    Got mine, and its awesome. The note clarity and huge output make it unique among TS type pedals. As a high gain booster its not as tight as a TS or SD-1 but to my ear it creates some space between the notes and the fuzz, as well as blends in some interesting textures and harmonics for a more "3D" tone. It also changes the feel quite a bit, less sag and more punch maybe. Thanks for the demo!

    Along the lines of the SD-1, the MXR Custom Badass Modified O.D. was recommended to me to fix the shortcomings of the SD-1. It retained more low end and has some other sonic options (mid bump, 100Hz control).

      Lol...the same thing happen to me. I was missing bottom end with my sd-1 for many years. So i talked about it on a bunch of comment sections. It was recommended to me the MXR, by Kyle Bull, to fix my problem. Definitely has some low end adjustment to it. I love it. But still at 95% of where i needed to be. It was missing something, just didn't know what...lol. So someone recommended the Boss sd-1w. Waza Craft version..........um......HELL YEAH!!!!. problem solved. A boss sd-1 WITH bottom end and more gain on tap if you want it, and less noise, and made in Japan, not Taiwan.......done!!!🤣🤟🤟🤟🤟🍻🍻

    The Plumes covers a bit more ground and personally I prefer it or the SD-1, but the Boss is classic, like Tim said, it's a familiar tone. Can't go wrong with either one, it's short money to add big tone.

  • @AndyK.23
    @AndyK.23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool demo, and happy birthday! I think the SD-1 is tighter sounding - perfect for most driven JCM 800 2203's, or modded Plexis - but maybe a little too thin for the DSL20. So I guess the Plumes is better for more modern Marshalls, and the SD-1 for the older, "flubbier" Marshalls.

  • @Brankas

    The sd-1 has a "meaner", rebel feel I can't explain, and it cuts through so much better. Best cheap pedal ever.

    I thought the Plumes in mode 3 was really similar to the Boss, but with just a little something extra. The other modes I think added some extra frequencys and didnt sound as tight, depending on the amp and type of music that could be a plus. I'm going to demo one next week, looking for something that I can use to tighten up a looser classic tone for busy single note riffage.

    I use a basic mxr classic od when I want to give my dsl some grind but my favorite pedal for just giving any of my amps a shove is the CAE line driver. It doesn't color the tone of the amp, it just gives it teeth. But I see that fryette power station sitting in the back there, you should do a video about that. Those are a killer piece of gear that flies under the radar.

    The SD-1 is a classic, but man, I really love the Plumes. The tone control on the Plumes has a great range. I like using the Plumes with my Revv Generator 120 when I’m playing my main 7 string to cut off a little bit of the muddy low end, since that guitar’s pickups (DiMarzio PAF 7s) are pretty low output. I could swap them out for something more modern and tight to where I don’t need a boost for high gain tones, but the PAF 7s sound so great for clean and low gain stuff.

    Honestly, not watching to see which pedal is on at what time and only listening revealed how very little the differences are in any meaningful capacity between the two. The minor differences would be significantly masked in a full mix from what I am hearing. Maybe the differences can be heard in the room but online it is not apparent enough in a blind test to where I would feel any need to get a Plumes. Even the SD1 is kinda beyond its value at this point considering you can get a TS9 clone for like $15-20 all day long and it "does the thing" just fine.

  • @poseidon5003
    @poseidon5003 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are neither wrong OR right. It all depends on which tone your brain (soul) likes the most. I'm all about the Boss SD-1. I didn't choose the tone. It chose me.

  • @cyface
    @cyface 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Happy Birthday, chi-master! I think the Plumes has a much broader tone, more full range and high-def, less fizzy and scooped, but the classic sound of the SD-1 is just so immediately familiar. I think the Plumes has slight more treble frequencies to add than the Boss. They're very similar though. The only factor in choosing one or the other is your starting rig and the features it has.
    By the way, nice touch putting some Megadeth riffs here and there!

  • @phantasmagora6542
    @phantasmagora6542 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I own both. SD-1 is tighter and pushes the high mids and is better as a tone-shaper IMO. The Plumes is more full-range despite being marketed as a TS-style pedal i.e. it doesn't shave off bass as severely or add as much mids, but it adds a ton of treble and noise which isn't optimal for what you're doing in this video. The SD-1 has the edge for tight, chugging riffs. Plumes would be better for doom-oriented styles where fuzz pedals through high-headroom amps are the norm.

    For me, the difference is pretty subtle. To be fair, being in the room probably does the difference WAY more justice. With the disclaimer out of the way, in my current stage of beginner status, I prefer simplicity and budget over a slight adjustability advantage and double the price. Adjustability only frustrates me. Last, a subtle tone difference doesn't justify double the price. Therefore, BOSS SD-1 for the win.

    • @shredaintdead9323
      @shredaintdead9323  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shredaintdead9323 When you did the in-person demo of all of my pedals via the BBE Sonic Stomp, the Ethereal Reverb/Delay, and the BOSS SD-1, it was way more impactful. For me, it's more of a budget thing because I'm not an avid guitarist (yet), but I'm sure the Plumes shines more in-person just as all of these pedals do. An iPad and a MacBook can only emulate the second-hand sounds being mic'd so much. Everyone should demo gear they're thinking of buying in-person; it's night-and-day.

    I bought one, it’s a noisy pedal man. I also own the Behringer TO800 which I bought for $15 and got similar results from it. The tone knob for the Plumes goes higher but it easily gets too harsh after you go past 12 a clock. I didn’t want to believe it but the Behringer sounds almost the same but somehow a little more chuggier, makes less noise and the price is $70 cheaper than the plumes. I’m thinking about returning it but I’m going to try it on a different amp. If it’s not good on my 5150 then I’ll return it and get a different overdrive. The Plumes also makes a huge popping sound when it’s turned on.
