Prehensile-Tailed Porcupines live throughout central and South America, making their lives in the canopy eating fruits, leaves, shoots, and other delicious vegetation. In the wild, they would not talk as much as Kemosabe, because they wouldn't want to call attention to themselves and Kemo is, apparently, more vocal than most captive porcs. But that is definitely our gain because I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.

The Dutch word for porcupine is stekelvarken, which literally translates to “stick pig”. It is my favorite Dutch word.
That’s what it means in every language I know. Porcupine means “spine pig” in latin.
In spanish is puercoespín. Literally means "spine-pig"

Kemo has been on my home screen for a few years now because he is exactly as weird and cute and unsettling as you say. The noises he makes are basically the best thing ever

Wait. No! You said that the porcupine quills evolved separately and function differently, but you didn't explain how! I need to know what are the different functions of the quills!
All of you who say that he is annoying and talk too much need to listen more, he is actually explaining about the animal and in which conditions it is living. I see many people judging that it should be free in the wild while not actually listening to the guy in front of you, plus all of what he is saying is extremely interesting and gives insight on the animal itself.

I have told so many people about Kemo's noises and how amazing they are, and repeatedly: they don't believe me, I pull up animal wonders montana, and they concede defeat. Kemo is doing amazing and is such a great ambassador for his species.

First Brazilian Porcupine I saw was about a week ago. His name is Rico from the Cincinnati Zoo and he was eating corn on the cob. They are the cutest animals and I think their nose looks like pink felt nice and soft.
I'm very glad that a video of this porcupine was immediately recommended to me by the youtube algorithm. Sometimes it does all right, I guess?

Where I live the North American porcupine is quite common, and they are not that rare to see in the wild because... well, porcupine don't care! Since their quills provide good protection they don't need to run away, they just waddle slowly away. But when they get into a tree they can really zoom with their curved feet and claws made for climbing!

Mine's light pink, the one on the left of the card it came with. If it's like last month's, the common one is on the left or the card, the uncommon one is on the right, and the rare isn't pictured (usually sparkly)

Hello, I am french and in the last quarter of 1980 I was in Salt lake City for a 3 months training. I took the opportunity to pass my driving licence. As I was working in afternoon shift my driving lessons were always at night time. And so one evening the coach decided to take us to a mountain road outside of the city. I was driving for a little while when in the car lights I spotted a huge porcupine on the side of the road foraging in the bushes. I had never seen one in real life, the road was deserted so I pulled over, stopped the engine and jumped outside to have a close look at the animal. The coach followed and yelled at me : why did you stopped here ? Me, with a huge smile on my face and showing the porcupine : look !!!! a porcupine ! !!! Him : and so what ??? Me : We don't have them in France, only hedgehogs. It is so cool.... Him : 😱😵
I admired the animal for a minute or 2, it couldn't careless about me btw 😊 , and came back to the car to continue the lesson.
There was 2 other young peoples in the car, they also never had a close encounter with a porcupine but they did not approached because they were scared.... 😕
After all this time it still remains a nice memory. 😁

OMG, I know Jessi! We went to school together. Also, I've worked with a few prehensile-tailed porcupines, and YES. Their sounds are just about the cutest thing ever. They're nocturnal, so if you wake them up in the day they make those cute annoyed sounds like "nooo, i was sleeeeeeping, leave me alooooone." One of my favorite animals to work with.
Oh gosh I love that big guy so much. Also I didn't think the well-timed Yoshi noise would be the thing that made me smile the most in this video, but here we are!
