I agree fit is important but I also want to be able to layer with my coat and put a jumper underneath without fearing I'd rip my coat. I suppose a bigger size will do for me better. A coat is not a blazer!
Your coats are beautiful, but you didn’t discuss fit. You need to remember that a coat will be worn over other clothes, typically bulkier clothes, and your coat should never be so slim that it pulls anywhere. If there’s a vent in the back, it should be completely closed at all times unless you are walking. If it pulls open, the coat is too small. The vent isn’t there to give you extra room so you can wear a smaller size. Likewise, if the seams pull anywhere, even a little bit, the coat is too small. The fit around the bust is important. If you are wearing a button style coat, the buttons must lie flat, and the front of the coat also has to lie flat. If it pulls open, it’s too small. I am so tired of seeing women squeeze into a coat that’s clearly too small and thinking they look chic. It doesn’t. It looks like you were forced to get anything in reach at the thrift store no matter what it looks like. There’s nothing wrong with leaving some room in the coat to accommodate heavy clothes.
100% agreed! Especially in the shoulders. There should be no bulge at the top side of the shoulders. If there is the coat is too small, and coats are expensive and often difficult to tailor. It's best to size up.
Great tips. I have to admit I look at how warm the coat will be first. I want style, but style doesn't help if the coat is thin. . Once I move to a bit warmer climate style will probably move up to the #1 spot. Thank you, Amie.
*My Burberry trench coat is my go to for LA winters.* 🧥 The large pockets, neutral color, and lightweight fabric makes it a perfect coat for warmer winters 😍
You are very very helpful! It's said that there are some youtubers that are just showy of their brands or anything, but you, you really care to share important tips and information!! I feel your thoughts for the audience. Thank you again and God bless!
On online website they never write the arm length of the coats. It just does not enter their mind that this one of the most important pieces of information they need to give about the coat
This was a really clear, detailed and thorough review of many coat styles. Thank you!! I've been giving myself a headache for the past few weeks, trying to find that perfect coat. I've tried many, including Whistles, All Saints, Reiss, even Zara. I wanted a wool blend, and as I'm petite, a petite fitting. These fashion designers seem to think all women are 6 feet tall and a size 8 (that isn't REALITY!). I'm 5.3 and about 130llbs (as I'm quite toned/muscley). All the said brands I had tried, swamped me. One looked like I was wearing my husbands coat, and the others looked like I had my dressing gown on. I don't want one with a belt. Personally, I find belts can look messy, dressing gown like, and can be annoying. Most of the coats I've tried, fall on my calves and that's too long. The Reiss one, I loved, (trying it on whilst in London recently) yet there was too much material around the bust area, and (as always) it was too long. The All Saints one was lovely and had the right shoulders, but there was too much bagging around the mid back, and it was a bit long. But, this was a size 6, and they dont make a 4! The Whistles one was a size S and oversized, and although I loved it, and the lady on that department told me it looked perfect on me, I disagreed. I also had 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinions (all agreed with me, that it wasn't right). The main issue was the shoulders. There was no structure, padding, or stitching, so it made me look hunched. The arms also came over my hands to a degree. Although the pockets and the shoulders were in the right place. However, It just didn't work on me. Zara was X Small and looked good (oversized, yet still fairly fitted). Only, it was too big and had the same shoulders as the Whistles one. The good thing was, it was only £69.99. Yet, 100% polyester! I finally found a Reiss Petite size 10, and this is perfect on me. It snugs and fits in all the right ways. It's highly flattering and a stunning cut. It's the perfect one yet, and I'm very taken with it. It's the perfect length on me, being petite. It hits just below the knee and has a flattering vent at the back. It's double-breasted, and it has a funnel neckline. I wouldn't get a bulky jumper underneath, but that's okay as I dont like to be all bundled up with my mohairs and a coat. I tend to wear fine knits. I can always take a mohair to work separately. The Reiss Maude coat is wool blend and £338. It's certainly an investment yet I don't think I'm going to find a better coat. It's a straight 8/10 for me , and my husband agrees ❤ I'd like to hear your views on this coat, as I'm quite a novice and im not sure if a coat should be too fitted, despite me having a little room in it. I have room to wear a cotton cami and a medium weight cardigan. I would think if I gained a few pounds, I wouldn't do it up, but if I did, it would be tight. But it looks very flattering and has slim arms yet room in the arms still. Thank you in advance. I don't think I'll be allowed to link the coat here, but it's the Reiss Maude Coat, in black. They also do it in camel. I love all your coats on you, by the way ❤ Thoughts please ☺️ 🥼🛍
I have this very long open grey coat that i wear with ripped jeans and for whatever reason, it looks really good mixed with casual stuff and not just with formal
I always enjoy watching your videos. You are so eloquent in your delivery. All of your videos are so informative and entertaining to watch. Thank you for the tips on coats. Looking forward to the next video.
