Meeting The Most Viral Porcupine

Rico, the prehensile-tailed porcupine is the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's next social media star. He's almost as big as Fiona the hippo because of his adorable snacking videos on TikTok.
Rico, who was born at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and came to Cincinnati at 3 months old, has captivated the zoo's social media audience with his boop-able nose, love for snoozing and the adorable way he crunches on snacks. I was able to meet with his keeper Mark Muthersbaugh to learn more about the species, what it means to work with Rico and how important the animals at the zoo are.

My husband is Brasilian and for our honeymoon we spent a month traveling around the country after I got to meet his family. We spent time in the Amazon jungle and the Pantanal which are two very biologically diverse ecosystems with all manner of amazing creatures; avian, reptilian, mammalian, insecta, arachnid, fish and aquatic life, and all the amazing flora too. Even so, before your video I'd never heard of the Brazilian porcupine! What an amazing creature...and THAT NOSE! Forgive me, but I just want to pinch it it's so cute and squishy looking! Gently of course. 😂 Thanks so much for sharing this remarkable creature.
