park, open your door, operate your wipers, then when they’re vertical, immediately switch it off.

Why not just turn the wipers on, and turn the ignition off whilst the wipers are up?
Older Mercedes you have to do that :)
But newer ones finish their wipe 👍🏼
So just grabbing both the wipers with engine off and moving them is wrong?
@@Palmiped09I wouldn’t suggest that. The wiper arm are on a spline shaft attached to the wiper motor that has no neutral position, and if your force the arm the splines with shear off leaving the wiper arm shaft smooth and there would be no way to make the arm stay tight on the shaft even with the nut tight... It would cause the wiper arm to move and hit and damage the A pillar, the bonnet and anything else the wiper arm comes in contact with. A costly adventure there…
It depends. On my mom's 2016 E400 and my 2017 GLC, it feels pretty easy to pull the wipers towards the A-pillar. If it doesn't feel exceptionally easy, I wouldn't force them, 'cause you can damage the system.
What you can do, and what I do - until I confirm this trick works on my '17 GLC - is turn the ignition off. If you are using the physical key, press the wiper button, and as it approaches the A-pillar, pull the key out. If you are using the Keyless Go button, turn the engine off, press the wiper button, and as it approaches the A-pillar, open the door. Either way, it should stall near max wipe. Whenever you turn the ignition back on, the wipers will park themselves. Just be sure to rest the wipers against the windshield, otherwise the arms contact the edge of the hood/bonnet and may damage the paint. Oops. 🙄