Great commentary...not too much conversation (while showing styles) yet just enough meaningful verbiage to adequately address the subject matter. I will watch again!
I'm petit and always have been, but I've recently gone from a UK size 10 to a size 8, nothing dramatic, but my oversized coat I've loved for many years suddenly drowns me so I've been on the hunt for a new one. Goodness me its hard work! Everything I like just consumes my frame and looks like I'm borrowing my mums clothes. I've never had such a problem buying an item of clothing before BUT this video was so helpful and has streamlined my search scope.
@dzlove it's so easy to say genetics but when you actually try to reduce your portions and stick to it .. you can maintain for 8 years or more .. most of my family is heavy built apart from me and my my mom and im 24 and shes double my age .. since 14 we've been able to share clothes and it all lies in portions you cannot eat food with your eyes it needs to be the size of your stomach or the stomach you're trying to achieve at every single portion therefore small portions 3 4 times a day and watch your body reducing ...
Thank you! I appreciate the tips of coat care and of choosing fit and form for primarily one's figure and stature. Choosing carefully and caring for your purchase will bring years of wearing the item ❤ xoxo thank you 🇨🇦
Love all your tips! Super tempted to buy a cocoon ooat as they're everywhere I look right now, but good reminder that they're probably not going to be flattering on my 5'3" middle aged figure ahem. One tip I didn't hear you mention, and I see this as a bit of a travesty, is leaving the maker label on the sleeve. I feel like running up to these (mostly young so obviously not practiced) coat wearers who sport the label on the sleeves, with a pair of snips or thread cutter to remove the labels off them. Also, forgetting to remove the stitches that hold the pockets or vent together Lol
OMG thank you for this video! Well thought-out and I love the editing in this one! Please, please do a coat collection - I would love to hear your thoughts on your various styles.
Love that last camel coat! Thanks this video is a good place to point me in the right direction. I LOVEEEE coats! I wish I wasn’t so petite so I could just live in wrap floor length coats 😂🙌🏽
You can definitely do long coats as a petite person! It's harder to style, and not as easy to find or wear as shorter styles, but doable. As someone who's around 5'1"/ 5'2", I do the trick she mentioned of going a size down for less structured coats, and also finding ones specifically cut for petites as how it's cut is made for a shorter frame (especially important with more structured coats). If you want a lengthening effect, add in a pair of heels/ heeled boots. You can also belt the coat at the waist which creates a nice silhouette that doesn't make the coat overwhelm the frame. And also look for coats that don't have huge collars or lapels as I find it's those which make it look more awkward rather than the length. And you should also make sure that the sleeves are the proper length and are right below the wrist.
Thanks for making this video. I am abroad and looking to buy a coat for missus. Even though I haven't been able to find one yet but now I understand and know more what to look for in it.
One of your best videos all year Amie! So informative will definitely be referring back to this video when im choosing between the coats im buying this year xx
Could you please add a link for your sweater shaver or provide the name? I've not yet found one that works well and would live a recommendation. Thank you. 😊
Thank you for this. I have has the same ck pea coat for 15 years and after 3 kids its too small in the chest now so I have been seriously shopping for a new coat.
I love Chase Amie! She hits all the points/views/tips that I crave to see from TH-camrs. Actually, Amie is part of the reason why I was inspired to start my own channel and I just uploaded my first video last week!!
You know you had a super good video when people copy it and do it well as well. Its a good idea I like it I can get more of them if more people do them yay
WOW. I just found this video and it is just so great! Thank you for making this video and doing such a great job explaining your thoughts and tips on coats. Do you have any similar videos on other topics? I will definitely be saving this for future reference.
You must have read my mind, I was recently looking for a simple black wool coat which is not too long but so far I couldn't find what I was looking for. But with your tips I hope I will find the perfect one for me :)
I really liked this video and it was very helpful. I am so happy you talked about the sweater shaver. I decided to order one because I have a black coat that I need to use it on. I hope it will make a difference and help. Thanks for the tip :) btw you have some Beautiful coats :)
Living in Bahrain (Arabian Gulf) where winter is very short and not that cold, it's really sad that I don't get the opportunity to experiment with coats and jackets. Anyway, great video and I will take these advices into consideration when getting a new coat for our so called winter 😁
I love all your style coat. Seriusly so stylish. I want buy atleast 1 coat like you. 💗😘. I love coat / blazer / cardigan too. Yesterday done upload video's blazers and cardigan from ASOS in my channel.. I love your medium long coat color brown and navy single button. But on your link on description i can't find them. Hope the price reasonable.

Valid point! Take into account that most of of the jackets fit a more professional look so clothes tend to be on the thinner side. ..
Thank you!!
Hi, My name Is Karina, I wish you could explain more about this, I have a hard time finding a coat for me. Like the bust tip.
100% agreed! Especially in the shoulders. There should be no bulge at the top side of the shoulders. If there is the coat is too small, and coats are expensive and often difficult to tailor. It's best to size up.
!
That camel colored coat is PERFECT
It’s definitely a tough decision between a oversized long coat vs a medium length coat. This video is so helpful. Thanks for sharing your tips!

My problem is the arms are usually too tight but when I size up the coat is too big
sunnysideup better off going for a larger size, looking like a stuffed turkey if you need to wear a jumper isn’t a good look
Thats a shitty coat it shows the quality is bad
Ugh. Same.
I have this very long open grey coat that i wear with ripped jeans and for whatever reason, it looks really good mixed with casual stuff and not just with formal

Incredible video! Very good quality and well edited!
And you look sooo sophisticated in all of the coats! 😍😍
This is why I love your channel. You genuinely give the best advise and keep things real.
The real question is how to maintain your beautiful figure for 8 years
Lol yep😅
8yrs?seriously 8?
Being lucky I guess, I definitely don’t eat healthy but I never get any thicker.

Really helpful to see coats on with flat shoes. Not everyone wants to wear heels!
Best video about coats I’ve seen debobler sounds funny but I didn’t know things to care for ur coat existed thanks

I learn a lot so thank you for sharing. What about puffer jacket, big jacket fitting?
Great video I never knew I was buying my coats wrong! Thanks Amie
I live in Alaska and it’s important to buy a coat that allows for layering. If you wear a suit blazer underneath, you need to size up.
Great tips! It's a pity i don't need coats in Singapore. Only when i travel to winter countries.
I really liked this video and it was very helpful. I am so happy you talked about the sweater shaver. I decided to order one because I have a black coat that I need to use it on. I hope it will make a difference and help. Thanks for the tip :) btw you have some

Wow, what a great video! Informative and very pleasing to the eye :) great job, Amie!
I recomment looking into Kibbe bodytypes for chosing the best style for your bodytype
Omg! I was planning to get a coat and thank god you explain these! Thank you for the great informations!
This was such a helpful video! 😀
I live in a tropical country but I feel like I need to watch this if ever I'll go on a winter vacation. (So basically I have no idea what to look for in a coat, thanks for this video!) BTW, i super love your hair. Do you have a tutorial for that?
👍👍👍really like this video, i can see, colours, how it looks, thanks😙
I buy pure cashmere pullovers, but coats as mix. They are good looking, but in thrift shops you get under 75€ coats who look like over 200€ ones in cleat cut, warm and elegant quality and you feel more self cared. Actually wool mix with polyamide or cashmere is versatile, warm, but elegant and not sweaty nor itchy or cheap looking. And they are pricier
Beautiful coats, that will be lovely to know were did U buy it?
Your camel coat looks so great! The Reiss one is very nice too, it’s a much better deal getting it in the UK than in the US
Great video! All of your coats look amazing. I am definitely investing in a new coat this year!
Great video! Really nice coat collection
Really loved this video! So many helpful tips.
loved all coats
Love the camel colored coat. Thanks!
Hi Amie, could u do another video on how to choose the rights boots since there are so many types out there...calf boots, knee boots etc.
Hi Amie! any recommendations for debobblers?
I recently found a very pretty trench coat, it fit me perfectly and it looked amazing. But it had 55% wool. My skin can’t handle that, I had red bumpd on my neck instantly. I’m so sad about this, because the coat was gorgeous😔
My coat has 70% wool, 20% polyamide and 10% cashmere. Trick? Inlining polyester and this mix takes itchy feeling away from the body.
Beautiful coats! Thank you for the tips 👏🏻
I pick a designer that tends to compliment my figure..I've always do well with Ralph Lauren just one of my favorite designers.
You always have great quality videos!! Thank you for sharing your great tips!!👍🏼💕 You look amazing in all your coats!!🤗 Any recommendations on a good fabric shaver?
This was so helpful and well-done! Thank you!
